In a small apartment in Spring Valley, San Diego California I was five years old when I had what I now know as an Angel visitation. I was sleeping in my bed and awoke to unfamiliar site. Out of my peripheral vision, I saw two Angels; they were massive in size and much larger than an ordinary man maybe about 8 feet tall. I could only make out muted facial features but I know they were watching me. The wings on the Angels were visually clearer but the bodies were dense but appeared to have gowns on. The wings at the top were very thick then thinned and feathered out as they reach the ground but also faded in the darkness. Although I could not completely make out what the hair and face looked like, I knew they were male. Their brightness was resonating around the Angels almost like a shield and lit up my bedrooms greenish walls. They appeared to generate their own light. Both Angels were next to me on the side of the bed, delicately watching me. One of the Angels was standing up with his wrist crossed and his head slightly to the right, the other was sitting on the arm of a recliner and had his legs and arms crossed. There was not a sound in the room, the Angels didnt talk or make any movements. Continued on page 10...

Why did you become a Paranormal Investigator? I took the non-traditional route as my journey doesnt start with a ghost story or personal experience. My friend from college was starting an e-series called Resident Undead and I had seen some of his videos on Youtube. I found it interesting, but came aboard to help him with creative development and branding since my professional background is in communications and marketing. To get a feel for what paranormal investigating was all about I accompanied him as the official second member of Resident Undead to the Villisca Axe Murder House in Villisca, Iowa and became intrigued after capturing an EVP of little girls laughing at a prank he pulled on me. For me, the paranormal investigator title doesnt fit me as much as urban explorer, just because my true passion is visiting these iconic locations and wiretapping the past through ripples in time.

The Ripple in Time technique seems to be very effective, how did you develop this? Heres the thing, there are so many groups out there and so many shows that seem to have a formula, which is fine since everybody has their own preferences. My main concern was the fact that spirits did not have any sort of incentive to interact with the teams. I mean when Im dead, I know that after the first 50 teams coming through wherever death takes me, I would not even respond if they were yelling at me or holding Mel meters, in the midst of investigating the paranormal, I really thought we had forgotten these spirits are what I believe to be intelligent beings. I believed that we needed to show them respect and one of the reasons I do not like the term hunter, so what could we do differently? I remember one day I was watching my Quantum Leap and thought to myself, what if a team went into a location dressed up in the time period that the location was used for, essentially going undercover with the dead. Now, I didnt invent time period reenactments, I mean whoever created Halloween probably has that dubious title, but thats where the second aspect of the ripple in time came into play. One of my favorite movies is the Butterfly Effect and I thought that what would make somebody want to speak more than seeing a significant life event portrayed incorrectly. By going into a location in time specific clothing and playing out an alternate reality, I truly believed that we could stimulate the past into going on record and the results have been phenomenal so far. the strategy is different and I think people may be confused at first on why we are purposely changing the ending, but I truly believe this strategy is extremely innovative and effective. So the ripple in time was a development based on thinking outside the box and providing a reason for the dead to speak up. Whats the main message you want to get across to others in the field? My main message is that this whole paranormal field, its not as weird as people would have you think. Its funny how many people give you that crazy look, but take time to share a story with you, this is real and common. I also want people to know its okay to think outside the box, there is no paranormal investigating 101. Also, I really want people to understand that we are dealing with the unknown, I have met so many people with set rules of investigating and what death is, quite frankly nobody knows what Tel: 555 555 5555 is going on completely and you cant place rules on intangibles, so there is no wrong or right way to investigate. the Mobile: I believe in only rule 555-555-5555 is respecting the property you are at, there is never a reason to leave a place with trash laying Fax: or hurt a around555 555 5555property. You can find some of the best equipment at reasonable prices and we are proud that our show doesnt push specific brands or new tools, your strategy is yours, not played out on television. You must be very proud to be broadcasting the show Haunted Encounters: Face to Face, has being on television changed you in anyway? Haunted Encounters: Face to Face is not my first time in television, but being a full series I think it has really made me appreciate the opportunities provided and just be grateful for everything that I have earned. If anything, the whole adventure is unreal and I am still taking it all in, Im humbled by the opportunity and just happy to have the support of a great team and crew.

