The goal of listening skill in Unit 1: Respond to transactional and interpersonal dialogues about greeting, leave taking, introducing one and others.

Evaluation : According to Standar Kompetensi and Kompotensi Dasar in Listening in 1th semester :

Standar Kompetensi : 1. Memahami makna dalam percakapan transaksional dan interpersonal sangat sederhana untuk berinteraksi dengan lingkungan terdekat.

Kompetensi Dasar : 1.1 Merespon makna dalam percakapan transaksional (to get things done) dan interpersonal (bersosialisasi) yang menggunakan ragam bahasa lisan sangat sederhana secara akurat,

lancar, dan berterima untuk berinteraksi dengan lingkungan terdekat yang melibatkan tindak tutur: menyapa orang yang belum/sudah dikenal.

Our analysis : In this unit the material printed in a book, especially listening material the book target is to make the student know how to respond when someone else greet, how to reply with good manner and good language, . The book includes an animated picture that shown some character that make a conversation. This is a good thing which will attract students to read and encourage their interest in study. Because this book is only giving short information about how to respond the greeting, the learning process will only depend on how good a teacher develop the material more detail and more understanding for the student.

The goal of speaking skill in Unit 1: Produce transactional and interpersonal dialogues about greeting, leave taking, introducing oneself and others.

Evalution : According to Standar Kompetensi and Kompotensi Dasar in Speaking in 1th semester :

Standar Kompetensi : 3. Mengungkapkan makna dalam percakapan transaksional dan interpersonal sangat sederhana untuk berinteraksi dengan lingkungan terdekat

Kompotensi dasar : 3.2 Melakukan interaksi dengan lingkungan terdekat yang melibatkan tindak tutur: menyapa orang yang belum/sudah dikenal.

Our analysis: The goal for this book in unit one for speaking skill, is to make the student to be able to respond greeting from someone in near student environment. For the example when student greet their parent and teacher or greet someone they never been meet before. The dialogue is applicable for student to practicing it with their friend and automatically will improve their confident. But the teacher that will using this book must improve the material because in this book especially for this speaking activity in unit one there are no other activity rather than only short dialogue that already printed in a book. So the teacher must encourage the student to make their own dialogue. Only depends on material in a book is not good for learning process.

The goal of reading skill in Unit 1: Make ideational responses to short functional texts (shopping lists).

Evalution : According to Standar Kompetensi and Kompotensi Dasar in Reading in 1th semester :

Standar Kompetensi : 5. Memahami makna dalam teks tulis fungsional pendek sangat sederhana yang berkaitan dengan lingkungan terdekat

Kompotensi Dasar : 5.2. Merespon makna yang terdapat dalam teks tulis fungsional pendek sangat sederhana secara akurat, lancar dan berterima yang berkaitan dengan lingkungan terdekat .

Our analysis: In this reading section the book provide student with simulation activity about shopping list. The book guides the student to be able to decide which product they need to buy and which product are not need to buy. This simulation activity is great for the learning process

because will make student more active, and this activity is also good for reading group discussion. From the discussion the teacher can ask the student to present their group result. While the student presenting their result, the teacher can analyze the student skill.

The goal of writing skill in Unit 1: Create short functional texts (shopping lists).

Evalution : According to Standar Kompetensi and Kompotensi Dasar in writing in 1th semester :

Standar Kompetensi : 6. Mengungkapkan makna dalam teks tulis fungsional pendek sangat sederhana untuk berinteraksi dengan lingkungan terdekat

Kompotensi Dasar : 6.1. Mengungkapkan makna gagasan dalam teks tulis fungsional pendek sangat sederhana dengan menggunakan ragam bahasa tulis secara akurat, lancar dan berterima untuk berinteraksi dengan lingkungan terdekat

Our Analysis: In this writing section the book provide student directly to the exercise from shopping list activity. The student must be able to make their own shopping list (short functional text).some exercise guided with example of picture in a shop, but the other are not. So once again the teacher must fulfill the lack of example and guidance.

Conclusion: Overall from our analysis from this book, this book is applicable for 7th grade student in junior high school. The book provided with attractive picture and good example, but in some point the book is lack of example guidance and only explains shortly the instruction. For teachers that will use these books we suggest that the teachers also use another book for add on in order to completing the material which is not available in this book.
