What is a digipak?

A digipak is a patented style of CD packaging, where the traditional plastic casing is replaced with a cardboard sleeve which opens up like a book or open up in several directions to reveal the CD, which is attached like the jewel CD which is attached to the packaging. It is made out of card stock or another type of reliable material which is like cardboard or paper. Digipaks were originally designed to give CDs a more visual and creative effect where they could be seen as art rather than just a CD case. As there are less CDs being sold because of digital downloads digipaks are a way of attracting customers to buy the product as a collectible. Many labels, bands and artists are choosing to create digipaks for aesthetic reasons. The 3 fold digipaks are most popular as there are more artistic options with more space for design, although they are more costly than the traditional jewel cases. One advantage of the digipak is that they do not crack like jewel cases but are less resistant to everyday use so are quite delicate in that respect. Digipaks are also more environmentally friendly that jewel cases as they can be made of recycled paper, although not all are made with the environment in mind. A disadvantage would be that if the plastic teeth holding the CD breaks then its likely the CD will fall out as most digipaks have nothing to hold the CD from underneath unlike jewel cases. Analysis of Existing Digipaks Deadmau5 > album title goes here < This digipak was unique as it has an effect on the front cover where you can see deadmau5s cat Meowingtons inside the mau5head with his left ear appearing out of the mask from a certain angle but when looking from another angle it shows the mau5head in full. The back cover is a simple design with a large barcode being incorporated into the design. The text is white on a black / old photography styled background. There is also more text at the bottom displaying the website, logos and copyright information.

Analysis of Pendulums Immersion

This package contains: CD Tshirt Vinyl of the album Flag Poster Postcards Flag

The colour scheme for this digipak is typically black, blue and white, which represents the underwater / ocean theme well. The only item included in the digipak without the blue is the flag, which contains the logo previously seen on the In Silico and Live At Brixton Academy album covers.

The back of the actual CD cover and vinyl contains another dark image shot from underwater, carrying on with the theme where a red/pink colour is shown. The T-shirt continues with this theme too, displaying an image of a blue / white jellyfish on a black background as well as the word Pendulum written in the same font as the album cover on the upper back. The vinyl contains the album cover back and front except obviously on a bigger scale, there are two sleeves for the two vinyls inside too, which are also a dull blue colour, again, continuing with the theme. They also included a festival flag in the pack, this was a plain black and white with their logo on it to take to festivals or display wherever you wanted. There was also a poster of the album cover and postcards with album related images as well as pictures of the band.
