Teams participating in the competition have the opportunity to meet and network with experienced venture capital principals, early stage angel investors, successful entrepreneurs, and senior business leaders who will serve as judges for the competition. There are two categories for teams to compete: FAU Student Track venture teams comprised solely of FAU students. Entrepreneur Track venture teams comprised of students from other colleges/universities and members of the business community or any combination thereof. Teams will compete for cash prize money, legal and business services, office space at FAUs Research Park Authority.

Global Social Venture Competition is the world's preeminent social business plan competition providing aspiring entrepreneurs with mentoring, exposure, and $50,000 in prize money to transform their business ideas into positive real-world impact. The GSVC occurs over three rounds. The top two teams from each Regional Semi-Final Round will be selected to compete in April 2013 at the Global Finals at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. Winner are announced at the culmination of the global finals and prizes are awarded as follows: 1st place: $25 000 2nd place: $10 000 3rd place: $5 000 The remaining $10 000 will be distributed through a People's Choice award and special awards. The submission deadlines differ between regions.

The competition is open to all amateur photographers and each month's round follows a distinct theme. After the closing date of each round, the entries are narrowed down to a shortlist of 50, then the top 30, and finally the top three. Points are awarded to each image for creativity, technical excellence and how well the image fulfils the brief. Judges are looking for original, imaginative and well-executed pictures that explore the theme in an exciting way. The names of the top 50 photographers from each round appear on our website, along with the images from the top 30. The top 30 images are also published in the magazine at the end of the month. After the ten rounds, the person with the most points accumulated over all the rounds will be crowned Amateur Photographer of the Year 2013.
