Personal Identification Number (PIN)

1 Denition
The Personal Identification Number (PIN) feature enables a subscriber to protect his or her terminal against unauthorized use. The administration stipulates which features can be protected by a PIN. Authorization can be granted either for an assigned PIN only or for a confidential PIN only.

2 Mode of operation
The PIN is assigned individually to directory numbers. The subscriber has only one PIN, which is used for all inputs requiring a PIN, regardless of the feature. The PIN must be between 4 and 12 digits long. After authorization has been granted, a PIN remains valid until a new one is entered by the administration (assigned PIN) or by the authorized subscriber (confidential PIN). Assigned PIN The administration enters the PIN when it grants authorization. Confidential PIN The administration enters the PIN (once only) when it grants authorization. The authorized subscriber can then modify the PIN from his or her terminal, as often as he or she wishes, by replacing it with another. Successful use of the PIN If the PIN entered by the user matches the one assigned to the directory number, subscriber inputs will be permitted. Unsuccessful use of the PIN Faulty input If the PIN entered by the user does not match the one assigned to the directory number, the subscriber input requiring a PIN will be rejected (=unsuccessful subscriber input). Repeated faulty input To prevent misuse of a PIN, it may only be entered unsuccessfully ve times on any one day. Unsuccessful attempts thus refer to feature usage and modication of the PIN. If the PIN is entered unsuccessfully ve times in succession, all subscriber inputs requiring it are rejected for the day in question, irrespective of whether the PIN subsequently entered is correct or incorrect. At the 5th unsuccessful attempt, a printout recording the date, time and the directory number of the subscriber is produced. The subscriber inputs protected by the PIN are not released until the following day. The condential PIN can also be released by means of renewed input by the administration. Capacity Depending on the size of the database, the exchange will be equipped to handle up to 100% initial capacity of the subscribers with this feature.

3 Subscriber controlled input

In this feature, only the confidential PIN can be administered by means of subscriber controlled input. For the subscriber procedure, see: Analog subscriber ISDN subscriber GeoCENTREX Analog subscriber ISDN subscriber Subscriber controlled input functions Signaling method Analog Pulse Activate Deactivate Enter data Delete data Enter data and activate Delete data and deactivate Activate with/without data Feature use Status request Data request Status request with/without data Access code The access code for subscriber controlled input consists of a maximum of 6 characters or, for GeoCENTREX subscribers, a maximum of 5 characters. It can be formed from the symbols 5 , # and the service code (SC) with the digits 0 to 9. The operator can specify the character strings for the access code. Differences by pulse dialing The selected digits are not obligatory; other digits can be input (depending on the existing numbering plan). 1111 at the beginning of an input in place of 5 1112 at the beginning of an input in place of # 1113 at the beginning of an input in place of 5 # 5 as a disconnecting signal after the service code, not relevant # after the subscriber controlled input, not relevant ----X ----------------DTMF ----X ----------------ISDN Keypad ----X ----------------Funct. -----------------------
