Banishing Rituals

THE STAR RUBY

Facing East, in the centre, draw deep deep deep thy breath closing thy mouth with thy right forefinger prest against thy lower lip. Then dashing down the hand with a great sweep back and out, expelling forcibly thy breath, cry APO PANTOS KAKODAIMONOS. With the same forefinger touch thy forehead, and say SOI, thy member, and say O PHALLE, [The secret sense of these words is to be sought in the numeration thereof.], thy right shoulder, and say ISCHUROS, thy left shoulder, and say EUCHARISTOS; then clasp thine hands, locking the fingers, and cry IA. Advance to the East. Imagine strongly a Pentagram, aright, in thy forehead. Drawing the hands to the eyes, fling it forth, making the sign of Horus and roar THRION. Retire thine hand in the sign of Hoor-paar-Kraat. Go round to the North and repeat; but say NUIT. Go round to the West and repeat; but whisper BABALON. Go round to the South and repeat; but bellow HADIT. Completing the circle widdershins, retire to the centre and raise thy voice in the Paian, with these words I PAN, with the signs of N.O.X. Extend the arms in the form of a Tau and say low but clear: PRO MOU IUNGES OPICH MOU TELETARCHAI EPI DEXIA CHUNOCHES EPARISTERA DAIMONOS PHEG EI GAR PERI MOU O ASTR TN PENTE KAI EN TI STLI ASTR TN EX ESTXE. Repeat the Cross Qabalistic, as above, and end as thou didst begin.

The ritual

From Liber O: (i) Touching the forehead, say Ateh (Unto Thee). (ii) Touching the breast, say Malkuth (The Kingdom). (iii) Touching the right shoulder, say ve-Geburah (and the Power). (iv) Touching the left shoulder, say ve-Gedulah (and the Glory). (v) Clasping the hands upon the breast, say le-Olahm, Amen (To the Ages, Amen). (vi) Turning to the East, make a pentagram (that of Earth) with the proper weapon (usually the Wand). Say (i.e. vibrate) I H V H. (vii) Turning to the South, the same, but say A D N I. (viii) Turning to the West, the same, but say A H I H. (ix) Turning to the North, the same, but say A G L A. (Pronounce: Yeh-ho-vah, Ad-oh-nye, Eh-hee-eh, Ahg-lah). (x) Extending the arms in the form of a Cross, say: (xi) Before me Raphael; (xii) Behind me Gabriel; (xiii) On my right hand Michael. (xiv) On my left hand Auriel; (xv) For about me flames the Pentagram, (xvi) And in the Column stands the six-rayed Star. (xvii-xxi) Repeat (i) to (v), the "Qabalistic Cross." In certain texts after the publication of Liber O, the word "Aiwass" and a touch to the breast or solar plexus is added to the Qabalistic Cross.

Greater Ritual of the Pentagram

The ritual
The following is a basic interpretation of the ritual from "Liber O" in Magick, Book 4: 1. Begin with the "Qabalistic Cross": o Touch forehead and say Ateh (to thee) o Touch heart and say Malkuth (the kingdom) o Touch right shoulder and say ve-Geburah (and the power) o Touch left shoulder and say ve-Gedulah (and the glory) o Clasping the hands upon the breast, say le-Olahm, Amen (To the Ages, Amen). 2. Face East. Make the invoking pentagram of Spirit (Active) and vibrate A H I H (Eh-heeeh). 3. Make the Signs of the Portal (the Rending and Closing of the Veil) 4. Make the invoking pentagram of Air and vibrate: Y H V H (Ye-ho-vah) 5. Give the Sign of Air 6. Move deosil (clockwise) to the South and make the invoking pentagram of Spirit (Active) and vibrate A H I H (Eh-hee-eh). 7. Make the Signs of the Portal (the Rending and Closing of the Veil) 8. Make the invoking pentagram of Fire and vibrate: A L H I M (El-oh-heem) 9. Give the Sign of Fire 10. Move to the West. Make the invoking pentagram of Spirit (Passive) and vibrate A G L A (Ah-glah) 11. Make the Signs of the Portal (the Rending and Closing of the Veil) 12. Make the invoking pentagram of Water and vibrate: E L (ell) 13. Give the Sign of Water 14. Carry point to the North. Make the invoking pentagram of Spirit (Passive) and vibrate A G L A (Ah-glah) 15. Make the Signs of the Portal (the Rending and Closing of the Veil) 16. Make the invoking pentagram of Earth and vibrate: A D N I (Ad-oh-nye) 17. Give the Sign of Earth 18. Return to the East and end with "Qabalistic Cross" as in (1) above

