The challenge was to cope simultaneously with both functional requirements and aesthetic aspects. The modern essence of the style of these luminaires has completely realigned the traditional relationship between form and function, between lighting quality and

design. These are lighting modules for impersonal environments where light redefines a space and makes it more pleasant without neglecting the necessary technical priorities.

SCUBA DESIGN

Its clever mix of features makes SCUBA the new innovation leader in moistureproof luminaires. Not only are installation, maintenance and cleaning childs play SCUBA always provides perfect lighting conditions, even under the most demanding environ-

mental conditions, and also boasts reliable protection against external influences and chemicals.

Non-stop innovation SCUBA has worked hard to earn its acclaim

Versatility, handling and quality: SCUBA has something new to offer in every area

In situations where conventional luminaires are ready to give up, this new moistureproof lumi naire really comes into its own. Whether confronted with dirt, dust, moisture or chemical atmospheres (IP65: dusttight, jetproof) SCUBA ensures durable functionality and respectable lighting quality in any environment. The name itself says it all. SCUBA stands for:
S C U B A Shockproof Chemically resistant UV-stable Benefit-orientated Application-orientated

The best diffuser for every application A choice of diffusers made of unbreakable polycarbonate or chemically and UV resistant PMMA is available. This visually attractive product line is rounded out by an extra tough CHEMO diffuser. A special expansion joint compensates for the differ ent coefficients of expansion of various combinations of materi als, thereby ensuring IP65 pro tection for all models.

Safely locked up This luminaire simply clicks shut. A builtin control mecha nism gives audible and visible indication of quick closure that ensures IP65 protection.
Place screwdriver in clip and open by exerting gentle inward pressure.

In addition, closefitting, smooth catches make cleaning easier and provide protection against vandals. A screwdriver is all that is needed to open the luminaire. A chemically resistant plastic catch is available for special applications.

15 slope angle to shed dust and water All exposed visible surfaces of the luminaire have an angle of 15 or more. Together with its smooth exterior, this prevents accumula tion of dust and moisture and also makes cleaning easier. SCUBA therefore meets the recommenda tions of the German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Infor mation Technologies (VDE), and International Food Standards (IFS) and British Retail Consortium (BRC) specifications.

Optimum visual comfort Prism structures especially opti mised for T16 light sources ensure excellent technical light ing features with high light out put ratios for a moistureproof luminaire. Reduced light at shallow angles results in a minimal Unified Glare Rating (UGR) value and therefore improved glare reduc tion. The luminaires wideangle batwing pattern ensures uniform illuminance distribution.

One luminaire, four installation options Simplicity provides the basis for flexibility

Directly installed on the ceiling or wall An individual SCUBA luminaire can be quickly installed on the ceiling or wall using a ceiling bracket and Zumtobels tried andtested CLIX mechanism. The spacings and ceiling brack ets are identical to those of the FZ luminaire, thus making changeover from FZ luminaires to the innovative SCUBA lumi naire economical.

Suspended from the ceiling A chain and a special triangle are used to suspend individual luminaires from the ceiling. Both these items can be ordered as accessories.

Installed on the ceiling using trunking Proven ZX trunking is recom mended for installation as a con tinuous row system (please order additional sealing grommets as accessories). ZX trunking has one major advantage through wiring can be concealed inside the section of the trunking unit.

Suspended using trunking If there is a requirement to combine throughwiring (in the trunking) and suspension, ZX trunking is the ideal link (please order additional sealing grommets as accessories). The trunking unit is suspended using a chain, and luminaires are installed on the trunking by means of ceiling brackets (CLIX mechanism).

