Plenary Session 1 : PSE- Status, Directions & Challenges of Industry Speaker 1 :

Professor Dr Stratos Pistikopoulos Imperial College London "The Current Status & Future Direction of Process Systems Engineering A Global Perspective" Stratos Pistikopoulos, Director of the Centre for Process Systems Engineering (CPSE) 2002-2009, is a Professor and Director of Research in the department of Chemical Engineering, at Imperial College London. He holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University (USA) and was with Shell Chemicals (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) before joining Imperial in 1991. He has authored/co-authored over 250 major research journal publications in the areas of modelling, control and optimization of process and systems engineering applications, 8 books and 2 patents. A Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, Editor of Computers & Chemical Engineering, Co-Editor of the Book Series in Computer Aided Chemical Engineering (Elsevier) and process systems engineering (Wiley-VCH), on the Editorial Boards of Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, the Journal of Global Optimization and the Journal of Computational Management Science, Professor Pistikopoulos has been a Founder/Co-Founder and Director of two spin-off companies from Imperial, Process Systems Enterprise (PSE) Ltd and Parametric Optimization Solutions (ParOS) Ltd. In 2007, Prof. Pistikopoulos was a co-recipient of the prestigious Mac Robert Award from the Royal Academy of Engineering; in 2008 he received an Advanced Investigator Award from the European Research Council, and in 2009 he delivered the Bayer Lecture in Process Systems Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, USA.

Speaker 2 :

Ir. Kamarudin Zakaria Vice President of Downstream Operations of PETRONAS "Current and Future Challenges of Refining and Petrochemical Industries" Ir. Kamarudin Zakaria, a Malaysian aged 58, holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Surrey, UK. He attended Senior Management Development Program at Wharton, USA in addition to Lean Manufacturing Program at IMD, Switzerland. He joined PETRONAS in 1984 after spending 4 years at Esso Malaysia Bhd and is currently the Vice President of Downstream Operations of PETRONAS. Prior to assuming this position, he has held various senior positions in PETRONAS including Vice President of the Petrochemical Business of PETRONAS, MD/CEO, General Manager (Plant) of petrochemical plant and refineries as well as Senior General Manager of PETRONAS Group Technology Solution. He served as a member of the Management Committee of PETRONAS from 2007 to 2010. In 2010 he was the Chairman of the Malaysian Charter of the Institute of Chemical Engineers of (UK) Malaysian Branch and a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers, UK as well as a professional engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. Ir. Kamarudin bin Zakaria sits on the Board of several companies namely, PETRONAS Chemicals Group Bhd, PETRONAS Penapisan (Melaka) Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS Penapisan (Terengganu) Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS Technical Training Sdn Bhd, Asean Bintulu Fertilizer Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd, Optimal Chemicals Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Optimal Glycols Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Port Sudan Refinery International Co Ltd.

Speaker 1 :

Professor Dr Jackie Y. Ying Executive Director of the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, Singapore "Nanostructured Catalysts for Green Chemistry and Energy Applications" Jackie Y. Ying received her Ph.D. from Princeton University, and was a NSF-NATO Postdoctoral Fellow and Humboldt Research Fellow at the Institute for New Materials, Germany. She was Professor of Chemical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is Executive Director of the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, Singapore. She has authored over 300 articles on nanomaterials, and presented over 340 invited conference lectures. She has over 120 patents issued or pending. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Nano Today. Prof. Yings awards include the American Ceramic Society Purdy Award, David and Lucile Packard Fellowship, Office of Naval Research and National Science Foundation Young Investigator Awards, Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, American Chemical Society Faculty Fellowship Award in Solid-State Chemistry, Technology Reviews Inaugural TR100 Young Innovator Award, American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Colburn Award, World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, Chemical Engineering Science Danckwerts Lectureship, Singapore National Institute of Chemistry-BASF Award in Materials Chemistry, Asian Innovation Silver Award, and International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) Jubilee Medal. She was elected to the German National Academy of Sciences, Leopoldina, and named one of the One Hundred Engineers of the Modern Era by AIChE in its Centennial Celebration.

Speaker 2 :

Professor Dr Ji Jaromr Kleme Head of Centre for Process Integration and Intensification, University of Pannonia, Veszprm, Hungary "The Challenges of Process Integration in Energy, Water, Emissions and Waste Minimisation" Ji Jaromr Kleme. The Head of Centre for Process Integration and Intensification CPI2 at the Research Institute of Chemical and Process Engineering, Faculty of Information Technology, Veszprm, Hungary. Previously the Project Director and Hon Reader at Dpt of Process Integration at UMIST and The University of Manchester, UK. Comprehensive industrial experience in process integration, sustainable technologies and renewable energy. Successful industrial applications. Track record of managing 79 major EC, NATO and UK Know-How projects. Overall research funding attracted over 10 M. Joint degrees supervisor and visiting professor at University of Maribor, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Xian Jiantong University. Editor-in-Chief of Chemical Engineering Transactions, Subject Editor of ENERGY and Journal of Cleaner Production, Regional Editor for Europe of Applied Thermal Engineering. Editor of Cleaner Technologies and Environmental Policies; Resources, Conservation and Recycling; Theoretical Foundation of Chemical Engineering and other journals. In 1998 founded and from that time has been the Chair of International Conference Process Integration, Mathematical Modelling and Optimisation for Energy Saving and Pollution reduction - PRES (www.conferencepres.com). An Acting Chair of CAPE WP (Computer Aided Process Engineering) of European Federation of Chemical Engineering. He authored nearly 200 archive papers. Among his books are Sustainability in the Process Industry: Integration and Optimization (McGraw-Hill) and edited Process Integration Handbook (Woodhead Cambridge).

Plenary Session 3 : Process Intensification & Optimisation for Chemical and Biomedical Applications Speaker 1 :

Professor Dr Shinji Hasebe Kyoto University "Process Systems Engineering for Realizing Micro Chemical Plants" Shinji Hasebe received his BS/MS degrees in Chemical Engineering from Kyoto University in 1976 and 1978. He became an instructor of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Kyoto

University in 1981 , and received the PhD degree in 1984. After the experience of lecturer and associate professor, he is a full professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Kyoto University since 2003. Now, he is also the Director of the Kyoto University Education Unit for Global Leaders since 2010 and Vice Chairman of the Committee for International Academic Exchange of the Graduate School of Engineering since 2010. Current research areas of Professor Hasebe are design and operation of micro chemical plants, supply chain management, synthesis of environmentally benign processes and the synthesis of separation processes. He was the Leader of NEDO project on Development of Microspace and Nanospace Reaction Environment Technology for Functional Materials for 5 years till 2011.

Speaker 2 :

Assistant Professor Dr Jong Min Lee Seoul National University "Robust Dynamic Optimization for Chemical Processes and Biomedical Applications" Jong Min Lee is an assistant professor in School of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Seoul National University (SNU) (Seoul, Korea). He obtained B.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering from SNU in 1996 and completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, United States) in 2004. He also held a research associate position in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, United States) from 2005 to 2006. He was an assistant professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering at University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada) from 2006 before joining SNU in 2010. He is also a registered professional engineer with APEGGA in Alberta, Canada. Dr. Lee has co-authored the book titled "Process Design using HYSYS" (AJIN, 2009). He received teaching excellence award from SNU in 2012, the best paper award in ICCAS 2011. His current research interests include modeling, control, and optimization of large-scale chemical process, energy, and biological systems with uncertainty.
