Tutorial Tools Printable Version How to Turn Windows Firewall On or Off in Windows 7 Information Windows Firewall can help prevent hackers or malicious software from gaining acc ess to your computer through the Internet or network. This will show you how to to turn Windows Firewall On or Off for each type of ne twork location (ex: Private or Public) that you use in Windows 7. Windows Firewa ll is turned on by default in Windows 7. EXAMPLE: Windows Firewall On and Off NOTE: Notice that there is a option for Windows Firewall to be on or off with Pr ivate networks and Public networks. If you have Inactive showing on a network lo cation, this means that you do not have a network connection for that type of ne twork location. Active means that you do. Here's How: 1. Open the Control Panel (icons view). 2. Click on the Windows Firewall icon. 3. Click on the Turn Windows Firewall on or off link in the left blue pane. (See screenshot below)

OPTION ONE Home or Work (Private) Network Location Settings 4. To Turn On Windows Firewall A) Select (dot) Turn on Windows Firewall. (See screenshot below step 5) B) If prompted by UAC, then click on Yes. C) Check the Windows Firewall notifications settings you want. (See screenshot b elow step 5) D) Go to OPTION TWO below.

5. To Turn Off Windows Firewall A) Select (dot) Turn off Windows Firewall. (See screenshot below) B) If prompted by UAC, then click on Yes. C) Go to OPTION TWO below.

OPTION TWO Public Network Location Settings 6. To Turn On Windows Firewall A) Select (dot) Turn on Windows Firewall. (See screenshot below step 7) B) If prompted by UAC, then click on Yes. C) Check the Windows Firewall notifications settings you want. (See screenshot b elow step 7) D) Go to OPTION TWO below. 7. To Turn Off Windows Firewall A) Select (dot) Turn off Windows Firewall. Kaspersky has a firewall included in it, so when you installed it, it disabled t he Windows Firewall since you should only have one firewall installed and runnin g at one time. That is why this is red for you. Nothing to worry about since you have Kaspersky firewall installed. I have downloaded the scanner drivers and software sucsessfully, on attempting t o download the printer driver at the point of finishing extracing the files I ge t an error message saying 'Windows cannot install your printer driver and / or u tilities' I have tried epson support who have tried intsalling the driver from other web s ources, dissabling background start up programs etc. I have searched the web but cannot find any fixes or explaination to the problem ... Let us try to disable Antivirus security software and check the issue. Re-enable the security software after checking the issue.

You can also try to disable the firewall and check the issue. Re-enable the firewall after checking the issue.

Turn Windows Firewall on or off http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

Check if the issue is resolved.

Method 2:

A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. Let us check if any software i s causing the issue by following the clean boot procedure.

Follow the instructions in the link below to perform Clean boot procedure.

Step 1: Perform a clean boot Step 2: Enable half of the services Step 3: Determine whether the problem returns Step 4: Enable half of the Startup items Step 5: Determine whether the problem returns Step 6: Resolve the problem Step 7: Reset the computer to start as usual

After checking the issue, put the computer back to the Normal mode. Uninstall or update the program which is causing the issue.
