Dr. A. Rajender Reddy M.D (Hom) Professor. H.O.D. Dept. of Organon & Philosophy J.S.P.S Govt. Homoeopathic Medical college Ramanthapur, Hyderabad.

POSOLOGY
Posos means, How much (Greek) Posology:- Science or doctrine of dosage.

POSOLOGY
In homoeopathy three elements are essential or equally important.

Principle The remedy The dose

POSOLOGY
If a homoeopathic physician limiting him to one or two potencies he is limiting his own usefulness and depriving his patient of valuable means of relief and cure.

POSOLOGY
Any potency may be required in any case.

POSOLOGY
Homoeopathic doctrine of dosage, like the law of cure was based upon the discovery of the opposite action of large and small doses of medicine. e.g ipecac, opium

POSOLOGY
A well selected remedy may fail utterly or even do injury because of wrong dosage. Various doses of medicines will have different action.

POSOLOGY
Different action of various doses of medicine 1)Toxicological action 2)Physiological action 3)Therapeutic action

PHYSIOLOGICAL ACTION
Physiological action- Is produced by physiological dose or material dose: means a dose of a drug empirically selected of sufficient quantity and strength to produce a definite pre determined effect or group of symptoms. practically it amount to the maximum dose consistent with safety.

PHYSIOLOGICAL ACTION
Not therapeutic or curative action It is exactly opposite of curative action Never employed in homoeopathic practice Purpose to produce drug symptoms pathogen tic symptoms

TOXICOLOGICAL ACTION
Toxicological dose-A dose of a drug which can produce symptoms and cause permanent changes, endangers life, practically it amounts to the maximum dose, in consistent without safety.

THERAPEUTIC ACTION
Therapeutic dose-Means curative, healing alleviating, which is exactly opposite to the pathogen tic action.

POSOLOGY
The action of the drug depends Size and strength of the dose The susceptibility of the patient Principle upon which it is given

POSOLOGY
In homoeopathy a drug is never given for its pathogen tic action. Homoeopathic cure is obtained without suffering without producing any drug symptoms by giving sub physiological or sub pathogen tic dose.

POSOLOGY
In homoeopathy therapeutic dose must be capable of producing a slight temporary aggravation or intensification of existing symptoms and never to produce new symptoms.

POSOLOGY
Homoeopathic drug act identical tracts involved in the disease process. In a manner similar to the action of the disease producing cause it self.

POSOLOGY
Similar homoeopathic drug administered in disease little or no resistance is encountered. Sub physiological dose, as dose so small is required.

POSOLOGY
It acts 1)Development of special virtues in medicine by a peculiar process of preparation or potentization. 2)The increased susceptibility to medicinal impression produced by disease. 3)The selection of homoeopathic similar remedy.

POSOLOGY
Repeat ion-($245to251) Repeat the dose only when improvement ceases. Perceptible improvement continued either in acute or in chronic disease not to repeat.

POSOLOGY
Repeat every dose deviate some what from the preceding and following.

POSOLOGY-choosing potency.
Any curable disease may be cured by any potency, when the indicated remedy is administered but cure may be much accelerated by selecting the potency or dose appropriate to the individual case.

POSOLOGY-choosing potency
Choosing the potency depends on I) Susceptibility of the patient A) more the symptom similarity higher the susceptibility higher the potency. B)1. age, 2. constitution and temperament, 3. habit & environment, 4. pathological condition.

POSOLOGY-choosing potency.
2)seat of the diseasefunctional/ organic Vital organs/peripheral organs

POSOLOGY-choosing potency.
3) Nature and intensitymalignant and rapidly fatal.
4) Stage and durationprimary symptoms secondary symptoms 5) Previous treatment.

ACTION OF REMEDY
Action of the remedy is known by change in symptoms of the patient. By producing new symptoms < of symptoms > of symptoms Change in the order and direction of symptoms

Law of dosage