Exceptionally neat and tidy When it comes to wiring and installation, less is more

Less effort and fewer parts mean greater convenience and better safety during assembly and installation. The SCUBA continuous row system can

be throughwired conveniently. If trunking is installed, through wiring is led inside the trunking unit. A double insulated cable can be used for this purpose. In

case of installation without trunking, throughwiring is led in the basic housing: in lumi naires with lowloss ballasts and luminaires with electronic

ballasts and PMMA diffusers, using an extra heatresistant, halogenfree kit for throughwir ing (DV kit); in luminaires with electronic ballasts and polycar

Throughwiring for luminaires with lowloss ballasts and luminaires with electronic ballasts with PMMA diffusers:

Insert connecting cable through cable entry and secure using supplied grommet or customer-supplied cable gland.

Fix terminal block of through-wiring kit in the position provided.

Reflector holder is also the spring clip for the through-wiring kit.

Cable grips are used to fix the through-wiring kit to the basic housing.

As easy to install as ever

Unpack luminaire, open and remove bag containing all installation accessories from ceiling brackets and catches through to sealing grommets.

First fit the safety catches to the luminaires basic housing. It is then impossible to lose them.

Then fit the brackets on the ceiling. The existing drilled holes and fixings can be used if you are replacing FZ luminaires.

Then snap basic housing into brackets using tried-and-tested CLIX mechanism.

The effects of chemicals on materials No material can withstand the effects of every chemical. The effects of chemicals vary widely and take up entire volumes of chemical resistance charts. The accompanying tables on this page and overleaf therefore only provide a brief overview of fre quently encountered applica tions and chemical effects. The information given is valid under the following conditions: The chemical substance listed in the table is an element and not part of a chemical compound. The ambient temperature is 22 C.

What needs to be taken into account? A luminaire consists of several components that have various functions and are therefore made of different materials. The precise chemical compo sition of the substances to which a luminaire is exposed must be clarified with the rele vant operator. In addition, allowance must be made for the degree of saturation of the chemical substances. The ambient temperature also has an effect. Chemical reac tions take place at higher or lower temperatures, depend ing on the nature and compo sition of the substances.

SCUBA and Humanergy Balance Lighting solutions for a balance between the environment, energy and the individual

SCUBA provides evidence: It is possible to balance lighting quality and energy efficiency, even under harsh conditions.

Zumtobel defines balanced lighting solutions as those which provide ultimate lighting quality and energy efficiency. Lighting solutions that meet peoples physical and psychological needs and at the same time help to cut energy consumption. The Ergonomic Lighting Indica tor (ELI) assesses the quality components of a lighting solu tion.

Ambient lighting is the first step. A lighting solution using SCUBA meets specifications in the standards, visual performance and comfort are ensured. Investing in higher quality com ponents boosts quality but also increases investment costs. Nevertheless, the initial extra investment in electronic ballasts and T16 light sources pays for itself, thanks to savings in ener gy consumption.

Installing these innovative lumi naires has a positive impact on LENI, the Lighting Energy Numeric Indicator. The typical SCUBA lighting solution actually calculated and documented on the following page cuts energy consumption per annum and per square metre by more than 33 % from 106.26 to 71.28 kWh/m2a.
0 71.28 106.26 - 34.98 kWh/m2a = kilowatt hours per square metre and per year

This solution, which also uses 6 x 7 SCUBA luminaires, benefits from the features of an electronic ballast: Reduced energy consumption Longer lamp service life Flickerfree starting No strobing

The lighting solution with 5 x 7 SCUBA luminaires adds the advantages of the T16 light sources to those of the elec tronic ballast: A higher light output ratio and improved luminous efficiency make it possible to reduce the number of luminaires, thereby cutting energy consumption

A Visual performance: SCUBA meets all requirements regarding safety and visual per formance in the workplace. Its balanced light distribution ensures pleasantly uniform illuminance. B Appearance: With its pareddown luminaire unit, SCUBA blends unobtru sively and harmoniously into the interior design. Its soft, rounded lines reveal its func

tional strengths: the luminaire is resistant to soiling and easy to clean. C Visual comfort: Its optimised prism structure facilitates the precise direction of light and efficient glare control. The special shape of the prisms has been de signed to ensure homogeneous room illumination (batwing effect).