Why did you become a Paranormal Investigator? I decided to get into the paranormal after a number of experiences. Growing up in WV, there are so many ghost stories and local legends about my state. Ever since I can remember, I was fascinated by these stories. Also, I grew up about an hour away from the old WV state penitentiary and 20 minutes from the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. When I was about 8 years old, I saw a man dressed in a military uniform in the window of a house that has ties to the Civil War and a murder that occurred on the property. After losing my brother in 2009, I decided I actively wanted to pursue the paranormal and find out what happens to us when we die.

As case manager, do you feel you have an overwhelming responsibility? As case manager, I have a great responsibility figuring out the history of these locations. Even though it is hard work sometimes, I love digging deeper into historical events and finding more information and sometimes, untold stories. Has being on Television changed you in anyway? Television has not changed me in any way. I am still the same down-toearth, crazy Jordan. When we watch the show your passion and enthusiasm comes through, where does that passion come from? My passion comes from a genuine interest in why I am even in the paranormal at all. I decided to actively pursue the dead after my brother passed away in 2009. Communicating and interacting with the dead has proven to me there is life after death, and gives me hope I will one day see my brother again. Also, every single one of us gave up a lot to pursue our passion. We realize how lucky we are to be able to take what we have always been doing in the paranormal to a national level. It is very humbling. We all want to convey to people that we genuinely love what we do and are very blessed. What do you think makes this show different? This show is so different than anything else out there because of all the different elements we bring. We have a dog, a psychic, ripples in time, Pandora, quarantines and it sounds like a threering circus at first, but the way we work, everything has a purpose to elicit the best responses. We have a lot of new ideas to put our there and we arent afraid to try new things. Where do you see yourself in a few years? Honestly, I have no idea. If you asked me a year ago where I thought I would be, saying chasing the dead on TV would probably not be my first answer. Tell us about Nurse Jordan, Daniel has said this character is an icon in the community, tell us about who Nurse Jordan is? Nurse Jordan 5555 Tel: 555 555 officially fully surfaced at Pennhurst State School when Daniel and I were still filming our web series. The Mobile: 555-555-5555 most powerful ripple in time happened when I had an old creepy nurse uniform on and Daniel was a patient lying in a cribFax: 555was 5555 and I 555 beating him and yelling at him. The raw footage was terrifying to watch. From that point on, Nurse JorE-mail: someone@example.com dan became a staple for us. She makes an appearance at the Eastern State Penitentiary episode while removing Daniels ribs. Is there a message you would like to share with future paranormal Investigators? Dont be afraid to try new things. People will mock you and try to discourage you if they see you doing something a little different. Were dealing with the unknown; there are no rules or guidelines. Is there something you would like the audience to know about you? Im extremely thankful and blessed to have this amazing opportunity. The paranormal isnt just a hobby for us; its a passion. Im just a normal 23-year old thats living her dream.

