[Episode 37] The Mystery Experience with Tim Freke

The Mystery Experience with Tim Freke [Episode 37] Wired For Success TV [0:00:12] Beryl: Hello and welcome to another episode of http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv. Im Beryl Thomas and with me as usual is my co-host, Melanie Gabriel. Say hi to everyone, Melanie. Melanie: Hello, everyone. Beryl: Our aim in putting this show together is to entice and seduce you into picking up the cards of your life, giving them a good shuffle and accepting whatever new hand you are dealt. As any game of cards, not every hand you are dealt looks like a winner and therein lies the fun of this game. When we pay attention and look for ways to succeed, extraordinary and unexpected events can happen along the way. The win or loss, it is still just a game. Todays guest believes in playfulness and fun and hes going to help us to understand how to play the game of life from a spiritual standpoint. He is most definitely an expert on spirituality having published more than 30 books with titles ranging from Zen Made Easy, The Heart of Islam, Taoist Wisdom, through to The Laughing Jesus. Though intriguingly, he styles himself as the stand-up philosopher. Hes an internationally known speaker on spirituality and runs transformational mystery experience retreats, pioneering simple ways for participants to experience a spiritual awakening. Ram Dass describes his work as, An open door inviting one and all into the mystery. So, we are thrilled today to welcome to our humble show, Mr. Tim Freke. Hi, Tim. Tim: Hello.
2 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

Melanie: Hi, Tim. Tim: Hi. Beryl: Thank you so much for spending some time with us. Tim: Oh, its my pleasure. Beryl: So, we would love to hear the story behind this wonderful title, Stand-up Philosopher. Tim: Well, when I was studying philosophy at university which is quite a long time ago now, philosophy had this image of really being very dull or academic. They are removed from life. And my feeling was, philosophy wasnt like that. For me, it was a passion about trying to understand, here we are, were alive. We dont know what life is. Its all very interesting and somewhat strange. And philosophy is the art of learning to live wisely, of trying to find out what it is to be alive. Its something so immediate. Its something which changes your life more than anything else. So I wanted to present philosophy and to discuss philosophy in a way that made it accessible and fun. I dont want it to be sexy. I want people to care about what they think as much as they do about what they wear, maybe more so. That there is something we really want to get, that this really comes. And this is not something for this is not for everyone. So the idea of doing stand-up philosophy, its not stand-up comedy that I do. I do philosophy. But I do it in the same spirit of stand-up comedy in that its fun, its immediate and I like to stand up and as you can see by how much I wave my hands. I like to move around a lot so I can let the energy come in to the ideas and then you feel the enthusiasm for the change they can make to your life. Beryl: And talking about changes you make to your life, you help people in a very special and specific way. And when I was researching you, the word mystery kept coming up. And I understand that you run something you called this Mystery Experiences, this retreat. Can you kind of draw back the curtain on what this mystery is?
3 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

Tim: Yes. Oh, what a lovely idea. For me, the very center of philosophy is a sense of wonder in the face of life that we are having this experience right now here of being alive in this incredible world, this universe which is bigger than we can possibly conceive of. On this journey in which were looking and feeling and touching and experiencing and changing, all of these things are happening and we dont know what it is. It is an incredible mystery. We think we know what it is. We pretend to ourselves sometimes we know what it is but if were really honest, we dont. None of us do. Life is fundamentally above all else mystery. Now, when we dont pay attention to the mystery, we kind of live in a very narrow way. So it kind of makes us numb. We get lost in our story about what life is and who we are but we dont see what life really is which is incredible. I mean that we exist. I mean wow! And we end up in a way, its like the old adage, Youre eating the menu, not the meal. And it taste of cardboard. Your life becomes very numb, repetitive, you feel like youre kind of half alive. And you know what? You are. Whereas when you see the mystery of existence, consciousness changes and the minute you notice it, I mean right now, just noticing it now, just feeling as I am looking outside a beautiful window and on to my garden and just looking out and sensing the incredibleness of existence and that Im here to experience it and how precious that is to me that I can experience this moment, my state of consciousness changes. Beryl: Yeah. Its interesting because I was going to come in to talking to you about uncertainty but you are leading into that beautifully because mystery is about uncertainty. Tim: Absolutely. Theres fundamentally two ways you can experience the mystery. You can be frightened of it and close in or you can open to it. And if you open to the mystery of life, it is ecstatic actually. So thats why I called this The Mystery Experience. Now, that is a state of uncertainty. But theres also, right at the center of it paradoxically an incredible sense of knowing in something. And what you see in the great spiritual traditions of the world which is where Id spent my life studying and practicing is you see that this constant
4 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

