Lighthouses are now a popular decorating theme for living rooms, calendars, cards, screen savers, towels and more. Many images are infused with shimmering light to symbolize Christian faith and hope. Yet the purpose of a lighthouse isnt to look pretty against a sunny sky although it does but to illumine a ships way beneath heavy, dark clouds or a moonless night. Indeed, the lighthouse itself doesnt even light up until its surroundings grow dark! Surely Jesus loves to share our joys, and we praise his glory during lifes bright times. But Gods primary purpose for coming to live among us was to save us from the storm of sin; to illumine our path through the darkness of death, in all its forms; to be the light guiding all people safely home. Jesus light shines for us day and night, rain or shine, to bless us with faith and hope.

Missions
(continued from page 1) March Jesus Victory Garden: This is the perfect kick-o month for our Garden. The gardeners will again be asking you to volunteer to take a plot for the summer as well as starting the seedlings and gathering our supplies. Our produce has been a blessing to those in need and we will again be sending our beautiful bounty to the Ambler Community Cupboard and the St. Philips Cupboard. Start saving those milk bottles! April Carson Simpson Farm: Last year we were able to sponsor full-week scholarships for more than ten inner-city youth who would otherwise not be able to have the wonderful experience of a week at camp. Our Flower Sale is the fund-raiser that supports those scholarships and is always just in time for Mothers Day so look for your order form. May Heifer International: Heifer has been one of our long-standing missions and is always well-supported. Most of us are familiar with what they are about: supplying livestock and other support systems to impoverished areas world-wide (and here in the States, too!) in order to allow people to become selfsucient and prosperous by raising their own food. Many times that gift enables people to produce enough to share and even start their own small industry. June Ambler Community Cupboard:This is another local outreach that we have been supporting for some time. Mattie Dixons original mission in North Hills has grown into an important community support not just as the original food cupboard eort but an expanding program. Our gifts this month will go to help in those expanding programs for struggling families. July School Supplies: Our school supply collection last summer was targeted for Emmanuel UMC but we did so well that we were able to donate a number of supplies to St. Philips families as well. This year we will continue our eorts to send children o to school with all the supplies they need. August Interfaith Housing Alliance: Jarrettown has been hosting families in this program for years under Sue Diehls loving and compassionate leadership. We partner with other churches in the Alliance to take turns hosting families who are experiencing temporary homelessness and this month is JUMCs month. volunteers are needed to provide transportation, meals, overnight stays, laundry and whatever support we can. Sue will have sign-up sheets in July be a blessing to someone and join in. September Operation Christmas Child: Shoeboxes!! Save em, wrap em, fill em up with goodies for a child somewhere in the world that wont have a Christmas unless you give it to them. Dates for wrapping and delivering will be published in plenty of time. October Laurel House:This shelter for abused women and children was a pet mission of Martha Circle until last year when we decided that it was too important a mission to keep within that group. We sponsored a speaker from Laurel House and learned a great deal about the multiple support systems there are for these women and children. Our collection focuses on gift cards and personal hygiene items for their use in the shelter. November Angel Tree: rachel Circle puts this tree up in the narthex every year and decorates with gift tags for children and teens at the Methodist Home for Children. You may take any tag (or as many tags as you want) and purchase a toy or gift for the boy or girl in the age range you select. Gift wrap can also be donated and the gifts will be delivered in time to be wrapped and distributed to the children for Christmas. You have always been very generous imagine how wonderful it is for those children to know how much you care. December Aid for Friends: How many outstanding local outreaches there are and this is just one more. rita Schiavone began this mission by simply taking a meal to a shut-in neighbor. As with most things like this, word got out, others wanted to join in and now AFF occupies a warehouse in Northeast Philadelphia. We keep our freezer available for all the meals and soups you deliver as well as the meals prepared by our regular groups of women and Childrens Ministry volunteers. Cash donations are always welcome and can be used to supply some of their clients with necessary household items. Keep a pack of trays in your kitchen for those leftovers they will be so warming to someone homebound. Jesus told us that whatever we did for the least of our brothers and sisters we were doing for him also. In 2013 we can do much for Him. Will you join us?

GUATEMALA 2013:We still have a few spots left! Our Sr High ministry will be traveling to Guatemala on June 23 29, 2013 for our summer mission trip. We encourage all students in 9th 12th grade to attend this life changing trip! A $300 deposit is due on ASAP for consideration for a spot: we have had a great turnout and there is now a waiting list for a spot. We will be doing fundraising in the spring to significantly lower the cost of the trip. During this trip, we will experience cross-cultural ministry as we do construction projects, work in orphanages, help in food kitchens, as well as worship the Lord. See Nick for more details! We continue to support our Compassion Child Ned. He is now six years old and we have been supporting him for two years. We are also selling THrIvE t-shirts (see picture). All profits from sales on these shirts will go to support Ned. See Nick to buy one! Blessings! Nick Agazarian Youth Pastor jumcyouth@comcast.net 267 243 5490