Who is the Paranormal Linebacker? That would be me. I was a leading a group on public hunt fundraiser for the particular venue and someone in the group I was leading popped off with Helmey is like a Paranormal Linebacker, the dude is big and just goes anywhere without thinking twice. I took the backhanded compliment without incident and the name stuck. Tell us about the Paranormal Syndicate and how you think this team is different? The Syndicate is a team of people I handpicked to create a dynamic unlike any before in an attempt to become as effective as possible and achieve the best possible results. Our very unique methodology includes the paraHelmey Kramer normal fields first ever trained K9 investigator, the innovative technique of incorporating documented and relevant historical events into reenactments. These reenactments knows as the Ripple in time include and real time EVP session and often times deviate from the known result which has proven very effective in soliciting interaction with resident spirits. We also include a psychic investigator that can give us an advantage in letting us know of possible spirit activity throughout the location to ensure we are as effective as possible. As tech specialist, you know that technology has advanced the paranormal field; do you think that investigators should rely on technology alone? Not at all. I feel that methodology, observation, research, and technique are every bit if not more important than tech used. Also the knowing the right tool for the situation is very important. What has your favorite ripple been and why? Thats easy, The Black Dahlia Murder House ripple is by far my favorite. This was the first time I had participated Ripple and it absolutely blew me away. I was able take part in it but also witness something that is so incredibly effective and innovative happen right before my eyes. I rarely take things at face value; this was a game changer for me. Captain is everyones favorite k-9 investigator; do you feel Captains ability outshines the technological way of investigating? As far as the viewers see, I could appear to be the case as its so different and Ill admit hes fun to watch work. As I aforementioned a big part of our success is knowing the right tool for the job. He provides huge situational advantages that modern technology is unable to remotely replicate. However having him join us at all times would be irresponsible and unnecessary. The Captain is an English or Bench type of Yellow Labrador that will turn 4 this spring. When he was very young I started him with scent work training which is the same method used to train drug and bomb sniffing dogs. I trained him to sniff out and alert us to electromagnetic radiation, electricity, and the ozone thats subsequently emitted when a field is present. The common theory in the paranormal is that when ghosts or spirits are present or manifesting, they draw present energy together creating an EMF and subsequently an anomalous electromagnet field is generated. Captain can cover large or hard to access areas to identify this to let us know if a field is present. This way we can focus on the correct area(s). I also had to train myself with reading multiple books and talking to many canine behavior experts to truly understand what his body language was telling me.

People can confuse newest technology with the most effective technology. I was guilty of this for a time. ThroughE-mail: someone@example.com out years and upgrades my voice recorder quality improved and my results gradually suffered. I have found that sometimes antiquated tech can be the most effective. The Para-Line is a device I built that uses a magnetic recording device, an omni-directional condenser mic that telescopes and creates white noise at the point of recording. This has given me by far the best result of any recorder that I have ever owned. I personally see noise canceling technology as our enemy as the noise being canceling (regardless of the frequency range) are the very noises (voices) that were trying to capture. Is there something you would like the audience to know about you? Not until the statute of limitations is up. kidding Im just a normal dude that had a dream that was fortunate to work hard enough to see it happen. I do want to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone thats been watching and supporting us. We worked really hard on this project and are very proud of the outcome.

You are a psychic, can you explain your ability, and what type of psychic you are? I am primarily a clairvoyant, clairsentient, and clairaudient. That means i receive psychic impressions through visions, sights, smells, and tastes. I also am an empath...which means i can feel other people's physical and emotional pain and joy and other symptoms. This works in the present too, and is closely related to telepathy. And finally i am a medium...which means I can communicate with spirits crossed over and spirits that are earthbound as well. When did you first realize you had abilities? My first memorable experience was when I was four or five years old... however I didnt realize that not everyone could do what I do or see what I see until I was closer to 7 or 8 years old.

How do you feel about showing your abilities on television? Well, i am comfortable with who I am...but lets be honest...it is a bit like coming out of the psychic closet publicly. I have however been doing this full time for such a long time that i am ok with it. Its exciting to share it, and to show how a true medium can aid in an investigation and am hopeful that the series will show that more in upcoming episodes! What was the scariest moment of the season for you? The most emotional moment and the most scary moment of the entire season, hands down, were at the Cecil Hotel. Not giving anything away but everyone should watch the Ghosts of Skid Row episode next!! We have seen you on the show touch an item and have visions of who may have had contact with the item, does your ability work on items of the living as well? Yes, every action has an imprint in history and on any item it has a history. It is those imprints that I read. I have aided in many law enforcement agencies with open cases doing just that. What advice would you give to a person that is experiencing abilities such as yours? We all have some psychic ability...some more than others. It is a gift though. Dont fear it...its given to you for a reason and its to help others. Slowly but surely you can refine your gift and learn your own psychic language...every one is different and you have to learn, and learn to trust your own. There is no magic decoder ring. And, just like any other gift if you really dont want it, you can choose to refuse it and shut it down.

