1. Engine
The 1.5 litre Atkinson cycle engine with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology helps boost fuel efficiency and reduce unwanted emissions. Also, friction reduction technologies and an improved electric water pump further contribute to more efficient power delivery.

2. Hybrid System
Smaller and lighter Hybrid Synergy Drive system. The two intelligent motors combine to deliver superior electric power generation and motive force to drive the wheels.

Drive Modes
Drive modes let you optimise fuel consumption, throttle response and onboard energy use to suit driving conditions. Normal mode for a balance of both power and eco - efficiency, ECO Drive mode for maximum fuel efficiency and EV mode* which only uses the electric motor, ensuring a quiet, emission-free drive.
*EV mode is subject to battery levels and driving conditions.

3. Hybrid Battery
The hybrid battery is optimally positioned under the rear seat, improving trunk space and lowering the centre of gravity.

How the PRIUS c Hybrid Synergy Drive System Works

The output from the engine, coupled with the two intelligent electric motors, is continuously regulated by the intelligent Hybrid Synergy Drive system for maximum fuel efficiency and outstanding performance.

Normal Driving Starting

Only the electric motor* is used to move from a standing start. Motor and engine output are regulated to achieve optimum driving and battery- charging ef ficiency. Under low-load conditions, driving on electric power only is also possible.*

Accelerating
Legend: Hybrid Battery Electric Motor Engine Both the electric motor and petrol engine work together for powerful, smooth acceleration.

Decelerating
The cars kinetic energy is recaptured by the motor to recharge the battery.

Stopped
When the petrol engine and electric motor both stop, no fuel is consumed. **

*Petrol engine may be used also in some cases. **If battery power is low when vehicles comes to a stop, the engine will keep running to drive the electric motor that charges the battery, no external power is required for charging.
