THE EXPRESSION OF THE FUTURE

1.- FUTURE SIMPLE:
- The weather forecast says it will rain tomorrow
(Prediccin de futuro)
- I forgot to call him yesterday. I will call him right now (accin futura no
planeada y que decido en el mismo momento de hablar).
2.- TO BE GOING TO:
-We are going to meet at the disco tomorrow.- (accin futura ya planeada; intencin)
- Those clouds are very dark. I think its going to rain ( hay evidencias externas que
permiten saber casi con toda seguridad que algo va a pasar. Llamado futuro inmediato)
3.- PRESENT CONTINUOUS:
- We are meeting at the disco tomorrow. Accin futura planeada y de alguna
manera ya gestionada o tramitada ( a bit more certain than To be going to)
4.- PRESENT SIMPLE:
- My train leaves at three oclock tomorrow morning ( horarios y programaciones
pre-establecidos)
- I must get to the bank before it closes. ( acciones futuras con oraciones
temporales introducidas por conjunciones como after, as, when, as soon as, before,
by the time, until.)
5.- FUTURE CONTINUOUS:
- Andrew cant go to the party. Hell be working all day tomorrow ( accin que
estar sucediendo en el futuro)
6.- FUTURE PERFECT
- By this time next year I will have paid all the money back to the bank and We
will have found a new place to live in.
7.- WAS/ WERE GOING TO:
- I was going to iron the clothes but I didnt have any time ( expresa una
intencin en el pasado; a menudo la accin no se lleg a hacer. Es una forma muy
habitual para poner excusas)
8.- OTHER STRUCTURES FOR THE FUTURE:
- In 200 years there will be spaceships instead of cars and there wont be any
pollution (futuro del impersonal there is/ there are)
- The plane is at the end of the runway. Its about to take off (estar a punto de..)
- She is very angry and she is on the point of leaving the meeting ( estar a punto de)
- Im likely to go to OBKs concert (to be likely + Infinitive= ser probable)
- Sheila will probably go to university.
- When you grow up, then you will realise how wrong you are! (Modo subjuntivo)
9.- WHEN?
Conjunciones: AFTER, BEFORE, ONCE, AS SOON AS, BY THE TIME, WHEN, UNTIL
Adverbios: TOMORROW, TOMORROW MORNING, NEXT, IN + time expression. THIS
TIME + Adv.

THE FUTURE.PRACTICE:
1.- Place yourself in the future ( next summer, next year, in 10 years, next weekend,
etc) and write 5 things you will be doing then. Write the time reference too.
