My place of work is currently being audited by an external company. In the quality gurus course, it says that auditors should always try to relate to the auditee and this will in turn lead to a smoother running of the audit process. The auditors that we have here are not doing anything to put anyone at ease and are constantly trying to show that they have authority. Why do they do this?

Very simple, they are trying to show they are the Auditors with all the powers whereas it is not so as per the standard procedures instead they should follow all the general standards operating procedures (SOP) required while performing an Audit. As an Auditee you should approach them and explain them with documentary proof to comply with the SOP to have a balanced Audit enabling both the parties to complete the Audit smoothly.

Well to err is human The point you have raised is no doubt a valid one but it will be wrong to generalize it. Now it is human tendency to flaunt power when someone gets it. The need of conformance and a clean report is of your company and they are the people who will provide your company the clean chit thus there is a very evident power imbalance. However their action is not acceptable but the best way as i see it is not to confront them, rather cooperate and treat them nice. They are humans after all and would easily loose to respect, affection and care.

During our audit the management took all the necessary precautions but I must appreciate the auditors for bringing out the flaunts in our manufacturing process. they knew in few instants only that method given in bmr's are not validated and each person carries out work according to his strength. though we were embarrassed when the used loud to point out our mistakes in documentation. but the management also got a good lesson in the end.

One thing is wrong... either the auditing agent/organization have sent to your comapny in-experienced and under-trained auditors... i have been an auditee for a number of times and i was lucky enough to have been dealing with well trained auditors... goodluck and hope these auditors come to their senses that they are not to police during audits...

Hi Gina, First and foremost, I cannot answer your answer directly on your WHY?. I also cannot judge the style of the hired auditors from an external company. I believe quality gurus is correct to try to relate to the auditee for a smoother auditing process BUT for me it should not be always, it depends on the degree of potential problems. One thing I know is that once the process owner requested for an external audit, they feel that there is some thing wrong going on. Just like this situation, we don't know and what is the extent of instruction given by the process owner to the hired auditors how extensive they should perform the audit. We don't know how big in terms of volume, amount, etc is at stakes which may affect the attitude of an auditor in terms of personal projection to the auditee or maybe the auditee itself got nervous because of this external auditing and think so much from his/ her side for some reasons... or both... I don't know. Dennis

Hi Dennis, I have read through a number of responses, but I think I agree with your submission. I am currently auditing a client on preventing maintenance schedules at differently locations belonging to the same company. Our first site of call, the PM crew were very friendly and co operative. We could not help than to be nice and very professional and ethic abiding (Professional Ethics code compliance), The next site, we met people who either felt the process was to find fault so decided to be uncooperative. Humanly, it will be quite difficult for the the Auditors under discussion here (from Gina's office) to behave the way she describe them if the audittee is very friendly and compromising. Non the less, those auditors should be professional and courteous to command respect and not demand it. Thanks Denis.

What is the basic objective of audit? Why your company have invited the auditors? And what is the ultimate objective of auditors? Answer to all these question is same that "to improve the quality of product, make the product defect free, to ensure the preventive measures, establish the worth of your product in the market, secure the goodwill for your company and earn more profits through the satisfied customers. By keeping in view the above answer you must keep cool and co-operate with auditors, because they are working to help you and your company to achieve your objectives. They are struggling to achieve the perfection in your system and output product. they are your well wisher not the enemy. Secondly they are helping you to have error free products. They are not workig to ease you. Also keep in mind that zero defect, good will and satisfied customers are secured after a lot of hard work. To achieve the ultimate goal you must always welcome the criticism of auditors with open heart. Be optimistic towards the auditors.

