Brief Inform theatregoers of what happens behind the scenes of their favourite plays through a publication aimed to be a free hand-out at the doors of each play. Background / Considerations The Royal Court Theatre is Britains leading theatre company dedicated to discovering and nurturing emerging playwrights from the UK and around the world. As well as welcoming over 120,000 people through its doors every year to experience around 25 brand new plays, the Royal Court seeks out, nurtures and engages with thousands of emerging playwrights through the work carried out by the Literary Department and Studio. Consider producing something within the budget, as it is aimed to be a free hand-out. Consider a foldout A1 piece that is affordable and will push the budget to produce as many as possible. Aim for it to be a souvenir for theatregoers to take away with them. However, avoid making a pin-up out of the backside as the target audience are unlikely to post it up crudely in their bedroom.

Brief Create a campaign outlining how to make fitness fun, in the form of a printed publication and a graphically considered game. Background / Considerations The issue of weight gain is a global problem. For example, almost half of the people in the UK are either overweight of obese. This is because our lifestyles have changed: we used to hunt and farm, work in tough manual jobs and play outside. Now we sit at desks or in front of the TV, increasingly craving fats and sugars but not necessarily burning them off. The target is to get kids exercising for 60 minutes a day and adults for 150 minutes a week.

These will be displayed at zoos and sealife centres to appeal to the target audience. Background / Considerations Research into the species that are in the most danger of becoming extinct. Be consistent with facts & statistics to make it comparable between different species. How did they become endangered? Was it human intervention or lack of adaptability? Consider typefaces, colours and general tone of voice. Does it handle the sensitivity of the subject well? Does it make the audience emotional and willing to take action? How can the project be extended into more formats? E.g. posters, postcards, web apps, phone apps? Mandatory Requirements Consistent design styles Info-graphics to illustrate facts. Brief Communicate a set of famous film scenes in a purely iconographic form, to be placed in a publication that will be sold at entertainment & bookstores. Will act as a game that will leave the reader guessing, with a summary of the film accompanying the answers. Background / Considerations Look at famous movie scenes around the globe, theres absolutely no point leaving readers guessing a scene that has only been viewed by a certain amount of people. What are the key elements to that scene? What is the absolute minimum that tells the story of that scene visually? Consider adding a short description of the film, and why it is so famous to inform the readers who havent seen the film. Get them excited; make them want to see the film or the scene. Brief Transcribe a set of predictions that went wrong into a humorous set of A3 typographic posters that will be sold as a set and transferred into a publication. Background / Considerations Technology is always a good start. Look at predictions in the 80s and 90s that sound completely absurd in the modern age. Aim for a shock when readers realise what people really thought back then. Consider screen-printing the outcomes to make them more unique and desirable. A type exhibition could be an option to get the resolutions out to the public and to explore the theme of wacky predictions. Brief Create a set of contemporary typefaces that explore different art movements of the 20th Century. Background / Considerations Art Deco. Modernism. Post-Modernism. These are just a few art movements that introduced pioneering typefaces that are still used today. Look at the Bauhaus art school and the International Typographic Style movement (also known as Swiss) from the 1950s as inspiration for typefaces. With a complete range of styles and ideas, narrow them down and base a fully functioning typeface on them.
