Wide Bay Short Course Championships

4-5 August
Mountain Creek Mooloolaba swim club helped host the 2012 Wide Bay SC Championships at the Mountain Creek Aquatic Centre between 4-5 August. Our club swimmers did very well; they swam some fantastic times and managed to do some awesome PBs. We are very proud of the kids and the work they do. Our parents also assisted with the ofciating, BBQ, set up of the meet, as well as pack up. Our BBQ did very well, with the bacon and egg burgers and the Mighty Mako burger being delicious and lling people up. In fact, they were so good we sold out! Thank you must go to Michael and Genevieve King for allowing us to use the complex, as well as to all the parents that helped over the 2 days of competition, and of course our coaches Barry Kime and Michael Gibson who were sensational over the 2 days. Medal tally: 27 gold 9 silver 9 bronze Our club came 3rd overall. Results are available on our website. We are now looking forward to our meet in February to be held at the same complex!

JUNIOR PAN PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIPS

23-27 August
Congratulations to Kareena Lee who competed at the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Championships between 23 and 27 August in the beautiful tropics of Hawaii. Kareena represented Australia (and Mt Creek Makos) and did us all very proud. She competed in the following events with great results: Women 800m Free - 7th Women 400m Free - 5th (in B final) Women 1500m Free - 5th (a massive near 20 sec PB!) Women 10k Open Water - 5th (first time swimming the 10k race!)

In the team rankings Australia finished second behind the US. What a fantastic performance, racing against some of the best up and coming swimmers in the world!

Keep an eye on Kareena as a star of the future. Her next venture is the Australian Short Course Championships in Perth in September.