Where do you see yourself in a few years? I have a couple other projects for TV in the works as well as Haunted Encounters. I have my private practice so I will still be working with my clients. I have a book scheduled to come out summer of 2013 and another in the works. I hope to travel more (for leisure)... but overall I see a lot of refinement and a lot of success for haunted encounters and see it still running/shooting in a few years. I have said it before! We love what we do and love to share it with the world, and I think it shows.

It all started a few months ago our son would randomly say, Bye to nothing we could see. Then randomly say, Pa pa and wave. He was out at my mother-in-laws house and he waved at her dads picture and points at it and says Pa pa. He never got to meet him he passed away years before Oliver was born. My younger brother Ruben always came over and played dice with my husband & I. He had passed away at the young age of 38. His death has been very hard for me to deal with and I miss him very much. One night my husband and I were playing dice. We both got up and walked into the kitchen to get some appetizers and all of a sudden we hear the dice rolling on the table. We both looked at each other in disbelief (both skeptics). We both did a toast to Ruben because we knew in that moment he was with us! One day at work I tripped going down the basement stairs. I knew my neck would snap hitting the wall. Just before hitting the wall someone put their hand against my chest and put me up right on the step. There must be angels after that experience!

My Miracle
I would like to share a life altering event that managed to change my entire perspective on life after living my entire life with crippling dysthymia (chronic depression). Some things in this story may offend some, but hopefully may help some people as well. To give a quick background I have struggled with depression and mental illness since my early childhood which was made worse by an abusive relationship, loss of a career coupled with the job loss of my uterus, poverty, loss of a parent (not by death, but divorce), a physical disability brought on by a job I used to do and the loss of my husband because I could no longer work. After the day to day battle for two long years in agonizing, blinding pain, spending most of my daily life lying in bed and having half of my adult teeth Sara M, Colorado pulled due to medications I took for my disabilities, at my still young age of 30 I felt my life was over. Every day I wished for death, a release from my pain both physical and mental. I attempted suicide 3 times in the last 6 months, but my miracle begins with the last attempt. Feeling exceptionally hopeless one night I picked up my bag of medications and began the long process of swallowing them all. In all I took 6 bottles of pills, a mixture of two months worth of anti-depressants, two types of muscle relaxers, two types of NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories). I passed out, only to awaken a few hours later needing to vomit. I tried to get up but I couldn't walk, so I spent about an hour collapsing all over my bedroom and vomiting all over the floor desperately trying to get to the restroom. Once all that was over I managed to crawl back into bed and go to sleep. For about a week I felt really ill but ok, but about a week later I noticed blood coming from my urinary tract so I took a deep breath and called my Mom, I hadn't wanted to tell her what I had done because it would worry her, but now I was scared. "What have I done to myself?" I wondered. So my Mom took me to the ER and we explained what I had done. Every Dr. and nurse where appalled at my survival, telling me that it should have killed me. They could offer me no explanation as to why I didn't die. I'm not completely un-scathed, my heart rhythm is forever altered because of one of those medications so basically my heart rate is erratic and up and down. But I'm still here... That was when I finally believed that I am here for a reason. I don't know what that reason is, but that is not for me to ask. After being Godless for 20 years I believe that Jesus was in this bedroom with me that night, and he woke me up.

Great intellects are skeptical
Shadow Figures/Black Masses: Through years of reading all kinds of research and personal accounts, investigating on my own, with teams and strangers, and hearing firsthand accounts, I have come to the personal conclusion, that the vast majority of encounters and sightings, over 99%, by people of shadow figures and black masses, are caused by several different things, the least likely being an actual Ghost or Spirit. These issues not only explain Shadow figures and black masses, but a variety of other paranormal sightings. I am sure I cannot convince anyone of what they have seen, but I would like to point out some things to think about, to consider when evaluating what they have seen, or what they will see. My own personal experiences in all types of situations, and lack of a sighting that I can explain away, leads me to these conclusions. From what I have seen though, I can understand a lot of misinterpretations.

