MATHEMATICS Paper 2 2 hours 30 minutes

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES: Answer all the questions in Section A and any five from Section B. All necessary calculation must be done on the same page as the rest of the answers. Therefore, no paper should be given for rough work. Mathematical tables with a list of formulae and squared paper are provided. Simple, non-programmable scientific calculators may be used.

(i) Determine a single matrix which represents transformation M followed by N. (ii) The matrix in (i) above maps the vertices of triangle ABC onto A'(3,2), B' (9,6) and C(3,6). Determine the coordinates of A, B and C. (iii) Find the matrix of Transformation that can map A'B'C' back on to triangle ABC. 12. Out of the 100 students attending a seminar, 60 students take Biology (B), 45 take Physics (P) and 40 take Chemistry (C).Of the 60 students taking Biology, 16 do neither P nor C. Of the 45 students taking Physics, 8 do neither B nor C and of those who take Chemistry, 5 take neither B nor P. The number of students who take either B or C or P were 83 and 17 took B and C but not P. (a) Find the number of students who take.

(iii) A boat at B moves towards A and meets a stone which is 8m from A. Find the angle of depression of the stone from the top of the tower. 14. A cooperate union wants to transport 500 bales of cotton. The union has a Benz lorry and a TATA lorry. The Benz can take 20 bales at a time while the TATA can take 30 bales at a time. The Benz cannot take two journeys more than the TATA. The cost of each journey for the Benz is shs.90,000 and that of the TATA is shs.60,000. The union has budgeted a maximum of shs.1,200,000 towards transport. (a) Write down five inequalities to represent the imformation above. (b) Represent the above inequalities on the same axes. (c) Determine the number of trips the lorries must make in order to minimize the cost of transporting the cotton. 1 1 + z and g ( z ) = 2 z . Find: 15. 16. The distance from Kampala to Kabale is 400km. James left Kampala at 0830 hours for Kabale driving at 60kmh-1 but his vehicle got a mechanical problem after 2hours which took 30 minutes to repair. He then continued with his journey driving steadily and arrived in Kabale at 1615hrs. At 1000hrs, Robert set off from Kabale driving at a steady speed of 80kmh-1 nonstop to Kampala. a) Draw a graph showing the routes of James and Robert (Use 2cm to represent 50km and 2cm to represent 1 hr). (b) At what time and distance from Kabale do the two men meet? (c) Calculate the speed with which James reached Kabale (d) Calculate James average speed for the whole journey. 17. In the war between Libya and NATO,in order to avoid hitting a hospital close to a military target 7500km due west of the Pentagon, a guided missile was launched from the Pentagon (USA) on a bearing of 250. After moving for 4000km, its course changed to a bearing of 2900 for a further 4000km before hitting a target in Libya. (a) Using a scale of 1cm to 1000km draw an accurate diagram showing the relative position and distance of the Pentagon and the target. b) What distance did the missile miss the hospital ?