Lesser Ritual of the Hexagram

The ritual
From "Liber O" in Magick, Book 4: This ritual is to be performed after the "Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram". (i) Stand upright, feet together, left arm at side, right across body, holding the wand or

other weapon upright in the median line. Then face East and say: (ii) I.N.R.I. Yod. Nun. Resh. Yod. Virgo, Isis, Mighty Mother. Scorpio, Apophis, Destroyer. Sol, Osiris, Slain and Risen. Isis, Apophis, Osiris, IAO. (iii) Extend the arms in the form of a cross, and say: "The Sign of Osiris Slain." (iv) Raise the right arm to point upwards, keeping the elbow square, and lower the left arm to point downwards, keeping the elbow square, while turning the head over the left shoulder looking down so that the eyes follow the left forearm, and say, "The Sign of the Mourning of Isis." (v) Raise the arms at an angle of sixty degrees to each other above the head, which is thrown back, and say, "The Sign of Apophis and Typhon." (vi) Cross the arms on the breast, and bow the head and say, "The Sign of Osiris Risen." (vii) Extend the arms again as in (iii) and cross them again as in (vi) saying: "L.V.X., Lux, the Light of the Cross".

(viii) With the magical weapon trace the Hexagram of Fire in the East, saying, "ARARITA". This Word consists of the initials of a sentence which means "One is His Beginning: One is His Individuality: His Permutation is One." This hexagram consists of two equilateral triangles, both apices pointed upwards. Begin at the top of the upper triangle and trace it in a dextro-rotary direction. The top of the lower triangle should coincide with the central point of the upper triangle.

(ix) Trace the Hexagram of Earth in the South, saying "ARARITA". This Hexagram has the apex of the lower triangle pointing downwards, and it should be capable of inscription in a circle.

(x) Trace the Hexagram of Air in the West, saying "ARARITA".

This Hexagram is like that of Earth; but the bases of the triangles coincide, forming a diamond.

(xi) Trace the hexagram of Water in the North, saying "ARARITA". This hexagram has the lower triangle placed above the upper, so that their apices coincide.

(xii) Repeat (i-vii)

Visualizing the Hexagrams

Liber O provides no specifics on the colors of the hexagrams drawn in this ritual. One possibility is to use a set of four colors attributed to the elements (such as red, green, yellow, and blue), assigning each to the appropriate hexagram. Another option is to consistently employ the color scheme called the "Hexagram of Nature," in which the ascending triangle is red, and the descending triangle is blue. Yet another approach would be to use the Hexagram of Magick, specified as the "Holy Hexagram" in chapter 69 of The Book of Lies and Crowley's comment to it. In that hexagram, the upwardpointing triangle is blue, representing the purity of aspiration in the magician. The downwardpointing triangle is red, to symbolize the inspiration from the Genius or Holy Guardian Angel.

The Blue Topaz Ritual

This section is designated an Invariant Section under the terms of the GNU FDL.

Let the magician, facing east, in the center of the circle, formulate the cross using the wand mudra, as follows: touching forehead, vibrate: ABRAHADABRA; pointing to earth, vibrate: NUBTI; to the right shoulder, vibrate: THELEMA; to the left shoulder, vibrate: AGAPE; clasping his hands, vibrate: NEMA. Let him then formulate the circle, imagining strongly a pentagram, aright, on his forehead. Let him fling it forth, to each quarter in turn, making the sign of Horus, and vibrating the appropriate name. After each, let him retire his hand in the sign of Silence. to the east: HERU; to the north: NU; to the west: MAAT; to the south: HAD.

Let him then, facing east, invoke the Angel of the Aeon, giving the signs of Nu (sweeping the arms from the sides up into the position of Isis Rejoicing), Maat (bringing the heels of the hands together with the fingers outspread at the throat), Heru (palms cupped together at chest), and Had (for men, the ithyphallic sign of Min; for women, the sign of the goddess Auramoth). This is to be done in a single motion, while vibrating the name: HE-RU-RA-HA ! Let him then invoke the guardians of the quarters, and following the "AHA" let him give the Sign of Wisdom (bringing the hands together as if holding a cup, raise the cup heavenward as if saluting the sky, slowly bring the hands toward the lips as if taking a sip from the cup, while taking one step backwards): Before me, HERU-MACHIS Behind me, HERU-AMOUN To my right, HERU-MENTU To my left, HERU-KHONSU AHA ! Within me flames the Star of Five, the star of Silence and of Strength, And in the midst, the Sphere of Six, where the sun of midnight is ever the son. Let him complete the ritual, again formulating the cross using the wand mudra, as follows: touching forehead, vibrate: ABRAHADABRA; pointing to earth, vibrate: IPSOS; to the right shoulder, vibrate: THELEMA; to the left shoulder, vibrate: AGAPE; clasping his hands, vibrate: SUNODEA.