idea, if you step out of where you know into where you dont know, you find a new type of knowing. Something in the West, it was called Noses [Phonetic] [0:06:38]. And in the East, in India, its called Ganana [Phonetic], same word really. And its a knowing, its a deep knowing. It is a knowing so deep you cant even really put it into words. But this is what spirituality in its deepest sense is all about. Its finding that deep knowing. And if I had to try and put it into words, Id say, its something as simple as you know that everything is OK. Beryl: This is lovely because for Melanie and myself, were always trying to find ways to explain to people what Wired for Success means. And for us, it means that we are innately wired to be successful. And wasnt that a perfect explanation, Melanie? That knowingness that everything is going to be all right. Tim: Theres massive sense for me, you come in to that knowing and theres my own experience of it which Ive been exploring since I was very young, what I hear other people that I guide to this experience, at my Mystery Experience Retreats or to my book such as my book, The Mystery Experience, the feedback I get is theres a commonality that people say, Look, there is an experience in which you sensed that behind all the separateness, theres a fundamental oneness which unites us. That everything truly is all one and its not just a sweet idea. Its something you really experience. And what comes from that oneness and this for me is the biggest thing, the most important thing, is love that theres a love of being and a love of all beings, a love of life, a love of everything and everyone. When you sense that behind the veneer, the surface separateness, in the depths, everything is one. A bit like theres one ocean with many waves. When you sense the depths of the ocean where were one, you fall in love with everything. Theres this big, big love that you can feel in every cell in your body. Its not an abstract concept. And my passion is that my feeling is that thats what spirituality is about. Its very concrete. Its about waking up to this deep knowing, seeing the oneness. And from that, this entering into life with love; living with love that comes from a feeling of connectedness with everything and everyone.
5 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

Beryl: So for the people that think security is outside of them, are you saying theyre looking in the wrong place? Tim: Yeah, I think we look for most things in the wrong place really because we think that we can fix it by accumulating something. And of course, that helps and Im not pin-pointing the obviousness of human life. I think its wonderful. But that deep security only comes from discovering who we really are. It only comes from discovering your own depths because I dont know about you but I know a lot of very wealthy people who should be feeling incredibly secure and all the rest of it and theyre no different to anyone else because the thing which makes us secure and safe OK. Let me come at it this way. My feeling is look, if you really look at what it is to just be a human being, then you if youre not frightened, you havent been paying attention because life is really scary. We all know that. Pretending its not is crazy. Its really scary. Good things happen bad things happen to good people all the time. We see that. So theres no security ultimately there. But when you come into discovering your deep self, what in traditionally will be called, spirit, which just means essence. The essence of who you are. When you feel that, when you know that, that you find somewhere which is always safe. Its such a feeling of relief like coming home. Like oh yeah, there I am. Im safe. And that allows you to take the risk of life. Melanie: So, when you get people who come along to your Mystery Experience who perhaps feel theyve made it but of course, theyve made it on the externally successful level. What for them what is it what do they notice is the biggest turnaround when they go through your experience? Tim: Sure. Well, what I do with people is take them directly to the experience itself. I use something I call paralogical philosophy, which is a philosophy Ive developed which comes from an understanding of paradox. And most importantly, I use what I call eye to eye experiences. Practices we can do together that help us really connect with each other and see the depths in ourselves and the depths in other people. And what happens when you do that is that your state of consciousness changes and you become one I call a deep awake. You enter the Mystery
6 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