It is unfortunately part of the human condition, combined with poor training for the auditor. Often people placed in positions of authority take on an attitude of superiority, and abuse the communication process. I have known managers who were required to do employee evaluations who saw the only opportunity as one to criticize poor performance, without regard to the more important goals of employee reviews. The result was a failure to fully recognize areas

performance, without regard to the more important goals of employee reviews. The result was a failure to fully recognize areas of excellent (or even adequate performance) and a complete failure to use the process to motivate. A conversation with the auditor during a daily audit meeting may sway his opinion of the importance of equal, cooperative and respectful communication. One of my personal tenets is Effective communication depends on recognizing and filtering out noise. Don't let the Auditor's attitude (noise) impair your ability to contribute to the process. Frame your role in your own mind as providing information to the Auditor, and allow him to do his job, despite his apparent lack of understanding of the value of communication in the role. Failing these efforts, if you feel the process has been affected by this, my recommendation would be to memo the "client" (ie. your management) with your balanced view of the audit process, including both the performance of the audit (ie. the expectations of whether the audit will identify areas of compliance and improvement) as well as the poor attitude of the audit personnel and the expected impact on a successful audit.

Hello Gina, I think that you have received excellent advice from the others in this thread. My questions would be have you been audited prior to this audit and if so how does this audit (auditors) compare ? If this is your first time being audited it could be possible that the auditors actions are just being misunderstood. Is this external company someone that your company has hired for this audit ? If so you could request that different auditors be sent next time. Also it has been my experience that you can contact the external auditing company and voice your concerns about the audit and the auditors. I have done that once in the past because of personality conflict with the assigned auditor and my executive management. I only used this as a last resort but was pleased with the response that I received. The best method I have found is open communication with the auditor, sometimes the auditor is not aware of how he/she might be perceived by those being audited so one of my roles as the management representative was to be sure that the audit was going smooth and to address any problems that I might observe with all parties involved. I hope that this might help. Good luck and let us know how everything turned out your company. tlonkey

Being an auditee....you should feel great!!!!.....

Let the auditors bombard you with questions.answer them patientlyshow them how accurately how have completed all your tasks.. ..an audit is an actual test of your understanding of job, systems and procedures. So lets not focus on the attitude of the auditors.lets see it as an kaizen for improvement.A tool which can make you better. Instead of cribbing during the audit and thinking of the auditors, face it with a great SMILE and happiness

Unfortunately this is a behaviour ths is following from many auditors. they thing that they are above you and they can do what ever they want. They dont understant the real meaning of doing an inspection. In my oppinion what ever are you doing nothing is gonna change. Eventhough not all of the auditow behave like this and that is something possive offcource.

I agree totally it sounds like it is a possible lack of training as well as communication gap with over confidence....but it can be handle in a professional way. If I may ask way the auditor called in to better the company with a certificate such as SQF or was this a secondary audit which the client or yourself ask for the audit to be done to check for overall process. Was a internal audit done or is that a requirement for your company at the processing plant that I am employed at we made it a requirement that quality personal and production personal as well as upper management is required to choose one person a month out of these area to do a internal audit for RCI purposes for the company so rapid continous improvement can be done . Lack of proper training of the auditors may be a major cause and the type of audit being conducted. Are they from the regulatory unit or invited by company? You need to ensure that the documents required are updated and your processes are as per SOPs in use.

In my opinion we should feel that ann Auditor comes to im prove us and we should not take NCR's as a negative remark infact NCR are the key which help to improve our system and during every audit getting some minor NCR's is good, some time Auditor doesnot behave as a person who comes to make a system better and he audit with a negative approach this is very wrong because if all company loose the certification it is the consumer who will suffer so an Auditor should work in such a manner as if he comes to improve the organisation system and should: 1. 2. 3. 4. Interview with key staff in the process. Reality checks at all call centres, customer access points, council buildings, review of the websites review of documentation.

Internal Auditor: .being an auditee

Having gone through the posts, I understand that audit needs to be treated as a support activity to the organization. We have read in the books "Auditors are watch dogs not the blood hounds". Auditors tests the operations on the basis of documented criterion, analyse the reasons for the non conformity, makes assessment for the overall effect of the non compliance on the busiess of the enterprise and finally makes a recommendation to rectify the non compliances. In the whole process the auditee is expected to extentend cooperation to the auditor in performing their assigned tasks. I have been in both the positions -auditor and auditee, I feel that there needs to be transperency in the responses presented from both the sides. Yes ofcourse auditors need to be polite and make the auditee comfortable and create a coordial atmosphere for the smmoth conduct of the audit. If there is nothing malafied, the auditee should not feel worried or thretened any more.