D Emotion: Its design styling, which is new for moistureproof luminaires, adds a pleasant atmosphere, even in impersonal rooms. E Individuality: A SCUBA lighting solution can be selectively adapted to cater for its main use thanks to three different standard diffusers made of polycarbonate or PMMA and a CHEMO diffuser.

For round-the-clock jobs under adverse conditions SCUBA with PC Industry electronic ballast

Shrugging off voltage peaks

Welding robots are extremely productive but create voltage peaks and high temperatures. SCUBA and the heavyduty PC Industry ballast are reliable part ners in environments such as these. They can withstand tran sient overvoltages of up to 4 kV.

Toughing it out in the cold

SCUBA and the PC Industry ballast are also a safe bet even where temperatures are con stantly extremely low, in cold stores for example. They ensure safe lamp starting and reliable operation, even though very high starting voltages are some times required.

The PC Industry product range was specially designed for use in harsh industrial environments such as production lines or manufacturing plants that oper ate continuously. These elec tronic ballasts have proven their

absolute reliability in operating T26 fluorescent lamps (36 W and 58 W) and T16 lamps (49 W, 54 W and 80 W). In addition, all models ensure a long service life, even under tough environ mental conditions. Available on request: SCUBA moisture-proof luminaire fitted with PC Industry ballast.

Service life twice as long

In tall factory and industrial buildings where there are pro duction lines, SCUBA and the PC Industry ballast are a per fect choice because of their long service life and reliability. The result: no interruptions in manufacturing processes, long maintenance intervals and therefore reduced maintenance costs. Besides lower labour costs for replacing luminaires and control gear, reduced expenditure on lift platforms and similar equipment has a positive effect on the accounts.

Reliable whether hot or cold

SCUBA and PC Industry bal lasts are reliable, for instance, even in railway stations where there is a need to cope with extreme temperature differences from winter to summer. Their dependability and longevity are a major advantage as the replacement of luminaires or components is often extremely costly since access is usually difficult. In such situations, a lowmaintenance electronic bal last has crucial advantages.

Outstanding PC Industry characteristics Service life of 100,000 hours at a maximum ambient tem perature of +60 C (on ballast) Service life of 50,000 hours at a maximum ambient tempera ture of +70 C (on ballast) Long lamp service life thanks to gentle warm start Automatic restart after lamp change Suitable for high mains voltage peaks up to 4 kV Constant light output inde pendent of fluctuations in mains voltage Suitable for use even at low temperatures (down to 30 C on ballast) Switchoff of defective lamps Radio interference suppres sion up to 1 GHz according to EN 55015 and RN 55022

Standards in the food processing industry

International Food Standards (IFS) and the British Retail Consortium (BRC) have laid down relevant standards for the food processing industry. These are needed primarily by international chains such as McDonalds in order to ensure minimum standards and high light room for possible improve ments at the time of annual inspections.

IFS and BRC requirements placed on lighting installations in the food processing industry: No use of glass Covered light source (enclosed luminaire) Shatterproofness (PC diffuser)

Optional enhancements: Shatterproof and chemically resistant if special cleaning agent is used (CHEMO diffuser) A light source with foil sheet ing reduces the risk of glass breakage when relamping

Amalgam lamps with longer light constancy

Amalgam technology has so far been used mainly in TCT or TCQ compact fluorescent lamps (triple or quadruple double tube); it is now also used in TCL compact fluorescent lamps (single, long double tube) and T16 tubular fluorescent lamps. Amalgam lamps are recommended for use in envi ronments where temperatures fluctuate, for example in unen closed multistorey car parks. For technical reasons, amalgam lamps are not approved for dimming using conventional dimmable electronic ballasts. Because of their slow starting, it takes roughly 2 to 3 minutes before full white light is obtained.
