In 2011, The Barberton Community Foundation presented their Outstanding Organization Award to the St. Vincent de Paul Society from St. Augustine Church for their many acts of service and contribution to the city of Barberton. The demand on St. Vincent de Paul has not stopped since 2011 either. The total aid they provided in 2012 was $33,589.99 and the total for the past 5 years has totaled $200,000.00 Out of the 381 requests last year, 211 have received assistance. SVDP helps with standard utilities including: gas, electric, water, food, and also with the Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets, special work projects, and Blanket Sunday. This past weekend, we passed out Lenten Almsgiving boxes with our Sunday Bulletin. We ask that you participate in our project by donating anything you can. One hundred percent of your donation will go toward the aid of the poor in the Barberton and Norton area. OUR PARISH GOAL IS

$5000 to benefit of St. Vincent de Paul and the poor of Barberton and Norton. The collection began on Ash Wednesday, February 13, and will run through Easter Sunday. Banks will be collected on Palm Sunday, with donations being accepted until Easter Sunday. So you know how close we are getting to our goal, we fill the thermometer on the back wall of the church as we get closer to our $5000 goal. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

During the Lenten season, we follow the tradition of the Church in preparing our hearts for the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. We undertake different fasting and penitential practices to free ourselves from the bondage of sin and to begin anew with Easter. One way you can travel the Lenten journey is to attend a new program at St. Augustine called Seven Deadly Sins & Seven Lively Virtues. Presented by Fr.

Robert Barron on DVD. The program focuses on the Seven Deadly Sins and how these gravely sinful habits manifest themselves in our lives. Then, Father Barron discusses Seven Lively Virtues, which correspond to each deadly sin and gives us a practical means to avoid sin and grow in holiness.

of course, that is not always the case. I cannot help wonder how many times I fail to recognize the gifts I am being given either because I am preoccupied or too filled with expectations of what should happen to appreciate what is actually in my life at any given moment. Terri Mifek

Recognizing the Gifts We Are Given Come behold the deeds of the Lord Psalm 46:9. I was walking around a nearby Lake recently when I caught a glimpse of something moving in the sky. When I looked up, I was dazzled by the sight of two eagles dipping and soaring in unison. I watched them for several minutes, mes-

merized by their graceful movements. Although there were many people running and walking along the lake path, there were surprisingly few who noticed the majestic birds impressive performance. That day I was fortunate enough to be unoccupied and unhurried enough to appreciate what was in front of me; unfortunately,