Hi All, As an auditee there are few things which a indivual should keep in mind: 1) Understand the purpose of the Audit 2) Should be able to justify the points mentioned in the documents presented for audit. 3) Should document what is being done and work on things which are documented. 4) If there is any NC given by the Auditor should be able to defend their stance or should be ready to over come the NC into compliance within short time.

The auditors are trying to bring to your attention that they are auditing you that they have all the powers over you the client of either to give a positive or a negative report about your company and by doing so they are trying to impart some fear in what soever you the clients are doing, therefore, it is high time you approached them and express to them your disregard and the uncomfortabilities they are causing that is very much affecting the smooth running of your company. I urge them to follow there professional ethics and do the right thing at the right time.

I think that's because many people just get crazy with power. Being an auditor is being at the highest place in an organigram, and if they are not trained well they probably get excited about it? anyway this way of conducting an audit will not give good results, they won't be objective (as in the course it is said)

Dear All In the auditting their are two side. One is the Auditor who is conducting the Audit. The another one is the Auditee to whom the Auditor is Auditting. Each one have their own duties and the responsibilities. As an Auditee we have to coordinate and cooperate with the Audittor. What are the documents that we are maintaining as per the Standerd Operating Procedure we have to submit that alls to the audittor. That will help the Auditor to do the Audit smoothly.

Hi Ginna Summers, I want to highlight few points that will help to creat good relation between AUDITEE and AUDITOR.This is happen when Auditors are very qualified, optimistic, and well groom. During auditing when they dont find, any responsible employee to answer their question, resources in order to ensure an effective and effecient audit process, cant access to the facilities and evidential material, and auditee hesitate to cooperate, they become disappoint and agressive. During audit, auditee should inform to relevant employees about the objectives and scope of the audit, and appoint responsible employees to meet with the auditors, provide all resources needed for the audit team in order to ensure an effective and efficient audit process, access to the facilities and evidential material as requested by the auditors, and co-operate with the auditors to permit the objectives to be achieved, and at last, auditee should determine and initiate corrective actions based on the audit report. These are few solutions to make good relation between them.

Auditors always want to show that they are in control but you should always show them that you in charge by being well prepared. I was an auditee in one of our projects and in the beginning the relation between me and the auditor was tense and not very cordial. When challenged, the natural reaction is to be protective and defensive. If the auditor is inpatient, this can lead to antagonism and a very hostile relation. It is important that the audtee sees the audit exercise as a learning exercise towards quality and excellence. My relationship with the auditor changed positively towards the end and in subsequent audit visits. In the end we both benefitted and above all enjoyed it. The experience I have for being an auditee helps me greatly in taking up responsibility as an internal auditor for some scientific projects in our institution which has led to excellence and helped me in my career development.

Unfortunately, being an auditor is being in a position of power to some extent. Let's face it, their mandate is to discover your weaknesses or errors, no matter how the audit process is sugar coated. If they don't find anything wrong, it's perceived that they didn't look hard enough because as we all know, no one is perfect and no system fool-proof. Perhaps our feeling of unease when being audited doesn't necessarily come from their actions but our own worries of knowing they WILL find something to cite you with. Just keep an open mind that they are there to do a job and while they should be pleasant and courteous, they are diffinitely not there to stroke your ego, they are there to evaluate your system and make sure it's adequate and effective. Nothing else. Once you tell yourself that it's not personal, and the end goal is to improve your system, then the audit process is so intimidating anymore.

Hello Gina: I like many others that have responded to your concern can not answer why some people act the way they do. My only advise to you is to keep in mind the old saying "Two wrongs don't make a right". As an auditee do your part to be professional and do your job in a way that no negative comments can be made against you. I have been audited several times and I can honesty say I have not encountered an unpleasant auditor yet. They have all been pleasent and worked very hard to put me at ease .

Auditors seem to be bias and intimate the auditee's. By their impartial, un-biased attitude, they must avoid conflict of interest situations, as that would prejudice his/her ability to perform the duties objectively. Although they seem to be intimating, they are just doing their job. Good luck in your audit!

