The 2013 AACD Perioperative Leadership Summit is designed for participants to gain a greater understanding of the future direction of perioperative management in the changing national healthcare reform environment. There will be signicant discussion of the needs and challenges faced by Perioperative leaders related to resources, nances and care providers. This years program focuses on the synergies and differences between academic and non-academic practices in an effort to identify best practices. The program will explore the expanding role of OR medical and clinical directors and explain their expected roles from the perspective of surgeons, nurses, administrators and other anesthesiologists. There will also be special emphasis placed on the concept of Perioperative Services as a Center of Excellence. In keeping with a hallmark trait of the AACD conference, sessions will be interactive and allow for active participation of attendees. As in all past summits, there will be multiple forums and opportunities for participants to exchange ideas and network with thought leaders in perioperative management. Nurses: Up to 16.83 contact hours will be awarded to all individuals based on documentation of actual attendance time, meeting minimum attendance requirements specic to the activity, and payment in full. University of Kansas School of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Commission on Accreditation.

Program Goal
The goal of this program is to provide a network for perioperative nurse administration colleagues to explore the roles and challenges of the operating room (OR) nurse in a non-academic or director role, and to develop practical strategies and skills for effectively managing the challenges encountered in the work environment.
A full refund of registration fees, minus a $100 administrative fee, will be available if requested in writing and received by February 3, 2013. No refunds will be made after this date. A $50 fee will also be charged for returned checks. Please note that if you fail to cancel your registration by the deadline and do not attend, you are still responsible for payment. The AACD and KU Medical Center Ofce of Continuing Medical Education reserve the right to cancel the summit and return all fees in the event of insufcient registration. The liability of the AACD and the University of Kansas is limited to the registration fee. AACD and the University of Kansas will not be responsible for any losses incurred by registrants, including, but not limited to, airline cancellation charges or hotel deposits, etc.
Program Objectives
At the end of the Summit, participants will be able to: Analyze the OR clinical director and nursing director roles and issues in non-academic practices. Discuss the impact of generational differences on managing the health care workforce. Describe the components of a Perioperative Services Center of Excellence. Discuss the effect of ongoing health care system transformation on Perioperative Services. Examine new and emerging practice models in OR nursing and anesthesia practice. Create a network of colleagues who are involved in perioperative administration. Assess the impact of electronic and social media in the operating room. Promote a culture of team building in the operating room. Initiate process improvement in the operating room. Identify ways to maintain efciency in the OR, viability of perioperative services and personnel accountability.
