The machete, over the last three centuries, has proven to be the ultimate outdoor and survival tool. It will cut, chop, slash, hack, split, scrape, scoop, hammer, dig, crush, carve, whittle, crack or smash just about anything you can put in front of it. The machete also makes a deadly improvised weapon. It can be used to kill both fish and game and will gut, scale, filet, skin, quarter, and butcher them for the table as well. And when you look at its meager cost, it's got to be one of the best bargains for hard earned cash in the world. In fact it's so cheap and useful that even the poorest peasant in South America or tribesman in Africa invariably owns one and counts on it as one of his most precious possessions.
This blade is made out of 1055 Carbon Steel with a tough spring temper and are surfaced with a black, baked-on anti-rust finish. Uploader Comments ( QuietBearr ) well what "Real Machete" do you recommend for me & not an axe there kinda old I want something new, fun, & looks cool please understand where im coming from. Also I was interested with the cold steel machetes because of the fact of the utilities & durability

They are not durable at all, especially going through hard wood. 5 mins and the edge was destroyed. They have practically no weight cause they are so thin so they dont make good choppers either. Machetes are not for splitting wood, they are more for clearing brush. If you must have something that looks cool, get a knife with a large blade, 9" or more and you will have much better luck. Start with the ESEE Junglas, or the Ontario RD 9 or 10.

well what cold steel machete do you recommend i need something that will cut wood for a fire while camping
omegaG100 2 years ago
I dont recommend a cold steel machete, I would get a real one. (Or an axe which is designed to cut wood, likely will be much better and easier than a machete, which will really only look cool)

i dont recomend this machete at all i baught two yesterday an the cutting edge is already folding over and chipping on both,
redneckbigboy01 2 years ago
Me neither, you will see why in the future, but the short version = 2 mins, one juniper bush, and the end result was one seriously damaged edge. POS

More than I would ever know? Do I ask or do you want me to know? I wouldn't want that thin machete in my neck .It's still dangerous enough. And it's good enough for light brush. No worries.

For trees ..let's use an axe.. Sudan is a mess. That's for sure.War.Nice.Not. Why are you in that inferno anyway.

you mentioned sword im speaking of machetes. I can tell you alot about Sudan, more than you would ever know. Kaskara sword is used throughout west africa namely by Hausas. A sword isnt a machete just like a lance isnt a spear. All im saying if you jungle trek with that machete you will have problems, its too light and the blades not blunt.

You should also know that most stabbings are done with very thin kitchen ,chefs knives. Hack with a thin machete into someone arms and/or neck. Ill hear you when you got more experience with that . Thin machetes work less tiring on cutting brush than thick heavy ones.Plus they are faster....

Your opinion is just that, One opinion. And if you have 20 years of experience you should have known better by now ..A blade should be blunt and heavy?...Come on man.I can tell you that I could lop a head half off if not totally with that Condor Bolo machete. And wooden handles. They crack and break much easier than PP. It is weak compared to PP.

Many Chinese military swords were historically very thin. Sudanese kaskara swords, too. And don't even get me started on the Indian urumi...have you noticed the swords that bull fighters dispatch bulls with? They are so thin that they actually bend slightly under their own weight when poised for the thrust. I have also seen Chinese Wushu spring steel swords that are extremely thin, but also will decapitate you if struck by one. Please dont try to make your experience sound as the truth .

How long have you spent jungle trekking? Ive over the last 2 decades trekked over 625 miles in virgin jungle on traditional expidetions. Ive used an array of tools including many western variants like combat survival knives etc. I can assure you a thin blade will not cut paths through virgin jungle, it will be pitiful against a wild beast. A blade should be blunt/heavy, The reasons simple it must act as a sword and an axe at the same time. This ensures less effort more power.

Oh really so the Imacasa/Condor machetes with polypropylene handles are not good? Well well what do you know.. I slightly disagree though.
555Nato in reply to sexymalcom1970 (Show the comment) 3 months ago
thats a poor machete dont get it very shit. The best machetes are the african variant they can cut down trees. Machetes should be blunted, have wooden handles. If you take this to the jungle you will struggle.