Being an auditee, can be liken to be put through a examination. at time it can interesting that when you are prepared for the audit and all the checklist is well taken care off. but where the company/person/department is not prepared, it is always not interesting. So it is function level of the preparation and the auditor's mindset

And if all else fails call for your lead or supervisor for help with the auditor. It works.some time they will back down and look at the way they are handling the audit and the auditee.

Anyway it is not in your hand, take it easy and concentrate for the closure of findings(if any). Meanwhile I am taking it granted you(auditee) have shown positive attitude & extended cooperation during the audit process. Requesting all my fellow forum members to take note of the above.

Well , either you have been faced by some in experience auditors or the external auditors are of the point that they may have good audit through their rude attitude. This practice is alltogather wrong as in the end they will have to cut the sorry figure . As i have a very strong experience that good relations with the auditee will expose his/her weekness automaically.

Yes, The External Auditors have authority by virtue of trust from the customer/ end users of your products or services. However they can irritate, show negative attitude or even be un proffessional or are inexperienced than Auditee. Another scenario may be that the Auditee is ill prepared for the Audit and is trying to cover weaknesses. Or it can be that the Auditee did not build capacity of all personnel in the unit and fears that the Auditor may find out anomalies based on the questions being asked. Also remember Auditors are paid to be thorough and look for any hint of non compliance. So what do you do as an Auditee? Prepare well in advance; say what you and do what you say, regulary update yourself on applicable standard requirements Make your self and Auditor comfortable Have many of your personnel able to guide the Auditor around Make the Auditor aware of any safety and or cultural issues at the site Answer Auditor's queries as honestly as possible. Engage the Auditor as you go along making sure you do not digress or bring in irrelevant conversations to the Audit agenda. Time to allow questioning of staff and checking by Auditor of actual operations. Do not try to coach or guide personnel using other language, dialects or parables. You are entitled toreceive the Audit agenda during the Entry meeting, constant updates on the progress of the audit, notes during the exit meeting and Audit report at close out which takes care of your Corrective Actions and Preventive Actions and or Observations For Improvement. If you have particular concern about the Auditors behaviour, you can raise and quote specific incidences that are out of the scope of the Audit. Behavioural issues can also be raised with the Lead Auditor and If it is the Lead Auditor having been out of order memo the Certifying body. If nothing happens for a change for the better you can ask for a change of Auditors or the change of Certying body. However remember that information is shared and if you are just bad mouthing the Auditor(s) or Certifying body, word will get around.

Internal Auditor: .being an auditee

The auditors probably have a different strategy of approach, and they are still focused to the right goal. Working to a good relationship with an auditee can result in improving the audit process, but in some cases it can decrease auditor's objectiveness, and that's what they try to avoid.

auditor have a very high responsibility.they have to make the operations under check and ensure their performance and for that they can come up with strict behavior or may be soft behavior but ideally it is recommended to come up with good and respectable behavior which can help bringing up the non conformance but if the people are rigid and not opening up then they need to come up with harsh and tough attitude to make the job done.

It is totally clear that the auditor should be professional person in how dealing with the auditee. In spite of they are authorities they should know how can they bring benefit from the audit ,from my point of view this will not happened unless they deal with respectful and cooperative manner taking into account that sometimes the auditor need to press during auditing ,BUT, not all the times and with all guys.

It is unfortunate and unprofessional for the auditor to act in this manner. Although it would be good to approach the auditor(s) about his/her approach, I don't think I would do anything during the audit in fear that he/ she may not receive the feedback well and affect (negatively) the overall outcome of the audit results. I would ensure that I didn't get the same auditor the next time and possibly even change to a different auditing company.

They want to stick to their title of "Auditor" in other words, they are aauditing you and whatever they say ( even if they are wrong and not that familiar with your processing area) is what counts. They want to let you know that they have the power to make you change things in your area and you have to follow them. If all procedures are being followed correctly then there's nothing you should worry about. You know your operations better and how you should be running things, Providing them with the required procedures and records to back up your answers is all that matters.

I have only experienced on one occasion where the auditor seemed to be driven to put the auditees on the defensive. As background, they appeared to be bringing personal issues into the audit and found a need to dominate the process, rather than perform their job in a friendly, construction manner. In this type of situation, I find it is best to remain calm, and to answer questions based solely on your job function and associated SOPs. By remaining calm, you can reset the tone of the audit.

