ORGANISATION: Using a 40x40yrd grid arrange2 teams of 8vs8. Place 4 players from one team in the centre and 4 players from the other team on the outside of the grid as supporting players (one on each side of the grid).A supply of balls should be left close to the grid to ensure quick restarts. INSTRUCTIONS: * The attacking team aims to maintain possession of the ball. * The team in possession can use the outside players to help maintain possession, essentially making it a 8vs4 game. * When the outside players are played in (passed to) they switch position with the player who just passed the ball. They enter the field, and the passer take their place as a support player on the side. * Side supporters can move up and down the sides and the other supporting players cannot tackle them or obstruct them in any way. * Players should exchange the balls and switch over quickly. 1) 2) 3) 4) A1 passes to A2 on the side. A1 takes the place of A2. A2 passes to A3. (A2 could also have dribbled into the grid ifthis is not acondition). A2 enters the field.

A3 passes to A4. 5) A4 passes to A5 6) A5 passes to A6. 7) A5 switches with A6 on the side. 8) A6 enters the field of play and the game continues. 9) SCORING: * Identify a specific number of consecutive passes the attacking team needs to complete before a point is scored (for example; 10). * More advanced version is to have a team score a point when they have kept possession whilst passing to all 4 support players on the outside of the grid. KEY COACHING POINTS: 1) First touch from the outside players should be inside and away from pressure. 2) Look for quick combinations with players. 3) Keep the ball speed high (pass the ball quickly with limited touches). 4) Players without the ball must move along the lines to create good passing angles. 5) Move to good angles as the ball is in motion, not after the the passer has received the ball. 6) Players who pass the ball should move immediately afterwards to take up good positions to support. 7) Ensure passes to fellow attackers are such that they can be controlled to their advantage (infront, good weight of pass, on ground, receiving open to the field). PROGRESSIONS: 1) 2 touch maximum by the attacking players. VARIATIONS: 1) The outside players only have 2 touches when entering the grid (as they enter). NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS: This game is good to work possession and speed of play. The ball has to be played fast and the players have to make quick decisions. Diagrams were generated using Easy Graphics.
