LESSON PLAN 6: TEXT TAPPING PROMPTS: CINDIRELLA

The students produce clear and coherent wring in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Instructional objective:

The students will be able to recognize four types of reading by responding to prompts in order to help them realized they know more than they think. Assessment: I will evaluate the students responses to the prompts.

Materials Needed: Text tapping prompts: Cinderella (resource provided by Robin Gleason)

Total Time Needed: 20 min Procedures: Introduction (2 min): Today I am going to show you that you know more than you think. You are probably wondering how I am going to do that. Right? Well, you are going to respond to some prompts, and after each one we are going to find out what type of writing you did. Lets make it a game. If you have all of them correct as a class, I will give you something at the end of class.

Steps for instruction (15 min): I WILL HAVE IN A POWER POINT THE 4 PROMPTS. I WILL READ EACH ONE AND HAVE THE STUDENTS RESPOND IN A PIECE OF PAPER. AFTER THEY ARE DONE, I WILL HAVE SOME STUDENTS SHARE THEIR WRITING AND WE WILL DISCUSSED EACH GENRE OF WRITING AND HOW WE KNOW IT. I WILL HAVE IN THE BOARD THE SCORE, IF WE HAVE ALL CORRECT I WILL GIVE THEM A PIECE OF CANDY, IF THEY DO NOT, I WILL GIVE IT TO THEM ANYWAY. Closure (3 minutes): See, I told you knew more than you thought. I hope this fun activity helped you realized that.

Strategies for students requiring additional assistance: If the students are having trouble recognizing the type of writing they are doing I will help them by writing the names of the genres, or giving them hints.

TEXT TAPPING PROMPTS (From Robin Gleasons ED 345 class): NARRATIVE: We all know the story of Cinderella. If you were to begin writing the story, what would be the first few lines that you would write? Have a go at writing the lead sentence and then the first few sentences of the story of Cinderella. PERSUASIVE: Cinderella has heard that there is going to be a Ball at the castle and that all eligible young women are to attend. Cinderella is concerned that her mean step-mother will not allow her to go. If you were Cinderella, write a letter to your mean step-mother asking her to let you attend the Ball. INFORMATIVE: The Ball is over. There was a great interest in the mystery girls the Prince danced with all night. The step-mother and step-sisters get up early the next morning to read the morning paper. Write the deadline and the report in the morning paper. DESCRIPTIVE: The Prince has fallen in love with Cinderella, but he does not know who she is. She left in such a hurry form the Ball. In the process, she left one of her tiny silver slippers. The Prince wants to find her and sends out his lackeys with an explanation of what she looks like (along with the silver slipper). As the prince, write a few sentences that tells what Cinderella looked like, the sound of her voice, the scent of her perfume to give a complete picture of her so that she will easily be found.