Experience. When that happens to you, you cant miss it. Its like boom! There is the oneness. There is the love. It doesnt matter whether you are rich or poor. It doesnt matter whether who you are. When that happens, you know something, you cant put into words which is so deep and so important that your life will be different from that moment onwards. And what I love to see Im very lucky Mel because the people that come to my retreats are such a cross-section. I mean I get people who are doing spiritual searches for decades. I get people who have just been brought along by their husband or wife and dont really know why theyre there, never read one of my books, and have no idea thinking, What am I doing in a retreat run by a guy called Freke? Melanie: Its probably ideal for a retreat. Tim: And everything in between. But it doesnt matter. When we find who we really are, when we touch the depths of spirit, something profound happens and we can come back to the journey of life and find that yes, youve said, wired for success, that there is a parallel within us of such creativity, of such imagination, of such kindness that we really can live. We really can live. Beryl: My heart is melting just listening to you, Tim. Listen, so this is delightful and people come to your workshop. They volunteer. They put their hand up. Well, mostly. Some would try. But most of them saying, I want a spiritual awakening. OK? There are other people in this world who dont consciously look for it but it finds them and in the form of perhaps, ill health, relationship breakdown, employment-business issues, and it comes upon them uninvited. OK? And Im sure you come across those people in your work. And theyre probably resisting. They dont understand whats happening. Theyre frightened. They think theyre going crazy. People around them dont understand. They dont understand. What are your words of wisdom for those people? Tim: Well, the first thing I want to say is that life can be really tough and I dont want to pretend that its not. And I have great compassion for people who are at a phase in their life where theyre suffering. And I dont want to be spiritually glib about that. I really dont. It can happen to all of us and we need to be kind to each other and to ourselves first and foremost.
7 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

Once we are kind to each other then we can attempt to understand how this is fitting in, in the great adventure of our lives. And my own experience and from the people that I know well and Ive watched on the journey is that whilst at the time things well, when we dont understand what something is, it doesnt make sense by definition. We understand things in retrospect. But the struggle to become wiser to understand I think shows me that everything which arises in my life is teaching me something. And what its teaching me fundamentally is what I call love wisdom. Its teaching me how to really to love and to have the wisdom to know how to do that both. And when youre going through a really difficult time then there is always at the heart of it something of value. Because, and this is kind of without wanting to go right into the too much, this is part of what I mean by paralogical philosophy when I talked about understanding paradox, everything in life is paradoxical. So right in the heart of the worst of things is something really good. Many people will know the Yin-Yang sign, amazing symbol, the ancient Chinese symbol. The black dot in the white, the white dot in the black, the black is turning into the white, the white is turning into the black. And theyre like waves rising and falling. Thats how we all experience life. Theres no one so wise that bad things cant happen to them and theres no one so bad that good things cant happen to them. And right in the middle of the worst can be the best. And my feeling is like, Well, how did you get that? Beryl: Yeah, and so my question. Tim: Well, theres an old Sufi, the Sufis were mystics in the Islamic tradition, the poets often, great lovers of life, great devotees of life, and they tell this old story which I kind of like find helpful about a princess in the tower. And the princess is stuck in the tower and the princess represents the soul. And were stuck in this thing and were suffering and were isolated and were whatever it is in our lives and theres nothing good. And then the prince whos trying to save her, thats us, trying to save ourselves. And he cant get in. But she comes up with a very clever plan. And what she does is she takes some honey and she trickles honey down the tower. And when it reaches the bottom, the prince gets a little insect and he ties a tiny thread to the insect and puts the insect on the honey and
8 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

it climbs and eats the honey right to the top until she got the thread. When shes got the thread, she pulls it up and then he ties a string on the end of the thread. She pulls it up and then she got the string. And then he ties a piece of rope on the end of the string and she pulls it up and she got the rope. And then she comes down. And shes free. And why I love that, this is kind of a fairy tale story obviously but what I love about it is what its saying to me is, look, wherever you are, no matter how bleak the situation, there is a trickle of honey. It may just be a trickle but it is there. Find the trickle of honey. Follow the trickle of honey and then just keep going. And it will become something you can pull yourself out and its always there, always there without exception because life is paradoxical. Its impossible for it not to be there even in the face of the worst things, death. I used to work with people who are dying in my life and Ive seen a lot of suffering around death but Ive also seen there is always the trickle of honey and great beauty can come out, great wisdom can come out, and above all, love. Melanie: So, are you saying that your experience, the mystery experience will at least allow them to find the trickle of honey so that they can have that full experience? Tim: My hope Mel is that they will be relaxing in a whole bath full of honey by the end of this. But I would hope they would at least find the trickle. Melanie: Because Im thinking, if Im having a meltdown or Im going to adopt neither the soul. Its not very easy to even consider theres a trickle of honey. Tim: Its not. Thats why its so important that weve got each other. See for me, when I used to try and teach this years ago when I was much more I took a more a traditional approach, youd come and it would be a personal journey. I would try and meditate and go within and all about stuff that people do and Ive done myself for years. But its really hard especially when youre suffering.

