MICROMINE and Canadian-based gold mining company, Kinross Gold Corporation, have been announced as Innovators of the Year at the 2012 Russian Mining Excellence Awards. Both companies were nominated for the successful implementation of the first live underground mine control system in Russia and CIS countries - Pitram. The solution that was installed at the Kupol mine (Russia) operated by Kinross Gold Corporation, covers a number of aspects of the project, from material movements and grade control, to monitoring of equipment states. It also assists in facilitating the capture of all required production data, as well as centralising control over hazardous mining conditions and labour safety.

MICROMINE 2013 - COuNTdOwN TO RElEAsE

The countdown to the release of Micromine 2013 has begun with the availability of technical previews, the precursor to the new version Beta program.

Micromine 2013 is due for release next year, as with all Micromine releases, 2013 comes packed with new features and functionality. A few of these include:

Seam Block Models - Seam modelling tools

simplify the creation of SBMs, including splits, plies, overburden and interburden, even in stratigraphically complex areas. Micromines revolutionary stratigraphy display helps validate and visualise even the most complex seam hierarchy and Micromines stratigraphic modelling tools honour the original data, with smart tools that handle seam pinching and missing holes, producing a geologically correct model.

Rotated Block Models - One, two or threedimensional rotations are supported. Orientating the blocks to match the orebody means they make a better fit to reality, producing a smaller model and saving processing time and disk space. It also makes geological sense and is closely aligned with modern reporting requirements to confirm continuity of grade and geology.

Implicit Modelling - Its easy to create 3D

models (either surfaces or solids) without the need for a deep understanding of geostatistics and interpolation. These models may then be used on their own as visualisation tools, or as templates for a traditional interpretation.

Python Scripting - Python allows you to create

your own solutions whilst retaining Micromines ease-of-use. You can develop tools that are exactly right for you and run your own Python programs on top of Micromine. Python was designed for teaching and is one of the easiest programming languages to learn. It is supported by many third-party packages and libraries providing geospatial, statistical, graphing and user interface design tools. Popular Python scripts can easily be converted into features of the main Micromine application as they both use a similar development language.

New Vizex Features - A comprehensive range

of new features and improved functionality to Vizex will be delivered with Micromine 2013 including seam correlation, annotation layers, Seismic SEG-Y, Drillhole Solid, Colour/hatch/symbol sets, Line styles and Stereo 3D to name a few.

Micromine has expanded the Default Colour Palette so you can select a whole variety of colours when colouring a wireframe or creating a colour or hatch set.

A variety of colour ramps, rainbows, random palettes, and standard palettes are now provided via system form sets. To load a palette simply click the Forms button on the Colour Selection form, and select the palette you want to Open. In the Colour Selection form, you can right-click to create a custom colour. The changes you have made to the custom colours in the form can then be saved as a palette using the Forms | Save As option.

Often when working with wireframes it is necessary to bifurcate a wireframe (to split it into a trouser leg shape).

In Micromine you can partially select a part of the wireframe, and only build that part of the wireframe, which is very useful for bifurcating a wireframe.

To bifurcate a wireframe you can click where you want to start the partial selection of the wireframe, hold down the left mouse key and run the mouse around the piece of the wireframe you wish to select (partially select). Shown below highlighted in blue.

You can then build a wireframe connection from only that section of the string.

Once you have done this you can repeat the procedure for the opposite side of the bifurcation, or validate the wireframe and use the validation string to build the second part of the bifurcation.

Once this is done you can simply carry on building the two legs of the bifurcation as you would any other wireframe.

Snap Interval Resize operations
If you drag the line indicator to the corresponding target depth in a reference panel of type Column, they will snap to the nearest depth boundaries in that reference panel. Example: Lets resize Seam S1A to match to the next Lithology CO interval.

Ensure that the snapping button ( in the toolbar is enabled. 1. Click on the seam interval in the Seams Panel and the selection outline will display around the interval.

2. Move the cursor over the base of the Seam interval border until the cursor switches from a pointer to a resizing cursor. 3. Click, hold and drag the seam over the Target Lithology interval and release.

Snap Tie Line Move

Similar to the Snap Interval Resize operations, tie lines can be set to snap to the top or base of a panel interval. Example: Lets adjust the following tie line to snap from the top to the base of the Lithology CO interval.

Ensure that the snapping button ( in the toolbar is enabled.

1. Click on the tie line in question from the tie line panel. The tie line will change from blue to red. 2. Move the cursor over the tie line anywhere in between the panels until the cursor changes from a pointer to a resize cursor. 3. Click, hold and drag the cursor to the base of the Lithology CO interval and release.

GEOBANK MOBIlE: LateSt NewS

reCOrd INtereSt IN New fIeLd LOGGING SOLutION

At the end of October MICROMINe launched their newest product, Geobank Mobile, in both Perth and Brisbane. With record numbers attending both events, feedback has shown Geobank Mobile to be a great product with lots of potential. The ground-breaking field logging solution enables geological field data to be more confidently collected and manipulated. The software ensures that data is captured accurately with real-time validation and rich data input controls that minimise errors at point of entry. Geobank Operations Manager, Steve Bastick explains Geobank Mobile has been designed with geology and mining requirements in mind. Our clients have been demanding a site-based solution, which can save them both time and money, without compromising data quality. Geobank Mobile maximises efficiencies with its customisable calculated fields, in-built data approval

and transfer mechanisms. It also seamlessly integrates with MICROMINEs Geobank and Micromine products, and can interface with all standard format databases. Geobank Mobile is practically accessible to clients located onsite, where it is supported on both touch screen and standard keyboard devices. Additionally it supports all NMEA standard GPS data, with the provisions to support additional devises in the future. As part of the launch, MICROMINE is also offering an out-of-the-box solution where Geobank Mobile software is bundled with a range of ruggedized devices. MICROMINE has carefully assessed the market to select the best ruggedized hardware available and can now recommend and provide these solutions directly to our client base. To coincide with the launch, MICROMINE will be offering its clients a 60 day free trial of Geobank Mobile. To find out more about this offer, contact MICROMINE at mm@micromine.com
