Guiding Rules and Evaluation Parameters


SOLO EVENTS

MUSIC
M1. CLASSICAL VOCAL SOLO

Film songs are not allowed.


Judgment will be based on taal, selection of raaga, composition and general impression
CLASSICAL INSTRUMENTAL SOLO(PERCUSSION)

M2.

Participant must bring their own instrument


Time for stage/ Instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes

Judgment will be based on taal, rythm, composition and general impression.


CLASSICAL INSTRUMENTAL SOLO (NON PERCUSSION)

M3.

Participant must bring their own instrument Casio not allowed


Time for stage/ Instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes

Judgment will be based on qualities like Swara, taal, selection of raga, composition and general impression
LIGHT VOCAL SOLO

M4.

Only non-film songs /geet/ghazal/shabad/bhajan can be presented. Karaoke is not allowed in final rounds.

M5.

WESTERN VOCAL SOLO

Language of song should only be English.


Time for Stage/ Instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes

Judgment will be based on qualities like rhythm, coordination and general impression.

DANCE
106. CLASSICAL DANCE SOLO

CDs/DVDs (No Audio Cassettes) are allowed for the purpose of music. Classical dance based on films are not allowed.
Three copies of a brief note on the description of dance story involved in it, if any, and of the accompanying song, with its meaning in Hindi or English must be submitted at the time of registration.

Judgment will be based on qualities like rhythm, costumes, footwork and general impression.

LITERATURE
L1.
QUIZ

There will be written preliminary round. Final round will be oral with audio visual question. The specific rules regarding evaluation procedure and types of round will be given before actual start of event. L2. ELOCUTION (HINDI) Medium of expression will be only Hindi and NO English words should be used. Topic will be announced 24 hours in advance. The item can be prose/poetry but not a song. Paper reading is not allowed. The sequence of speakers may be decided by
a draw of lots

Judgment will be based on content and database, language and grammar, pronunciation and presentation etc.

L3.

DEBATE (HINDI) Participant will speak in Hindi only and no English words

should be used. Participant may speak in FOR or AGAINST the motion. Paper reading is not allowed. Topic will be announced 24 hour in advance. Judgment will be based on qualities like content and database, language and grammar, pronunciation, body language and presentation etc

L4.

ELOCUTION (ENGLISH) Medium of expression will be only English and no Hindi

words should be used. Other conditions will be same as in Elocution (Hindi). L5. DEBATE (ENGLISH) Person will speak in English only and no Hindi words should be used. Other conditions will be same as in Debate (Hindi)

L6.

ELOCUTION (SANSKRIT) Medium of expression will be only SANSKRIT and no

Hindi words should be used. Other conditions will be same as in Elocution (Hindi). L7. DEBATE (SANSKRIT) Person will speak in SANSKRIT only and no Hindi words should be used. Other conditions will be same as in Debate (Hindi)

TURN COATS

THEATRE T1.
o o o o MIMICRY

Participants may mimic sound of machines, speech of well known persons, animals or sounds heard in nature. It should be necessarily a cultured and pleasant piece of art. Medium of expression can be Hindi or English or both. Judgment will based on qualities like variety of sound and voices imitated and presentation

T2.

MONO ACTING Use of stage property is allowed and no extra time will be

given for setting stage. Presence of only one person on stage is allowed and voice of no human from background is allowed. Use of music is permitted. Judgment will be based on qualities like theme, acting, music and overall impression.

CINEMATICS*

C1. FILM SONG SOLO


No remix songs are permitted. Participants can use karaoke mode DVDs/CDs (No Audio Cassettes). Accompanists will be available only in final round.

C2. FILM DANCE SOLO


Dance based on Remixes are permitted. Participant has to bring his/her own DVDs/CDs (No Audio Cassettes). Judgment will be based on qualities like costumes, movement and expression. Dance based on classical film songs are not permitted.

FINE ARTS F1.


ON THE SPOT PAINTING It will be conducted on the spot and participant will

need to do painting on the subject given by the in-charge. Size of the paper will be 12 18 inch paper. Painting can be done by oil, water, poster or pastel colour. Only paper will be provided. Participants will have to bring their own paint and brush.

No wording except caption will be allowed

F2. COLLAGE
Item will be conducted on the spot on the given topic on 2515 inch paper. o Participants must bring their own scissors, pasting and other material required. o Collage has to be prepared from old magazines. Sheet paper will be provided. o Topic will be given 48 hours in advance. o Time limit will be provided to participants.

F3. POSTER MAKING

It will be conducted on the spot and participants are required to do poster making on the subject given by incharge. Participant must bring their own material. Only one sheet paper (12 18 inches) will be provided.

F4. SKETCHING

Participant should bring their own material. Theme will be given on the spot. Only one sheet paper (12 18 inches) will be provided. Topic will be given on the spot Participant must bring their own materials. Only one sheet paper (12 18 inches) will be provided.

F5. CARTOONING

Participant must bring their own materials. Only one of the medium shall be used poster color or flower petals or saw dust or pulses or coloured rices. o Rangoli should be prepared with in space provided by incharge. MEHANDI Participants must bring their own materials.

. ON THE SPOT PHOTOGRAPHY The participant has to bring his/her own Digital Camera of not more than 12 megapixels. The digital camera should have a memory card which will be formatted by the judges before the commencement of the contest. The time limit will be two hours. The participant has to capture 5 photographs on the Theme announced on the spot by the judges. No Mixing, Matching, Morphing of the photo graph will be permitted. Photo enhancing software such as Photoshop, Coral, etc. are not permitted. The organisers will have all rights for the use of these pictures as and when they deem fit. Digital images will be evaluated on the basis on Impact, Composition, Technical Quality, Suitability for the specific Theme.

GROUP EVENTS
MUSIC
M6. GROUP SONG INDIAN
Songs should be taken from Indian songs which can be in regional language or Sanskrit. No film songs are allowed. A team has to present two songs out of which one should be patriotic.

M7. WESTERN GROUP SONG


Language should only be English. Judgment will be based on qualities of singing only and not on costume make up or actions of team.

DANCE
D3. FOLK / TRIBAL DANCE
Dance can either be primitive or a folk dance (Indian one) but not a classical one. Tracks from films having folk/tribal songs are not allowed.
Three copies of a brief note giving the theme and the text of song if any, is to be submitted before the start of the event. Time for sets/ Instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes. Judgment will be based on rhythm, expression,

SHORT PLAYS

Participating team shall bring their own set/stage property, make up material etc. General furnitures may be provided.
Use of make-up, drapery and background music is allowed

Maximum time to set the stage will be 5 minutes per team which will be in addition to the 30 minutes provided.
Participating team should submit three copies of the synopsis of the theme of the play before the play,

T6. SKIT Use of makeup and background is allowed, no personal remarks aspersions, character assassination etc will be allowed. Vulgarity in presentation should be avoided. Only innocent satire or humour is expected.

MIME o No human voice on stage or in background is allowed. Music on CDs/

*events are not the Spandan(Inter faculty Youth Festival of Banaras Hindu University) events, they are special events. Overacting, Vulgarity and any kind of misconduct are not permissible at any cost, participant observed to be involved in such conduct will be disqualified and strict action will be taken against him/her.