9 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

But when youre with somebody else, when they start to see you, it becomes much easier for you to see yourself. And then between us, we start moving together and then those Melanie: So they share your honey. Tim: Yeah. You can share. We can share the honey. I like this. This is going into a great analogy. We can share. We can butter each others toast and share the honey. Beryl: Steady. Tim: And it works. It really works. Thats how it feels, Beryl. That you can that when you work together, you move together. And the great thing about retreat is that you step out of your story. Its stepping back out of your story. So people Im running a retreat and the next one is at the end of March in Glastonbury in the Spiritual Center where I happen to live in Somerset in the UK. I go around the world and do them. But Im doing one there and we have a lovely house, beautiful, old abbey house which overlooks the ruins of the abbeys. Its a beautiful place, great atmosphere. Fantastic people come and you step out of your story. And in just coming, youve done all the major things happened. You made the pilgrimage. Youve gone, I want this. Youre probably worried. Most people are, Oh, I wont get it. Last minute, Im not going to go. And all that sort of stuff but once you enter that door, you made. And then, most of it is done. And then we can go on this journey together and everyone will lift each other and we enter that state so that when you go back, you step back to jump forward. Now, you only go back to your life. Youve got that strength to actually come back into your dramas, your dilemmas, and meet them in a whole new way. Beryl: So, it sounds as though what people one of the things, many things, delightful things that they will experience on your retreat is actually a sense of their own greatness because other people will see the greatness in them because sadly in life, we often are not surrounded by people that even if they see our greatness, they dont want to tell us for some reason either embarrassment or fear Melanie: But its a sport to knock it back.
10 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

Beryl: Well sadly, it is. It is often. And so, it sounds as though stepping into your world there allows them the opportunity well, its a mirror, isnt it? This is what theyre seeing. Its in seeing somebody elses greatness, they start to see their own. Is that true? Tim: Yes. And you have just hit it on the very personal level. Thats exactly is. And the biggest thing I want is for people to experience the oneness so that they feel empowered as individuals. There is a certain point for many, many most people who go through this experience, the Mystery Experience with me where they look around and realize that every single person in this group is beautiful, deeply beautiful. Whoever they are, man, woman, young, old, theyre just beautiful. And then there will come a moment where they go, Oh my God! Theyre looking at me in the same way. Theyre seeing that in me. And then you can see it in yourself and there it is. Oh my God! I am that also. Beryl: So, why do you think that spirituality is becoming so well-known, so accepted at this point? Because when I think back maybe 20 years when I was in a workshop and the teacher said to me, What do you think about spirituality? And I said, I have no idea what youre talking about. I thought it was religion. No. And yet now, were coming into a place I mean 10 years ago maybe or 15 years ago, you couldnt find a self-help book for love or money. Lets say 15, 20 years ago, you couldnt. Now, every bookshop has got this own mind, body, spirit section. So what has happened in your and youve been working in this world for a long time, Tim, whats the change youre seeing? And also, Id like to ask you, how do you see that kind of spreading? And where are the tentacles going? Im thinking of like business for example, where we went, Melanie and I to a workshop the other day which was about your life, your business. It was very much talking about the head and the heart. Now, why is this happening? Where is it going would you say? Tim: I think its happening because life is evolving. One of the most powerful stories that we have now is the story of evolution which the science which blows me away. And for me, its the perfect compliment to deep spirituality, has this incredible story, thirteen and a half billion years of evolution to here. And evolution is not over. Whats happening is in the story of evolution, it constantly creates a new level. Atoms become
11 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

