Study the speech below. Change the underlined words to present tense. Good morning to Puan Jamaliah, teachers and fellow students. Today we were gathered here for a special occasion, that was to celebrate Teachers Day. As you know, teachers had done a lot to educated us. On a bigger scale, teachers played a major role in nation-building. They were responsible for educating and moulding the younger generation who will be our future leaders. I will not be exaggerating if I said, without our teachers, we will not be where we were today. So, this special day was for all of us to showed our gratitude and appreciation to our beloved teachers. I could go on singing praises for our teachers but we had other programmes lined up. I would like to took this opportunity to thanked all the teachers for the wonderful job they had done. We were very lucky to had all of you teaching us in this school. Without much ado, I would like to went on to our next programme for today, that was drama put up by the Form One students. 2

Paragraph Thank you for listening. All of us know that English Language is very important for many reasons. Firstly, it is spoken widely in many countries. If you know English, you will have no problem in communication wherever you go. I hope I have emphasized the importance of English Language to all of you. So starting from today, you should take effort to improve your English. It will benefit us in many ways. It is one of the official languages in the business world. Most of the major international meetings and conventions are held in English. As such, the importance of English as a world language cannot be denied. English is also used on the Internet. We are living in the age of information technology. The Internet is used for business transactions and is a source of general knowledge. Many books are also written in English. We can enjoy these books which are a source of knowledge and relaxation. A very good morning to the Principal, teachers and fellow students. We will hold the English Language Week for the fifth time in our school on Tuesday until Friday. As the President of the English Language Society, I would like to emphasise on the importance of the English Language.
