1.2 Overview of the Current State of Technology The Mark Lorenz General Merchandising Store is using manual operation in their business transaction. Currently, the store is using a calculator for computations and they also have adding machine. After the walk-in customer collects their desired items they presented it to the sales clerk to list down the items and the clerk will give the list to the cashier. The cashier will compute for the total amount of all the items using calculator and after that, the cashier will issue a receipt using adding machine which only prints the price of the items. But sometimes when walk-in customer has only 1-5 items or less than 10 items they dont need to present those items to the clerk, he/she directly proceed to the counter. The said merchandising has not yet having an overall inventory for their store. They just only knew if their product is out-of-stock once their customer asks if they still have stocks for that specific item. And when they found out that these items are really out-of-stock that is the only time they would request a delivery for a specific products. The proponents proposed a Point of Sale System for Mark Lorenz Merchandising Store to avoid and minimize time consuming process.

Theoretical Framework 1.4.1 Database Normalization The Database Normalization is used by the
proponents in the system development to avoid data repetition and data redundancy to keep the data accurate and eliminate loss of information. 1.4.2 Graphical User Interface The proponents used Graphical User Interface to easily interact and to be user-friendly to the end-users. The proponents used this GUI to ease their works and give them some idea and knowledge in designing their system.

2.2 Local Literature 2.2.1 Another research study with the title name Sales Inventory for Gaisano Capital Tacloban Branch, that was conducted by the group of researchers of Eastern Visayas State University Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Students. The study also deals with sales inventory wherein the customer will purchase the item, and then the cashier will scan the barcode to the barcode reader machine and automatically compute the sold items, available and generate sales inventory report. The objectives of their research study is to have an accurate sales, stock, availability of an items, lessen the work load of the management employee and have smooth flow of sales inventory.
2.2.2 According to Dennis M. Aglipay, their study entitled Point of Sale System for Capitol Hill Mart was done on the year of 2005. 3.2 Research Instrumentation The proponents use this research instrument to conduct information to the beneficiary of the proposed system. We used Interview to be able to identify what are the problems of the company and we prepared sets of questions to find out the needs of the end-users that will help us to determine what will be the contents of the proposed system. And also we conduct a Research and used this to gain more ideas and information about the proposed system. Lastly, the proponents took sample form to the company such as sales invoice. Sales Invoice is a commercial document issued by a seller to a buyer. This from contains sales invoice number and date of issue.
Page 19
3.3 Data Gathering Procedure The proponents seek first for a company being the beneficiary of the system project. We asked the approval of our proposed system to the owner of Mark Lorenz General Merchandising, Mr. Lorenzo Omandam. After the proposed system was approved, the questions for the interview were established to help the proponents in gathering data from the company. On August 16, 2012 the proponents conducted an interview. Based on that interview, the proponents found out the history of the company. After that the proponents did an observation, they monitor the transaction flow about their task on how they transacted with their customers. The proponents also took samples of their documentation such as sales invoice. Aside from the interview, the proponents added some ideas and concepts through research in internet and library that were related to the proposed system.

4.1 Development of the System 4.1.1 System Design Specification System Security This module will protect the data against unauthorized users and will also limit a particular employee in accessing the system by the use of user identification and password. Payment This module shows items purchased by the customer, the total amount of the purchased item, the amount paid by the customer and the amount of change of the customer. Item Void This module will let the user to cancel the purchased item in case that the customer changes his mind. The Item will be deleted to the current transaction. Fast moving, Slow moving and Non-Moving Products This module will show the list of products that are fast moving, slow moving and non-moving items. With this module, the company will know the products and those that are saleable or not. Point of Sale System for Mark Lorenz General Merchandising Page 21
Multiple Item Quantity This module will allow the user to hold the multiple quantities of items.
Look up This module is capable of searching for the price of the item without adding the item in the transaction.
Sales Report This module will allow the user to view or even print the sales for the day, week and month.
Audit Trail This module tracks all the events that happen in the system. It shows who used the system, the time, date and specific module visited by the logged user.
Backup and Recovery This module will facilitate the backup and recovery of the files.