molecules. Molecules become cells. Cells become bodies. Bodies become sentient beings. Sentient beings become conscious beings. Where are conscious beings going? Well, were going to being super conscious. Were going to being deep awake. Were going to recognize in the place that were separate and all one. And I think spirituality which is spirit is the essence, its about the essence of the being of life, the being of each one of us, is becoming popular because thats the next step. Now, the problem has been that it has been mashed with religion. And religion, I mean the word means to bind together. And it plays that role but its very much stuck in the in the past right now. So its often seen in a negative way quite rightly because its full of dogmas, superstition, and its trying to smother science, birth for instance, and lots of crazy beliefs I fear. So, people dont want that and Im very glad. But what were doing and whats happened over the last few decades is weve distilled back from it this beautiful thing so that we can throw away the bath water but keep the baby. And what that is this deep wisdom of awakening. Now, spirituality as it stands has become much, much more popular which is being fantastic but theres been the downside too, of course because everything is paradoxical. And the downside is its also becoming more superficial and I think theres an awful lot going on in spiritual arena which people needs to be careful with. The biggest mistake that people make is they think to open their heart, theyve got to close down their head and that somehow they stop thinking, theyll be enlightened where actually if you stop thinking youll just be stupid and gullible. And theres a lot of that in spirituality. The way I approach it is that that its paralogical. We need this and this. We need head and heart. If we just got head without a heart, its just very dry. If we just got heart without head, we dont know where the hell we are or believe anything because we let the sign of it and youll be off with the fairies. If we can have both together, we can be genuinely human and we can actually engage practically with life as it is from a very deep loving space.
12 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

And my hope is that what we can do is create a new form of spirituality to help us do that. And what my book, The Mystery Experience, one of the things its all about is a new form of spirituality for the 21 st century that embraces science authentically, not in some fruity way but really and which can embrace real life as we live it and our humanity with all of its ambiguity and difficulty as well. And bring us to this deep knowing, this deep love, this oneness. Melanie: So, the thought going through my mind is do you get any or enough business people turning up to your Mystery Experiences because thats where this is needed? Tim: It is needed. And I do and I dont get enough of any sort of people. Id like to give this experience to every human being on this planet. There was a woman in Las Vegas who were going right afterwards and her comment always sticks in my mind. She just went, This is what everyone wants to feel. And that was it. She just nailed it. Thats it. You dont need to say anymore than this. No matter who you are, this is what you want to feel. This is what human being is longing for. They long to feel this oneness and this love. And so yeah, everybody, every type but in terms of changing the world, business people, wouldnt it be great? I do get business people. I get people I had a gentleman fly in from Hong Kong to Glastonbury to do it. I get people from England, America, Holland, all over, lots of people who are involved in business in every form. Melanie: But are they the movers maybe what the movers and shakers. Tim: Well, theyre moving and shaking in their own areas and some of them like the guy from Hong Kong is pretty powerful [indiscernible] [0:28:45] but my feeling Mel is that what Im looking at doing over the next period and thats kind of premature for me to really go in to this with you now because its just beginning to develop is I want to develop a way of sharing this awakening with places like business and indeed schools and indeed any group of people. Melanie: You took the next question out of my mouth because Im saying, I wonder how we could how one could develop?
13 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

Tim: Well, I think we can. I really think we can and as you have rung me today, right the second Im working right now on how to create a new approach which takes all of this mystical wisdom and just takes the mysticism out, takes the spirituality to one side in terms of the language but just allows people to experience this eye to eye connection because the connection is what does it. And then people can understand it in whatever language they like and it will help them if they want to towards this deep spirituality if they want to go there. And it will affect for sure, just the connecting, thats what does it. Melanie: Are you able for those who are still listening and wondering what the hell are talking about, are you able to say anymore about the eye to eye connection? Tim: Yes, yes. Look, well, heres a very simple way into it and I do what I do is use the senses because thats what were experiencing. Were looking and were listening and were touching. So what I want to show people is that how different their experience is if they change the way they do that or the consciousness with which they do that. So for instance, there you are both, these two lovely faces on my screen. Now, what I see is your faces, beautiful faces, full of personality and experience and joy and suffering, and all the things that make a human being very smart. Thats what I see. But what Im connecting with is something deeper that I cant see. I know that you are experiencing a psyche or soul, to use the old-fashion word. Youre experiencing a world of thinking and feeling, memories and hopes and dreams and all that, none of which I can see. But its there. You are a conscious being and I am too. So I am something that I cant see that is looking connecting through the looking with something that I cant see that is looking. Conscious being is connecting with conscious being right now. We just live here and we dont notice that. But if you spend a bit of time with it, oh my goodness, you start seeing how incredible that is. And when you get that connection, becoming more and more conscious, thats when the transformation starts to happen. And whats amazing is people often think thats going to be a little bit difficult because its not something we do but actually, it turns out to be incredibly reassuring. In fact, its actually obvious. Its exquisite.
14 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