Sometimes this is related to their individual personalities, or sometimes they have preconceived ideas about your organization. Rememer, auditors are only human, so it may just be that they feel very stressed and over worked and do not even realize how they are coming across. Just remain professional and helpful, and do the best you can to get through it.

As an Auditee you could always have to control of your audit. If this ever happens to you again refer to the auditor's check list and always keep them between the already set boundaris.

Internal Auditor: .being an auditee

I once had an internal evaluation of the records system, i asked the auditor to let me keep a log of all the documents(company property) that he/she was making and i was told that they were too many documents, somewhat preventing me of keeping track of the copied documents that were later going to be taken out of the companies record system. This conflict had a very simple solution, a printing code was placed on the machine and only employees of the company where to have this code. When you are the auditee and you are sure that you are within regulations and company guidelines, set your foot down and brake all the hubris that could come with an auditor.

I can not tell you as to why their behaviour is like that, becasue that depends on the individual, but it is important to remember what the end goal is and that is passing the audit. Answer the auditor as openly and honestly as you can, and do not let their attitude effect your performance by putting yor gaurd up or making you nervous, as that is perhaps more likely to casue errors. Remember that the auditor has not come in to be everyones friend, they are there to see what the quality management procedures are and regardless of their attitude if the procedures are in place then you shouldn't have anything to be worried about. Put yourself in the auditor shoes and remember they have to be objective in this and are not probably aware that by building a relationship with the auditee may inadvertantly cause them to be biased, which is obviously not acceptable.

With regards to your question above, I am thinking of two things: First, the auditor was ordered by the client to do such actions. Second, is that the auditor did not undergo Quality Auditor course and doesn't know what is he doing. Remember that ISO standards, and that includes Quality Audit which can be seen in Clause 8, were made to help a particular organization to produce quality products and not to make them uncomfortable.

I think the auditor is tring to scare you, they think they will get the audit done sooner if you are afraid or intimidates by them. The auditor may think they get better results when they act they are in charge.

Must auditees love staying in a defensive position during Audit. The Scenario is like a defensive (Auditee) Vs Offensive in some cases (Auditor). I believed that the Auditor is not there to find a fault or blame but he is there to see and assures that the system in place can function well, can add value to the organisation. So therefore if the auditee can see the auditor in this direction then the auditee will have more to learn from the auditor observations, but if on the contrary they see auditing as a defensive scenario, i can assures you that after the audit nothing will be done because their purpose was to defend the current system and they have worn so every thing is okay which for me i think is a wrong approch. This is the responsibility of the Auditor to clarify during the opening meeting with the Auditee.

Internal Auditor: .being an auditee

Its a wrong thing that an auditor have to show a power and show that he has got the power. But as an auditee you have to be clam and quite. You should alwys remain confident in what you say don't get bocked down and wherever neccessary answer in such a manner that you send a message across that you are doing anything wrong and the auditor don't ask you further questions. I have gone through no. of audits but i was fortunate that i never got such auditors but my boss always used to say always stay clam and work according to the SOP and whereever neccessary make it a point that your message is send across that you are not doing anything wrong.

It happened the same to me. The only way to fix this within a team/ company is to make people aware of the purpose of the Audit. We should corporate and work with auditors. If there is something bad being done, it is not because auditors don't like us, but it must be based on a fact.. therefore the company is at risk..the company interest should be first but it is also a way for individual improvements...

To release finished goods on time and document the same thing is understandable. But how a person manning the store is responsible if the fault in packaging line (precisely packaging material) delays dispatch of finished goods due to that fault. It looks like someone has to held responsible for it according to the auditor that audited our plant.

