Given equations are:

Lets consider the first equation,

In above equations x & y are two variables and 3 is constant. If we rearrange above equation as:

Above equation is in the form of equation of straight line y = mx +c Where m = - and C i.e. y intercept = 3/2. Such equation have many solution sets. To represent solution sets of such equation graphically lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. y= 3/2-x/2 y 1 0 2

x 1 3 -1

Pt (x,y) A (1,1) B (3,0) C (-1,2)

If we plot straight line passing through points A, B, C, it will be graphical representation of y= 3/2+x/2 i.e. x + 2y = 3 Following graph shows the line having equation x+2y = 3.

Lets consider the Second equation,

In above equations x & y are two variables and 4 is constant. If we rearrange above equation as:

+
Above equation is in the form of equation of straight line y = mx +c Where m = 4 and C i.e. y intercept = 2. Such equation is having many solution sets. To represent solution sets of such equation graphically lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. Y = 2x+4 y 0 4 8

x -2 0 2

Pt (x, y) D(-2,0) E (0,4) F (2,8)

If we plot straight line passing through points D, E, F, it will be graphical representation of y=2x +4 i.e. 2x-y = -4 Following graph shows the line having equation 2x-y = -4.

If we consider system of two given equation, such system will have only one solution set. This is the point of intersection of these two lines. To find out solution set graphically, we will plot graph of both the equation on same graph. The graph will be as follows:

From Graph it is clear that Pt P (-1, 2) is point of intersection, and will be solution of for system of given two equation. Lets prove it mathematically by substituting these values of x & y in both of given equation. Equation (1) x + 2y = (-1) + 2 (2) = -1 + 4 = 3 Equation (2) 2(-1)-2 =-2-2 = -4 This solution set holds true for both the equations. Thus graphically we can solve system of two equation similar to above. Lets consider some more examples: We will try to find out solutions of two linear equations similar to above by graphical way:

EXAMPLES: 1) 2x+y = 10; y - x =4

To represent solution sets of such equation graphically lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. 2x + y = 10 i.e y = 10 2x x y Pt (x, y) 2 6 A (2,6) 4 2 B (4,2) 6 -2 C (6,-2) y- x = 4 i.e. y = 4+x x y Pt (x, y) 0 4 D (0,4) 2 6 E (2,6) -2 2 F (-2,2) To find out solution set graphically, we will plot graph of both the equation on same graph. The graph will be as follows:

From Graph it is clear that Pt P (2, 6) is point of intersection, and will be solution of for system of given two equation. Lets prove it mathematically by substituting these values of x & y in both of given equation. Equation (1) 2x + y = 2 (2)+6 =4 + 6 = 10 Equation (2) y x = 6 -2 = 4 This solution set holds true for both the equations. 2) x + y = 10; x - y =4

To represent solution sets of such equation graphically lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. x + y = 10 i.e y = 10 x x y Pt (x, y) 2 8 A (2, 8) 4 6 B (4, 6) 6 4 C (6, 4) x-y=4 i.e. y = x - 4 x y Pt (x, y) 4 0 D (4, 0) 5 1 E (5, 1) 6 2 F (6, 2) To find out solution set graphically, we will plot graph of both the equation on same graph. The graph will be as follows:

From Graph it is clear that Pt P (7, 3) is point of intersection, and will be solution of for system of given two equation. Lets prove it mathematically by substituting these values of x & y in both of given equation. Equation (1) x + y = 7+3 = 10 Equation (2) x - y = 7-3 =4 This solution set holds true for both the equations. 3) 2x + y = 9; 5x - y =5

To represent solution sets of such equation graphically lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. 2x + y = 9 i.e y = 9 2x x y Pt (x, y) 2 5 A (2, 5) 3 3 B (3, 3) 4 1 C (4, 1) 5x - y = 5 i.e. y = 5x - 5 x y Pt (x, y) 1 0 D (1, 0) 2 5 A (2, 5) 3 10 F (3, 10) To find out solution set graphically, we will plot graph of both the equation on same graph. The graph will be as follows:

From Graph it is clear that Pt A (2, 5) is point of intersection, and will be solution of for system of given two equation. Lets prove it mathematically by substituting these values of x & y in both of given equation. Equation (1) 2x + y = 2(2)+5 =4+5=9 Equation (2) 5x - y = 5(2)-5=10-5=5 This solution set holds true for both the equations. Thus with the graph of 2 dimensional system i.e. x & y system, we can solve easily linear equation of 2 variables.

Now lets consider the three dimensional system: For this we will consider linear equations of three variables x+y+z=9 xy+z=3 x+yz=5 .(1) .(2) .(3)

To solve such system graphically we need to use three dimensional graph system with x, y & z axis. Lets find out some three dimensional points to draw graph of such system.

To find out points for such system we need to consider one co ordinate zero, and finding out other two by considering any one of them. But this will be complicated. This will not be easy to find out such points and draw graph. For such case we can solve any equation for any one variable and substitute that equation in other two, solving that by graph we can find out other two and third also. From equation no 3 z = x + y -5 (4) Substituting these values in equation no 1 & 2 and solving Equation 1 becomes: x+y=7 .(5) Equation No 2 becomes: x=4 .(6) Now solving equation 5 & 6 graphically, lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. x+y=7 i.e y = 7-x y 5 4 3

x 2 3 4 X = 4 will be straight line parallel to y axis.

