Reboot the computer. It's always a good idea to restart the computer after an installation of a software application. Upon restart of the computer, first make sure you are connected to the internet. If so, start CruisePak by Double Clicking on the CruisePak 3.6 icon located on the desktop. You might be prompted by your firewall on whether to allow CruisePak access to the internet. If you are prompted, then allow. Since this is a new installation, the following screen will appear.

Select where you want CruisePak to install the database. The database is a software repository which stores all of your customer information. Option (1) installs the database in a subfolder of the My Documents folder called CruisePak36. This option is best for single users.
Option (2) installs the database in a subfolder to the Shared Documents folder called CruisePak36. This option is best for when you want multiple computers to access the same CruisePak database (Network). Option (3) installs the database in a folder that you determine. This is best for the case when you wish to install the CruisePak database to a shared folder on a File Server or some other location. Option (4) tells CruisePak not to install any databases. Use this option if this computer is simply an agent's computer on an already existing network running CruisePak (i.e. the databases are already installed in some other location. IN THIS CASE, the installation will stop and you will need to use the WORKSTATION CONFIGURATION utility to instruct CruisePak as to which computers to use. See the instructions in the next section of this document. Click Continue. The next screen that appears is shown in the following.

Network Best Practices CruisePak is designed to be a multi-user system. Whether you are a home based agent with two computers or a full service agency with 20 or more, certain practices should be observed to provide an optimum computing environment. Some of these issues are as follows. 1. For peer to peer installations (i.e. installations without a file server), avoid installing a shared database on an agent workstation that is heavily used. Virus Checkers, Email programs, Graphics programs all take system resources and could freeze the computer thereby corrupting the CruisePak database. It is recommended to install the database on a little used computer. In lieu of a File Server, a dedicated Windows XP machine is the best solution. For home installations, this usually isn't an issue. However, for larger agencies, this has reared it's ugly head in the past. 2. Avoid using wireless connectivity. Cell phones, lights, etc. all contribute to corrupting the network connection. If at home, your neighbors could be using your wireless connection without you even knowing it. It isn't their fault, it is just the range and the way the wireless protocol works. Of course there is always the guy who is sitting outside in his car piggy backing on your wireless connection too. Ensure your wiring is in good shape. Older offices often use old phone lines for connecting computers. Connecting to the internet and reading web pages isn't a big deal. But with CruisePak, you are writing to a database...and that takes a lot of data transfer that cannot be interrupted or impeded by faulty wiring. Ensure your hubs and routers are in fine working order. Sometimes, ports go bad on those things; especially if you paid less than 50 dollars for the equipment.

