CREATING GRAPHS EASILY WITH MICROSOFT EXCEL 2007

INTRODUCTION
Often times we need a graph to present information in a report or slideshow. Microsoft Excel 2007 makes graphing especially easy. Please follow these instructions to learn just how simple it is to create sophisticated graphs quickly at the click of a few buttons.

Understanding the Layout in Excel 2007:

Columns run alphabetically

Rows run numerically

Please notice the highlighted areas within the following three images in which an orange-gold color indicates the different columns (headed by letters) and rows (numbers). Column A Row 10 Column B Row 8 Columns A-B Rows 1-10

Lets Get Started: Input Text to Convert to Chart 1. Open Microsoft Excel 2007, create a new document. To start formatting, input details into relative rows and
columns exactly as you want to view the measurement data in the graph. In the example, common items are listed vertically with correlating counts following per line (see Images 1a-1c and 2 below).

1. After all data is entered in columns and rows, left mouse click-and-drag over the information in your graph. This
will highlight the information in gray as shown above in Image 1c.

2. After highlighting all data, go to the upper-left corner of the screen and click the Insert tab; new sub-menu options
will appear. Please see Image 2 to view the sub-menu labeled Charts.

3. Choose the Chart type that you prefer. Notice, in this example, how two new sub-menus appear, after clicking the
Bar Chart option. Please see Image 3 to select a Chart Layout and Image 4 to select a Chart Style.

Navigate Options to Stylize 4. Use the scroll bar arrows to select different options. In Image 4, the scroll arrows are circled in orange to show
these navigational buttons located to the right side of each of the sub-menus.

5. Now you should have a stylized graph for your presentation! 6. If you need different types of graphs and want to change the style of a created graph, then click the Change Chart
Type icon in the upper left corner of the screen (highlighted in the orange box shown in Image 5 below). You may also save the graphing information as a template by clicking the Save as Template icon.
