VERTICAL CONDENSOR AIM: To determine the latent heat of vaporization of steam and water.

INTRODUCTION: When a saturated vapor is brought in contact with a cooler surface, heat is transferred from vapor to the surface and film of condensate these produce during the process of condensation one can obtain either film or drop wise condensation occurs. However one cannot comp FORMULA: Q = mc Cpc [ T i- To ]= Where, Q m amount of heat transferred (kJ / s) or W Mass flow rate (kg / s) rate of condensation (g/ s) latent hat of vaporization ( J /g ) (W)

THEORY: The is obtained during film wise or 1/5 or 1/6 of drop wise condensation. In case of vapor condensation on vertical tub the condensate film flows downwards under the influence of gravity but it is related to the viscosity of the condensate film and the heat flows the film by condensate film. The flow is normally streamline and the heat flow through the film by condensation. REQUIRED MATERIALS: Steam generator set up Condenser of vertical type Pump for pumping water with storage tank Thermocouple Thermometer PROCDURE: Steam generator is filled with water up to the mark. Temperature of the steam generator or boiler is set at value about 105 c. Close the steam generator valve and supply power to produce the steam. Continuous cold water supply is connected to condenser. When steam is formed cold water supply is started. Now open the steam generator valve and adjust Rota meter for cold water flow. Condensate is collected and measured. Inlet and outlet temperature of cold water is noted. Steam inlet and outlet condensate temperature are noted.