On this screen, if you click the Browse button, you will be presented with a dialog to select the CruisePak main database. The Dialog is shown below.
Select the CruisePak main database file. It is usually called crupak36.mdb. Then, click Open. You will transition back to the main screen.
Back on the main screen, Click Apply. You will then be presented with the confirmation screen as shown in the following.
Click Yes to Confirm. Now CruisePak (and all other applications in the CruisePak product suite) will use the databases as outlined in that dialog. Click Yes to confirm. The application will exit out. Using Alternative Databases Advanced users of CruisePak may want to store their databases in several different locations. In fact, they may want to store their main cruisepak data in an Relational Database Management System (SQL Server) and their inventory in the provided database, and even possibly their Sequential Mail data in another Relational Database Management System such as MYSQL. CruisePak provides the ability to do this as well. To configure CruisePak to utilize data from multiple data sources, start the Workstation Configuration Utility. Then, click on the link of one of the applications whose data source you want to specify elsewhere. You will be presented with the following screen.
On this screen, you can specify alternative database connection information in the Connection field. Note that this is for advanced users and network administrators. The average person doesn't need to be concerned with this. Now Click Apply. The configuration will be saved. You can repeat this process for Sequential Mail database location, Inventory Database location, and even the Quickbooks Interface Database location. NOTE. If you are using alternative data sources, do not click Apply on the first screen in the Workstation Configuration Utility. It will reset everything back to the defaults. NOTE. This configuration is only good for the current computer. You will need to repeat alternative Configuration settings on all computers on the network. Configuration File CruisePak uses a configuration file to store its configuration information. This file can be displayed in a simple text editor. The Configuration File is located in the folder: C:\Documents And Settings\~UserName~\Local Settings\Application Data\CruisePak36 The file name itself is config.ini. Note that this folder and file name cannot be changed. If you would like to easily display the contents of the file using the workstation configuration utility, Click the more link on the Workstation Configuration Utility main screen and then from the popup menu, select Show Initialization File. Conclusion This gives a brief overview of the CruisePak Workstation Configuration Utility. For Network Installations of CruisePak, this utility will be used often on each workstation.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter errors while starting CruisePak, it is likely that your computer's windows configuration is not up to date. 1. You Receive An Active X Error
This can happen on computer's whose operating system is Microsoft Windows XP Home (and sometimes Professional). To remedy this, we first suggest that you. a. Perform a complete Windows update. If running XP Home or Professional, ensure you have Service Pack 2 installed. Also, you might want to update your browser (Internet Explorer) at this time if you are not running the latest version. If CruisePak still gives this error, try installing something called MSXML6 from microsoft. You can get it at the microsoft website (www.microsoft.com).
1. In your web browser, type the following URL in the address bar. Note that there should not be any line breaks in the address. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=993c0bcf-3bcf-4009be2127e85e1857b1&displaylang=en 2. 3. 4. Install the file as instructed. This is a Microsoft File and this file updates your Windows Perform another Windows update. This will update the file you just downloaded with the latest fixes from Microsoft. (Don't ask me why the fixes aren't provided in the download file). Try and restart CruisePak.
b.
c.
Check and Verify that your Windows Management Instrumentation Service is running...and that it starts automatically upon computer start. To do this:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Click Start and then select Control Panel. Click the Administrative Tools icon. Click the Services icon. On the Services screen, locate the Windows Management Instrumentation entry in the list. You may have to sort the list by name to do this. Double click on the Windows Management Instrumentation entry. You will be presented with the Properties screen. On this screen, for the Startup Type field, select Automatic from the list. Also, if the service is stopped, then click the Start button. Click the Apply button and exit out. Try and Restart CruisePak.
If the above didn't work, then we most likely have something blocking the installation of CruisePak. Things that could block CruisePak from installing are programs running in the background or the evil, over zealous virus checker. So, to stop all potential blocking applications, please do the following.
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Using Add/Remove programs, remove CruisePak. Click Start -> All Programs and then locate the Startup folder from the menu. Delete all entries in the Startup folder. Note that you are not deleting the actual programs, rather, you are just stopping them from automatically starting when the computer starts. Disable the Virus checker. Set it so that it doesn't start on computer startup. Reboot the computer. Reinstall CruisePak. Try and restart CruisePak. If CruisePak starts, re-enable the virus checker. Also, put all the shortcuts back into the Startup folder such that those applications will automatically restart when the computer starts. If CruisePak DID not start, proceed on.
e.
If, after completing the previous step, CruisePak still doesn't start, you can try and download something called the Jet Database Service Pack. Again, this is a microsoft file and updates your computer so that you can use a database. To download, please do the following.
1. In your web browser, type the following URL in the address bar. Note that there should not be any line breaks in the address. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239114 2. 3. 4. Read and download the file appropriate to your version of Windows. Note that XP users should not have to do this because the Service Packs all contain this stuff. Perform another Windows update. This will update the file you just downloaded with the latest fixes from Microsoft. (Don't ask me why the fixes aren't provided in the download file). Try and restart CruisePak.
f.
If CruisePak still doesn't start, there is something major going on with your computer. We'll have to do some forensics on the computer. Goto http://www.cruisepak.net/support for more information.
And finally, if you do get an Active X error, please realize that we have very stringent requirements when it comes to running CruisePak. The first and foremost is that your computer is up to date and that you have all the security updates installed. The fact that a user gets an Active X error indicates that not all of the latest updates have not been applied to the computer.

Sometimes, you get a database connection error when starting CruisePak. The severity of which can be minor or major. If you get a Database Connection Error, please try the following in order. a. Start the Workstation Configuration Utility. Ensure that the databases being specified actually exist. If they are not there, then use the Workstation Configuration Utility to locate and specify the location. Note that this commonly occurs after a new installation or a reinstallation of Windows. Note also that if you are on a network, a network administrator could have relocated the databases to a different location without configuring your computer. Severity: Minor Try starting the CruisePak database application. Click the Analyze button and run an analysis on the databases. It will tell you what to do next. The data may be corrupted or your computer might not be configured properly to access data. If the results of step (b) are to compress the data, then use the compress feature in the CruisePak Database application. If the results of step (b) indicate that your computer does not support connecting to databases, the resolution process could run anywhere from downloading a patch to reinstalling Windows. Technical Support area of cruisepak will address more on that topic. Severity: Medium To Major. CruisePak Starts Slow

This is a function of your Virus Checker. The Virus checker is most likely set to scan executables when they first start. It takes a long time to scan CruisePak because of it's large size, so, it will probably take two minutes or so to load. We recommend that you scan cruisepak once and that you configure your virus checker to not scan CruisePak ever again. The same logic applies to all other CruisePak applications. 4. Error Sending Document (24601) - Issue 1
This is due to your firewall not allowing CruisePak to communicate with the internet. Disable the firewall and allow CruisePak to connect. Then, configure your firewall to allow CruisePak to connect and then reenable the firewall. Contact the provider of your firewall to receive support. If you are running the Windows Firewall under XP or Vista, then you can alter the settings by doing the following. a. b. c. d. e. Click on Start Click on Control Panel Click on the Windows Firewall icon. In the Windows Firewall Screen, click Off to disable. Or, click the Exceptions Tab and add CruisePak and other applications to the list

5.
Check your Internet Connection. Sometimes, it's often the obvious that is the most unobvious. You also might want to check your router or cable modem to see if it has connection to the internet. ISPs are always resetting connections nowadays to guard against hackers and spammers. 6. All other Issues
