Jessica Raybe English 10 Honors Aug.

7, 2011 A Student with Multiple Talents The fifty-meter butterfly race begins, and suddenly she realizes she has missed her own race. As she quickly looks at the pool, she sees the other girls halfway down their lanes. She jumps into the pool and is off to the race. She swims as fast as she can, and in between her stroke, as she turns her head for a breath, she sees that she is tied with all of the other girls in the race. She keeps going, and as she is nearing the finish line, she gains distance upon her opponents and ends up winning the entire race. Cassie, only a sophomore in high school and an amazing swimmer, might be the next Michael Phelps. If you ever want to learn how to swim, you might benefit yourself by asking Cassie Adams. This smart and athletic fourteen-year-old girl at Lodi High has great dedication to the sports she loves and will no doubt go far in life. She has a very bright future ahead of her. Cassie has a very interesting background, ranging from her siblings all the way to her greatgreat-great grandfather. She has two older sisters, Naomi at 24 years old and Natalie at 20. Being the youngest child, Cassie has certain advantages. I get all the stuff my sisters didnt get when they were my age, she said. The family also includes a dog named Marshmallow that is half Chihuahua and half terrier, and a cat named Frisbee that is a Turkish van. Going back in time, Cassies grandmother was living during the Great Depression and her great grandfather was in World War Two and came to the United States from Germany. Driving to Lodi after waking up at 5:30 is what it takes for Cassie to get to school, as she lives in Stockton, unlike most of us. As much as she loves Lodi, she really should have gone to her home school Bear Creek, but she got a transfer so that she could join the Flames because she did

not want to go to the so called bad school. She lives on a street called Estate Street, which is not considered a part of Stockton but is in the county. She lives in a one story house that was built by her father, and here she spends some of her free time. She is musically inclined and is very talented with multiple different instruments. She plays the piano and is just learning how to play the guitar, but she is best when she is playing the flute. Another one of the activities that she enjoys is going on the computer. She likes to go on the Internet and play games that fit her interests. Never really traveling often, Cassie enjoys her yearly trip to Washington to visit her grandpa. She recently went to Missouri and was kind enough to work at Camp Barnabas, where she worked with special needs kids. Cassie Adams has many plans for the future besides going to college at a place like Chico State to become a Speech/Language Pathologist. After five years of constant swimming, her abilities have allowed her to be on a year-round team, summer team, and the Flames varsity team. This summer I swam at the city meet and got first in all of the events, said Cassie. She has done very good for our high school team and has led them to many victories. When I was on the high school team, I made finals in the division of sections, she said. Cassie is a great swimmer and she will continue her hard work by practicing every day for at least two hours. No matter what this brilliant young lady decides to do with her future, everybody knows that she is headed for amazing things. Whether it is a musician with multiple talents or a swimmer winning medals, she has such a bright future and can do whatever she wants as long as she puts her mind to it. Maybe one day we all will be seeing her on the T.V. for the United States Olympics team.