Though I will not be able to give a response with probability, it is a must to be inspirable From : patrickr.ranaivo@gmail.com, Theme : As being an Auditee At the outsite, I do apprecite your having evoke this kind of solution to this forum. More precisely, you have just stated that the company with whom you are appertaining is being auditing by an external auditors company. So, allow me to try to make do with clarify it : Whatever kind of audit, not only all Auditors shall endeavour to exhibit professional behavior but they must maintain confidentiality, indeed independence It is well noted that the auditors may have many roles depending upon whether they perform as an internal or external auditor. The role of an abovementioned external auditor is much more limited since they may provide interpretations of ISO 9001, but as modelized by ISO 9001 3rd Party Audit ; 1. cannot consult on implementation or corrective action solutions, 2. must abide by Code of Conduct and ; 3. maintain confidentiality . Although, they can report audit findings and suggest opportunities for improvement as well as the scope and objective of the assignment must also be taken into consideration. These abovementioned behavioural characteristics seemed to bother many employees into the company to which is being audited indeed by external since they are accustomed by first and second Party Auditing behavioural, in which Auditors show general behaviour often as Internal auditors who are the management interface, facilitate in communication, may act as a guide during audits, may facilitate the documentation and implementation process, may interface with customer and external auditors ( registrar or customers ). The reason of the said flexible behavioural is that internal Auditors should not audit the areas they implemented since the Registrar would likely view such activity as a conflict of interest, and they should not audit the areas they implemented. Internal Auditor are organized to follow managements directives and conduct internal audits on behalf of management, report audit findings to top management so the system can be improved. However though, They may also act as guides during audits by external auditors or customers since they already know the facility and audit process, plus it provides a good learning opportunity. Now let s come back to external auditor behavioural, and let me also emphasize the the group of sentenced use in this statement as put anyone ease . First of all, never have I doubted to express that hardly any auditors from external company have got very less compentency. Though I have much perplexed to said that it is a behavioural characteristics might be appearantly seen as signs through only the External Auditors code of conduct since : On account of, on the one hand, the Auditing principles: 1. Ethical Conduct includes auditor behavior that reflects trust, integrity, confidentiality and discretion. 2. Fair Presentation is the obligation to report truthfully and accurately : 3. Due Professional Care is applying diligence and judgment in auditing 4. Independence forms the basis for impartiality of the audit and objectivity of the audit conclusions. 5. Evidence based approach must be verifiable, be based on samples of the information available (since the audit is conducted during a finite period of time and with finite resources), ensure that proper use of sampling is made, to contribute to

conducted during a finite period of time and with finite resources), ensure that proper use of sampling is made, to contribute to the confidence that can be placed on the audit conclusions ; On the other hand ; First of all, after having been in contact with the organization to be audited, and perhaps made a preliminary visit, the audit team leader will prepare an audit plan, which provides the basis for the agreement among the audit client, audit team and the auditee regarding the conduct of the audit. The plan should facilitate scheduling and coordination of audit activities, should cover the following, very unique, but really a must is the Auditees Responsibility to : Request full cooperation from all personnel Concerning with any appearant behavioural of Auditors as seemed to be a significant authority, At all times, the team leader is responsible for maintaining control of the audit. Experience helps auditors to develop their own way of working in an area and then adapting various techniques as each situation demands. In addition, second, do not forget that the auditee, usually the Management Representative, is in regular contact with the Registrar from the time the Registrar is contracted. As the date of the audit approaches, the auditee has a responsibility to communicate the audit plans within the organization. So many things as to be considered at audit, in front of any unknown behavioural characeristics shown by Auditors, thus, do not quick to show undesirable which may change your auditees role. Having adopted the Auditors role, states that an audit is a systematic, independent, and documented process for obtaining audit evidence and evaluating it objectively to determine the extent to which audit criteria are fulfilled. Audits are structured and formal evaluations. The term systematic means the company must plan and document its system for auditing. It must have management support and resources behind it. Considering the Auditee reaction in front of Auditors, either Auditors or Auditee can show authority, and it work both ways. As being an auditee do not quick become protective of their company and try to browbeat the auditor. It is true to the fact that auditor must insist firmly, but politely, on being given respect, and the auditor gives it first). As any auditees do not feel inferior and easy to be frustrated in front of the auditors behavioural, and because though the auditors are a representation of authority, become nervous, at all times, the team leader is responsible for maintaining control of the audit. Experience helps auditors to develop their own way of working in an area and then adapting various techniques as each situation demands. Although, the auditor must use patience and politeness, and where appropriate, be empathetic. Sometimes, for whatever reason, auditees may occasionally show antagonism in which they become hostile and aggressive towards the auditor. Naturally, the auditor must ignore any rudeness from the auditee. However, they may have to spend slightly longer in the area using patience, firmness, and politeness as their main defenses. Do not show diversionary tactics As being Auditees be kept shown continual improvement to hold close to your main role as Guide, Observers, Trainees, Consultant. Thank you very much indeed! I have had auditors like this over the years, I find it best to kill with kindness and give information as fast as I can. They will most of the time mellow and work with you . If you have your quality plan in place and know that it works on a day to day basis you have nothing to worry about (say what you do and do what you say)