Melanie: I was actually going to say, I should imagine its a remembering because if one remembers one own child shortly after birth and certainly in the first few months, they do a lot of that with you. Tim: Well, I had the great blessing that when my little girl was born, 12, 13 years ago, she was born in the birthing pool just with my hands over them, and I was holding my wife so that when her head was just shes just being born literally and she was on my wifes breast and she happens to be facing me so she opens her eyes for the first time and looking straight into my eyes. And you know, its just like looking into this ocean of being, this vast world. Now, thats still there. Thats still there in everyone. So what we do is we just make people conscious of that so that when we meet, we can wait here, Hey, Im Tim and you are Beryl and Mel and were grown up so we can live in the world. And then we can come back into our being and were like little kids. Were still playing in the moment. Thats still there. It hasnt gone anywhere. Were this and were this. And go right back and theres our being and its that same thing that I saw in my little girls eyes. Theres this ocean of oneness which is just looking at and I can look into your eyes and connect with it and I can be the one ocean connecting with the ocean. So the oneness sees itself through being two. And that is exquisite. Thats where you see, oh my God, we really are separate and not separate at the same time. Beryl: This is lovely and it reminds me, I did have the privilege of having this kind of experience. I was in a Tom Lescher workshop who we interviewed a couple of weeks ago. And we did this experience in a group where went from person to person to look into each others eyes. And on the one hand, your paradox thing that you talked about, it was incredibly uncomfortable. And on the other hand, it was incredibly moving and nearly everybody was in tears at the end of it in a good way. It somehow and I couldnt believe how profound it was Tim, it somehow seem to touch a part of me that I actually almost wanted to shy from but I couldnt because I had to go and look at the next person and it was very, very profound. So if you do that kind of experience, your participants are in for a treat.
15 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

Tim: We do. And whats interesting to me and Ive been developing this for the last 10 or 15 years is that more and more people I suspect quite independently have stumbled upon as I did the same thing. So what Im doing is Im connecting with people by looking in each others eyes but also, listening to each other with their eyes closed and just passing a phrase like I am between each other so youre listening the same way. Can you hear that the one is hearing the one by hearing to be two? And by touching fingertips and feeling that movement between us. Things like that. And we can do it sometimes all together and sometimes just in pairs and from that, the most incredible transformation happens by these eye to eye experiences. Because what were doing is not were not challenging some foreign mantra, were not doing its not cutting ourselves off from the world and withdrawing within. Were reaching out and were being with what already exists. Were already looking. Were already listening. So lets do it in this way and theres this profound transformation that happens. And Im delighted that so many people are beginning to realize that. And what Ive done is create an environment which is so safe that generally, people dont find it difficult because it can be difficult. Its all about the context. Its not the looking in the eyes thats doing it because I could look in your eyes and it could be the most violent and aggressive things that youve experienced. Weve all had that being in the Jehovahs like, Whats your problem? And its like theyre looking at you in the eyes. And that can be horrible. Its not the looking in the eyes. Its the way you do it. Its the way you listen. Its whats happening to consciousness that makes the difference. So what I set up is a very, very, very safe place because I have this little phrase which I love. Every heart assured of safety opens instantly. And thats my experience. You feel safe enough just looking. Beryl: Fascinating. Well, what a wonderful conversation, Tim. Tim: Thank you. It has been. I loved it. I have a great you can tell, I have a real passion for this. Its been my passion all my life and I want to share it with as many people as I get the opportunity. Melanie: So this experience that you give people, is it a weekend experience or how many days, two days?
16 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

