Overcoming Limiting beliefs

Design web - limits

In order to design how to overcome my personal limiting beliefs & how to replace them with empowering supporting new beliefs I have had to observe them successfully. This has involved creating a table, as seen below. For this I have also used resources about NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming. NLP groups Limiting Beliefs into three categories: Hopelessness: My goal cannot be achieved under any circumstances. Helplessness: My goal can be achieved, but I lack the ability to achieve it. Worthlessness: I dont deserve to achieve this goal, because of something I am/am not or have/have not done. NLP Practicioners recommend these steps to overcome: 1. Become aware & uncover them & their roots 2. Analyize them for their purpose e.g. ask yourself, How does holding this belief serve my best interest? With this analysis we can then develop ways of best overcoming them. A number of tools are available including: finding evidence & role models, symbols & rituals, self talk & affirmations & finding behaviours, activities or actions that could strengthen them. Table: Identifying Patterns of Limiting Beliefs Life Area Pattern of Limiting Beliefs Scarcity, negative views of wealth & rich people, frugality is honourable Jobs mean you have sold out on radical roots. All relationships end. Fairytales dont exist. Only vein people become fitness freaks/have time End up doing everything. Small group of us are only ones that care or are active. Creative people are airyfairy and dont get things done Showing emotion = weakness Dont deserve to be happy when the world is so fucked up University is for posh, privelaged kids Attractive people are stupid/ditzy/not taken seriously or super vein/have too much time Succesful people are ruthless & are cutthroat to be that way, harming others. Success = selfishness Potential Root Purpose of belief Strategies to Re-design Questions to Identify Limiting Beliefs 1. What rules have I created in my life that could be limiting my ability to get started with my goal? 2. What pessimistic thoughts reoccur in my head ever time I think about pursuing this dream? 3. What unnecessary assumptions do I make about achieving and committing to this goal? 4. What cliches, quotes, aphorisms or other catchy phrases do I entertain in my head that are limiting me? 5. What stereotypical beliefs or cultural myths am I allowing to hold me back? 6. How might my standards about what and how things should happen, be negatively affecting my ability to go with the flow and to make things happen? 7. Are there any values that Im holding onto that interfere with me achieving this goal? Do I value something that contradicts what I want to move toward? 8. What self-defeating meanings have I created based on my past failures with important goals? How do these meanings limit me and become barriers to goal setting? 9. What reoccurring stories, narrative, or mental scripts do I play over and over again in my head that disempower me? 10. Do I hold onto any black and white philosophies that keep me frozen in a passive way? Overcoming limiting beliefs requires that find and create new, empowering beliefs.