Some auditors try to be formal about the process that is why maybe they try to avoid being chummy with the auditee so that wrong impressions will not be raised. Further, maybe they are also concentrating on their auditing task. It should come as a challenge to the auditee to approach the process professionally by welcoming the auditors and showing the auditors that everything is in order. The auditee should be open-minded and receptive to any findings that will come from the auditors as the audit is usually for the good of the customer and the company.

Agreed, For a successful audit process to comence without hitches or tensions auditees being the subject of the Audit process they should know more than just debits and credits of their organisations and how to interact with auditors can give auditees the need and edge to add values and this i believe by enhancing their ''soft skills'' such as interpersonal relationships with auditors and those interpersonal soft skills are neccessary to succeed as an auditee.AUDITS SHOULD BE EMBRACED AS ART RATHER THAN SCIENCE..

As an auditee, you have nothing to fear if you do the right things at the right time. Auditor work is synonymous to detective work, they will do all sort of things to intimidate you, if you are perceived to be unsettled at the prensence of an Auditor it could mean you probabily have skeleton in your cupboard.

Auditors whom have such behaviors do not understand the really concept of Being an Auditor , Being an auditor does not necessary means that the Auditee is some one you have to take as your inferior or some one you have to show authority to, neverthaless auditee is some one you have to show respect and kindness and beside some one who is there to help you get your job done if we can say.

Who do we love to talk to? To whom we can be honest and free-spoken. Of course, to some one who is good-minded, same level with us and simple and ingenious one. Therefore, I always try to be as their (auditee) friend, and as listener when I am auditing in a project. Otherwise, auditor may not find some significant aspects such as real improvement or failure. It can lead an auditor to wrong way and could reach to not true result. But, people (organization) trust with an auditor and they believe auditor's report. Thus, I think that auditor must be well listener and in order to gain sufficient and adequacy information from the auditees. Also they should use simplified question rather than hard questions.

But, earth is a consist of different people.

I think it is extremely important that auditors put auditees at ease to conduct a stress free, unbiased, objective audit where both parties are equally willing and forthcoming in cooperating with each other. I am sorry your auditors made you feel that way. Perhaps, you can contact your certifying body to state your concern. Good luck!

i think to harmonize the tensions that could arise between the auditor and the auditee ,the later should understand that the purpose of the auditing as non implicative and not aiming to reprimand him/her ,that instead it is to help the him/her to correct any discrepancy that may be observed by the auditor which will help to streamline the organization back to its set objectives and guarantee quality improvement.and where the auditee continues to be uncooperative ,the auditor has not stand and watch ,he has to become aggresive and make the auditee know that it under his jurisdction to carry out the periodical auditing as clearly stated in ISO 9001.

How are they trying to show their authority? Are they pointing out opportunities for improvement, making suggestions, or trying to make you do things the way they want to see them, and not necessarily required by ISO? We have had the same auditor for about 10 years now, and we think he is great! The irst couple of years were a liitlle touch and go, though. It probably stemmed from lack of experience coming from both sides during an audit, but gradually we both cam to terms and realized the audit was designed to help us improve. Good luck.

I was working in a local airline company as an accountant. I had the chance to observe twice a third hand audit for the company. I was mainly one of the focal person that should provide to the auditors documents upon request. From my stand point, we know ( the company) was in good standing in regard ofhaving, applying, reporting, updating, and implemating policies and procedures as per the manual. One of the two guy was very nice by asking politely for accounting documents in order to perform verification on the Income Statement. But the order guy was kind of questionning in a way to find fault with. He would ask you the question several times but in a