Tim: I run it I mean I do it in different ways, in different places. But the place that is my third place is my hometown, at Glastonbury, this magic little town. We have a super venue and there I go from a Friday night. We start with a meal about six. We have 20 to 40 people. We go through until Sunday about 3:15 and during that time, I hope to take us right out into the mystery, allow everyone to feel the oneness, feel the big love, and come right back in ready to leave and go home and take that with them into their lives and all the dilemmas which they will undoubtedly face to engage with it in a new way and to be armed with some techniques which can really, really help them transform their experience. And this paralogical philosophy which we havent had time to develop which sounds a bit scary but its not. My shorthand for it is its both and philosophy rather than either or. So for instance, when we talk about the head or the heart, many people think its head or heart. Stop thinking with your head and get your heart. This philosophy goes, no, its not either or. Its both and. We dont have to be spiritual or material. Lets be both and. We dont have to be we dont have to know the oneness and shun our separateness. We can be separate and or one because life is paradoxical. We dont have to pretend that life is always good because its good and bad. Its all of that. It allows us to cope with it, to engage with life as we really experience it. Beryl: This is so what we are about at Wired for Success, Tim. This is so perfect. And I think youve kind of said, yes in a roundabout way to coming back and talking to us some more about your, tell me again, your paradox Tim: Paralogical. Beryl: Paralogical. Melanie: Yeah. It caused us so many bits that weve referred to that it would be nice to just break them open. Beryl: So thats a yes, thats a yes, Tim. Melanie: Go on, Mel.

Beryl: Tim, our viewers are going to want to connect with you, where can they find you? Tim: They can go to TheMysteryExperience.com and they will find there lots of information. They will find at how they can contact me. They will find a lovely film, a 5-minute film which puts across not only the idea but the feeling, I hope, of what we mean by the mystery experience which is well worth having a look at. Beryl: Its beautiful, that film. Its absolutely beautiful. I vouch for it, yeah. Yeah, it moved me greatly. Go see it. Yeah. Tim: Oh super. And they can download completely for free the first third of my book, The Mystery Experience in whatever format they like to use. And there are loads of interviews and conversations and things they can be part of and mailing list which they can sign up to, to get more inspiration. And they will be most welcome. I look forward to seeing them. And of course, they can find out when the next Mystery Experience Retreat is which is in Glastonbury at the end of March or in the summer where Im doing a 5-day one. Im doing it over five days longer because I get so many people flying from abroad so Im going to make a holiday. So well have the afternoons off so that people can go to the abbey, have a mystical tour, go and see the Wells Cathedral which is magnificent and all the local things. And also, do the retreat. So its going to be a longer one. Melanie: And theyll probably have a better appreciation of the things they go out to explore having started the retreat. Tim: Well, a huge thing that happens when these events happen is you meet and make lovely connections with beautiful people because by definition, really some amazing people come. And they are very precious. People make friends, lifelong friends, partners often actually. Its like Melanie: Its a relationship thing. Tim: Yeah, its a moving experience. And so, this gives people a chance on the longer one. The short one or the weekend is very intense, very beautiful. Poof! Its going to happen. It is like were going. And over the 518 http://www.wiredforsuccess.tv

day, there will be a chance for people to go, Right, OK. Lets hey, do you fancy going up the tour together? And off they can go in groups. Beryl: And for those people, our viewers who dont know the UK, Glastonbury is probably the most spiritual city, town, I would say in the UK. Tim: I think so. I think we can say that. Its a quirky, colorful little place. Beryl: Yeah. Tim: Its kind of crazy but its very its gone a little hot and its a sort of its just one street at the center with shops on and you can buy every sort of book and crystal and yoga mat but dont expect to buy socks or all sorts of pants because you are not going to get them. So its that sort of place. And its an ancient center. It had the biggest abbey in the whole of Europe here but now in ruins because its pulled down, which we overlooked at the abbey house where we have the retreat which in the abbey ruins. It has the ancient tour which was the Isle of Avalon in King Arthurs myths which it was an ancient pagan center. So people have been doing this stuff in Glastonbury for a very long time. Melanie: Well, this is very wonderful to know, Tim. Is there any final word, any final message youd like to give to viewers bearing in mind that we couldnt say everything? Tim: Well, I would return to the beginning really and just going, look, were in this mystery together so remember that we dont know what it is because when we find that place, we find that place of deep down knowing, were all equal. Were all equal in the mystery. And thats where we can meet with humility and love and then we can really listen to each other and go, what have you found? Oh really? This is what I found. And we can share in that spirit and we can love each other. And then we can encourage each other like youve encouraged me and I want to encourage you in the contribution that you are making. And thats when we can see each other, feel, and see and then endorse and affirm each other and see each others greatness as you so beautifully put it. Melanie: Thats very lovely. Thank you. Thank you. Is there anything you want to add, Beryl before we wrap up this episode?