In listening to peoples accounts and seeing in person how people react when they see these things, I think there several reasons why people are seeing, or better, think they are seeing these them. They are 1) Imagining them, being tricked by light and just cannot interpret what they are seeing, 2) They are such believers in paranormal happenings, that they let their imagination run away with and they are not willing to come up with a logical explanation as to what they saw, and automatically assume it paranormal some cases, even drug induced. 3) Pareidolia, which probably works in combination with 1 and 2 to solidify their misinterpretation of what they are seeing. 4) Drug induced, and occurrence which I am afraid happens all too often, not only with your typical, non-investigator, but also with countless so called Paranormal Investigators. These can be anything from alcohol and weed, to other mind altering drugs. 5) Just plain psychosis. With so many other logical explanations that these sightings can be attributed to, I must logically assume that they are the causes for most sightings and experiences. The other huge factor in my assertion is the lack of true visual and scientific evidence. Yes, I know, there have been thousands of pictures and many videos of these phenomena. Being a photographer for over 30 years, and having looked at hundreds of these pictures and videos, I have come to the conclusion that again, over 99% are just the mind playing tricks on believers. Another statement that makes me consider a lot of sightings easily explained to one of the 5 reasons above, I saw it out of the corner of my eye. Im sorry, your eye does not focus out of the corner, it can detect movement well enough, but to clearly distinguish an object is not possible, especially in a darkened space. The human eye is not build for this type of sight; humans see straight ahead the most clearly and can accurately interpret these images. My final account and pet peeve, is how light sources affect ones night vision. Flashlights, camera flashes, LCD screen all come to mind. I have witnessed more times than I can count, investigators with all of these light sources, trying to investigate in the dark and accounts for invalid sightings. The eyes cannot adjust to the dark after being exposed to these types of light sources. To look from the light to the dark and think you have seen a shadow is insane. The eye cannot dilate that quickly and the brain cannot interpret images after being exposed to a bright light. Unless there is a specific need for light for safety purposes, turn off the flashlight, stop with the camera flashes, get you head out from behind the video camera LSC screen and eyepiece and let your eyes try and see what they can see. And they try to logically interpret what you are seeing.

But, I am still out there looking, hoping to see something with my own two eyes that I cannot explain. And for those who know me, they know that even though I am highly skeptical and also extremely logical though I am open minded and I know something is going on.which I will get to another time. I didnt understand why the Angels came for a visit. After being older and speaking to my mother about the incident she recollects that she was reading the Bible and something told her to check on her children. She came into the room and I had the covers over my head. My mother said What is wrong? I told my mother that there were two men in my room. I looked to show her but they were gone. She said she checked the windows in the room and the rest of the house, everything was locked up and there was no way any men could have come into my room. She returned to where I was and she asked me what they looked like, once I told her she knew instantly what I was talking about -Angels. I am still not sure why the Angels had came to visit maybe to protect me or it was just to send a message. I do know that this is an experience I will never forget. I realize now how special it has made me feel to know we are not alone and can be protected. Bo Hernandez

I Grew up in a haunted home experiencing poltergeist, haunting & possessions with my mother. I have also had many paranormal experiences throughout my entire life from visitors in my dreams leaving messages for their loved ones, premonition dreams that come true and occasionally seeing auras. I dont consider myself psychic or anything . I think Ive always had these experiences because I have always questioned life! Although Ive had my experiences I am a total skeptic first! ~ Renee Estrada I have always been fascinated with all things paranormal. I have always been fascinated with stories of haunted houses. When I was 14 the Amityville Horror House article was written in the local news paper, I cut the article out of the paper and obsessed what it must have been like to live in the house. I have never missed an episode of the X-Files or Fringe, wondering how far from the truth some of these stories really are. When I was a child I got a telescope and looked for UFO activity in the sky, believing that the Roswell incident was true, and always have believed that Bigfoot walked the earth. I am a believer, though I go into every investigation skeptical. I like to take a scientific approach to each investigation. I have investigated around 30+ haunted locations where clients have reported ghostly activity. I have studied cryptozoology and hope that one day I will have an encounter of a lifetime.
