Structure
The Ring Generator unit is a plug-in unit constructed on a EURO-2 size printed circuit board and can be installed in any TM4 equipment cartridge or DYNANET subrack. The unit is enclosed in a steel case. The front edge of the printed circuit board provides a LED holder that also serves as the unit extractor. This LED holder includes a green LED which is ON when the unit is operative, see Figure 1. At the rear edge of the printed circuit board, there is a 232-pin Euroconnector. Through this connector, the unit receives its operating and control voltages from the backplane of the cartridge. In addition, the output voltages of the unit are connected through this connector to the backplane of the cartridge. The unit also incorporates the signal tone generator module.

Operation
The block diagram of the Ring Generator unit is shown in Figure 2. The unit consists of the following blocks:

Product description

1.3.1

Power supply block

The integrated power supply generates the voltages required by the Ring Generator unit. In addition, the power supply extracts the output voltages of the unit from the battery voltage. You can select if the power supply uses the ring generator in the keyed or unkeyed mode. In the keyed mode, the power supply can be turned ON or OFF remotely.

1.3.2

Reference circuit block

A sinusoidal reference voltage (Uref) is generated in the reference circuit. The frequency of this sinusoidal voltage is determined by the clock signal frequency that is brought from the control circuit. You can select from three alternative reference frequencies: 16 2/3 Hz, 25 Hz or 50 Hz. The selected reference frequency is brought into use by changing the frequency of the control circuit clock-oscillator. The reference voltage of the reference circuit is directed to the control circuit (See Figure 2).

1.3.3

Control circuit block

The control circuit controls the operation of the Ring Generator unit. In the control circuit, the reference voltage is compared with the measuring voltage that is obtained from the switching circuit. The measuring voltage is a voltage directly proportional to the output voltage of the unit. The control circuit controls the FET switches of the switching circuit so that the difference between the reference and measuring voltages remains as small as possible. A current measuring voltage that is directly proportional to the current of the FET switches is also directed to the control circuit from the switching circuit. If the measuring voltage exceeds its limits, the control circuit will protect the unit against the output short circuits by disabling the control of the FET switches.

1.3.4

Switching circuit block

The FET switches are incorporated in the switching circuit block. The control circuit turns the FET switches ON and OFF via the control transformers which generate a sinusoidal ringing voltage at the output of the block. The switching circuit generates a ringing voltage through the line filter to the output pins of the Ring Generator unit.

1.3.5

Signal tone generator block

The signal tone generator includes a Wien-bridge oscillator that receives its operating voltage from the poles of the input capacitor in the power supply. The signal tone generator is continuously operational when the unit is connected to the battery voltage. Keying has no effect on the signal tone generator. The voltage from the oscillator is fed via the transformer to the pins of the unit connector. The transformer separates the power supply battery from the output pins of the block. A voltage with the level of 1 V and the frequency of 425 Hz is received from the connector. The output is protected against short circuits.

Installation and operation

Chapter 2 Installation and operation

There are dangerous voltages in the unit, the covers must NOT be opened when the unit is connected to the operating voltage.

2.1

Introduction
Ring Generator TG 21261 can be installed in any TM4 cartridge or DYNANET subrack. When installing the unit, take into consideration the following factors:
D D D D D D

Is the operation keyed or unkeyed. What is the capacity of the output voltage. What is the frequency of the output voltage. Will the central battery (CB), local battery (LB) or both be used. Will the signal-tone generator be used. If the central battery or both batteries are used, the installation is affected by the selection of Ring Generator output pin (RG1 or RG2) that is connected online through the signalling equipment. If the central battery is used, the installation is affected by the selection of the battery that is connected in series with the output of the Ring Generator unit.

The features of the Ring Generator unit can be altered with the jumper settings of the jumper settings. See Figure 3 for the location of the jumper settings. Power for both central battery and local battery ring generators can be supplied simultaneously by the same power supply. Keying of the Ring Generator unit can be controlled only by a unit located in the same cartridge.

Connecting jumper settings

Locations of the jumper settings and their pin numbers are presented in Figure 3. In order to achieve the required feature, the U-links of the jumper settings must be installed in the locations shown in Table 1 to Table 8. The following features can be set with the jumper settings:
D D D D

Set Ring Generator to keyed or unkeyed mode with jumper setting NR1A (see Table 1). Select frequency for Ring Generator with jumper setting NR1C (see Table 2). Set the value of the ringing voltage with jumper setting NR1D (Table 3). Bring local battery, central battery, or central and local battery into use (see Table 5 Table 8).
