Case Studies: 1.

Software Testing Outsourcing (On-site Functional) Challenge: A major printing firm with four offices / print centers across the U.S. was failing to meet their customers quality standards. Customer retention and the high cost of print job reruns were major problems. Limited and unstructured testing was performed by software developers and client services representatives. When we were contacted by the CIO, a troubled project for a key customer was only a few weeks away from implementation. The projects documentation was poor and very little testing had been performed by the developers. What would be the solution for this scenario?

Solution: Recognizing that the developers and client services representatives did not have the time or the skills to perform thorough testing, we quickly assembled at the clients site a testing team staffed with a test team lead and QA testers. Using proven testing practices, the QA testing team defined test cases while simultaneously discovering undocumented requirements. Defect management and test metrics were also put into place during test execution. The QA testing team reported directly to the CIO to provide an independent evaluation of the projects quality. 2. Quality Assurance Client Overview The client, Thomson Reuters, is the worlds leading source of intelligent information for businesses and Professionals. Thomson Reuters operates in 100 countries with revenues of over $13 billion. It provides critical information to leading decision makers in the financial, legal, tax and accounting, healthcare, science and media markets. It is ranked #2 for Financial Data Services in Fortunes World's Most Admired Companies list and has many more recognitions under its belt. Business Challenges The clients customer base subscribes to online data reports of various markets. The client had no formal product life cycle management and software development life cycle. In addition, it was not properly documenting and analyzing defects, testing applications and maintaining standards. As a result, it was difficult to measure the effectiveness of testing and, in effect, the software quality. The company needed to establish a quality assurance (QA) structure that would meet industry standards. What would be the solution for this scenario?

Solution Approach: Used a global delivery model with four team members on the clients site and one team member working from offshore for the QA assessment project, followed by four team members on the clients site and 11 offshore team members to implement

the QA project. Implemented established industry-wide best practices in documentation and QA cycle management. Developed use cases and mapped them to test cases. Measured the testing coverage provided by this mapping and detailed our findings in a report at the end of each testing cycle. Executed 400 test cases and found 100 critical errors. Implemented the new QA process for one complete software development life cycle for the client. 3.
