The Baptism of the Lord

Living our baptism means making the decision every morning when we wake and start our day to be and remain a Christian, a follower of Christ, a son or daughter of God. Through our baptism we have been incorporated into Christ, his mystical Body which is the Church. We have become Christ-like, meaning that there is a new potential Christ in each of us, just waiting to be realized. Our lives therefore take upon new purpose when we realize through faith that God is in us through the Holy Spirit and he is sending us forward to live as his beloved children and witnesses in the world. The joy of our common vocation as Christians is that God is with us, has sanctified us through baptism and is also counting on us.

Vocation Seeds
As John the Baptist introduced the people of his time to Jesus a voice from heaven said, You are my son, the Beloved, with you I am well pleased. Perhaps God is calling you to do the same in our time as a priest, deacon or religious. If God is calling you, contact Fr. Hansoo Park at (416)968-0997 or email vocations@vocations.ca St. Augustines Seminary Come and See Weekend February 1 st 3rd The Love of Christ urges us on to radically respond to his call to follow Him whole-heartily. This is an opportunity for young men of 18 years or older to spend a weekend of prayer, reflection and information on the process of becoming one of Christs disciples through the Catholic priesthood.

Letter of Thanks
A heartfelt "Thank You" from the St. Vincent de Paul Society. It is amazing what we were able to do in 2012 because of you. First of all, we expanded our reach into the Stonegate area since the St. Mark's parish does not have a St. Vincent de Paul presence. There are many people in Stonegate who are struggling with unemployment, substance abuse, depression and mental illness, loneliness, and living on the margins of social assistance. We could share a story about each one in need however, the single mother with three young children we found in a two bedroom apartment with nothing more than a few scraps of rickety furniture made us once again aware how difficult life can be for people around us. We made friends with a man who during his whole life struggled with drug abuse but perhaps our constant presence has brought him to St. Joseph's Glendale House. Many people call us because the rent is too high and the welfare money is too little to deal with unexpected things that happen. We visit these people; you made it possible. We are also developing a partnership with Stonegate Ministry. Its thrift store is there for anyone who needs clothing and small household items whether they have money or not. We have committed ourselves to support the Stonegate Community Kitchen where people can have a free meal and find support and friendship. Christmas 2012 was exceptional for many families in our own parish and in Stonegate. Students at Our Lady of Sorrows elementary school as well as a number of parishioners made Christmas possible for people who would otherwise just have waited for the next day. On behalf of all our neighbours who asked for help, we thank you. We thank you for your donations large or small. Together our parish knows what it means "I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me."