Pt (x, y) A (2, 5) B (3, 4) C (4, 3)

To find out solution set graphically, we will plot graph of both the equation on same graph. The graph will be as follows:

From Graph it is clear that Pt C (4, 3) is point of intersection, Therefore x = 4 &y=3 Substituting these values in any of the above equation we will get z = 2 Thus for three dimensional system we can use this method also. ADVANTAGE: Many times solution set is fractional no, which can be easily determined by this way.

PART B Given equations are:

Lets consider the first equation,

In above equations x & y are two variables and 4 is constant. If we rearrange above equation as:

Above equation is in the form of equation of straight line y = mx +c Where m = - and C i.e. y intercept = 2. Such equation has many solution sets. To represent solution sets of such equation graphically lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. y= 2-x/2 y 2 1 3

x 0 2 -2

Pt (x, y) A (0, 2) B (2, 1) C (-2, 3)

If we plot straight line passing through points A, B, C, it will be graphical representation of y= 2 - x/2 i.e. x + 2y = 4 Following graph shows the line having equation x+2y = 4.

Lets consider the second equation,

In above equations x & y are two variables and 1/5 is constant. If we rearrange above equation as:

Above equation is in the form of equation of straight line y = mx +c Where m = 5 and C i.e. y intercept = -1/5. Such equation has many solution sets. To represent solution sets of such equation graphically lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. y= 5x 1/5 y -1/5 24/5 49/5

x 0 1 2

Pt (x, y) A (0, -1/5) B (1, 24/5) C (2, 49/5)

To show such points graphically, we can choose certain scale, Lets on y axis 1 unit = 1/5 So above co-ordinate will changes to: y= 5x 1/5 x y Pt (x, y) 0 -1 A (0, -1) 1 24 B (1, 24) 2 49 C (2, 49)

If we plot straight line passing through points A, B, C, it will be graphical representation of given equation Following graph shows the line having equation 5x y = 1/5

As discussed in part A, we can solve these equations also graphically, But combining such graphs need to select some proper scale.

Lets considers points of first equation: x 0 2 -2 Now consider points of second equation : x 0 1 2 Now we will draw graphs for above lines: y= 2-x/2 y 2 1 3 y= 5x 1/5 y 1 - /5 4 4/5 9 4/5 Pt (x, y) A (0, 2) B (2, 1) C (-2, 3)

Pt (x, y) A (0, -1/5) B (1, 4 4/5) C (2, 9 4/5)

From Graph it is clear that Pt P (2/5, 9/5) is point of intersection, and will be solution of for system of given two equation. Lets prove it mathematically by substituting these values of x & y in both of given equation. Equation (1) X + 2 y = 2/5 + 2( 9/5) = 2/5 +18/5 =20/5 = 4

Equation (2) 5x - y = 5 (2/5)-9/5= 10/5-9/5 = 1/5 This solution set holds true for both the equations. This clearly indicates we can easily solve the equation with fraction with the help of graph. Lets try this with few more examples: 1) x + y = 1 ; x 2y = To represent solution sets of such equation graphically lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. x+y=1 i.e y = 1 x x y Pt (x, y) 2 -1 A (2,-1) 4 -3 B (4,-3) 6 -5 C (6,-5) x 2y = i.e. y = x/2 1/8 x y Pt (x, y) 1 0 - /8 D (0,-1/8) 7 2 /8 E (2, 7/8) 4 17/8 F (4, 17/8) To find out solution set graphically, we will plot graph of both the equation on same graph. The graph will be as follows:

From Graph it is clear that Pt P (3/4, 1/4) is point of intersection, and will be solution of for system of given two equation. Lets prove it mathematically by substituting these values of x & y in both of given equation. Equation (1) x+y= +=1 Equation (2) x 2y = -2(1/4) = -2/4 = This solution set holds true for both the equations.

2) x + y = 2 ; x 3y = 2/3 To represent solution sets of such equation graphically lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. x+y=2 i.e y = 2 x y 2 0 -2

x 0 2 4

Pt (x, y) A (0, 2) B (2, 0) C (4,-2)

x 3y = 2/3 i.e. y = x/3 2/9 x y Pt (x, y) 2 0 - /9 D (0,-2/9) 4 2 /9 E (2, 4/9) 4 11/9 F (4, 11/9) To find out solution set graphically, we will plot graph of both the equation on same graph. The graph will be as follows:

From Graph it is clear that Pt P (1 2/3, 1/3) is point of intersection, and will be solution of for system of given two equation. Lets prove it mathematically by substituting these values of x & y in both of given equation. Equation (1) x + y = 1 2/3 + 1/3 =2 Equation (2) x 3y = 1 2/3 -3(1/3 ) = 2/3 This solution set holds true for both the equations.

3) x + y = 2 ; x y = 6/7 To represent solution sets of such equation graphically lets find out 3 to 4 points, which lies on graph for above equation, which is a straight line. x+y=2 i.e y = 2 x x y Pt (x, y) 0 2 A (0, 2) 2 0 B (2, 0) 4 -2 C (4,-2) 6 x y = /7 i.e. y = x 6/7 x y Pt (x, y) 6 0 - /7 D (0,- 6/7) 2 1 1/7 E (2, 1 1/7) 4 3 1/7 F (4, 3 1/7) To find out solution set graphically, we will plot graph of both the equation on same graph. The graph will be as follows:

From Graph it is clear that Pt P (1 3/7, 4/7) is point of intersection, and will be solution of for system of given two equation.

Lets prove it mathematically by substituting these values of x & y in both of given equation. Equation (1) x + y = 1 3/7 + 4/7 =2 Equation (2) x y = 1 3/7 -4/7 = 10/7 - 4/7 =6/7 This solution set holds true for both the equations. In this way we can easily solve linear equation system with the help of graph.
