Profile:
I bring a lifetime of experience in managing successful businesses gained in my career in the agricultural, farming commercial, property and forestry sectors in New Zealand and Australia. The past twenty years have been spent in the property sector in New Zealand at CEO level and this has included founding, developing and owning a leading edge property consultancy for eighteen years. Following the sale of this business in 2000 to a public company have focused on change management consultancy for a variety of business sectors. I remain a subject matter expert in the property arena, able to offer a unique mix of skills which include corporate governance, leadership, commercial acumen and an unparalleled breadth of knowledge of the property sector in New Zealand. I retain a special interest in private sector companies or public sector groups that are involved in construction, property and marketing. I have a strong background as a CEO and as a business consultant and am a skilled marketer with an excellent grasp of successfully growing markets and businesses. I relish the opportunity to work with Boards and senior management to reposition and re-engineer businesses. A very practical approach, coupled with a real ability to manage relationships and people, has been at the core of my personal success. In recent years my consultancy activities have morphed into business advisory services. Stratus is a small company that works to provide in house assistance for a wide range of entities. I use this vehicle to consult to companies or entities that are moving in new directions, wanting to create new markets or re-engineer their business. I work at a senior level and assist with the thinking and implementation processes. Accountability: Currently I am working with a major tertiary institution. I have assisted them in working through a re-development plan, the future establishment of a specialist endowment trust that will assist in funding growth in a stable manner in the future. property holding into synergistic private sector commercial enterprises in leased premises Another current task is to work with three of NZs major multidisciplinary consultancy firms. The Property company is eighteen months old and manages a property portfolio of $850,000,000.The task of the company is to manage excess property owned by Council, add value then divest .It is also responsible for accumulating strategic property for urban renewal and facilitating regeneration of retail/commercial nodes , accumulating key land for future transport corridors Accountability My task as an independent director is to ensure the staff add value to property, make sensible and viable strategic decisions and to be the Boards property expert. Achievements As a Board member you rarely have the opportunity to make real impact on day to day management. In this case there have been several key developments which we inherited as legacy projects from previous Councils. These were the Ormiston Retail centre, Old Papatoetoe Urban renewal and the Yard 37 Super Yacht precinct at Hobsonville. All these projects were stalemated and I was tasked with other Board members to work with the management team to successfully unlock these projects

The trust is seven years old and is mandated by the Rodney District Council to promote and encourage the development of tourism, industry and commerce in Rodney, one of New Zealands fastest growing regions. Accountability: My task as Chairman, appointed by the Council, was to significantly change the Direction of the trust from its focus on the impediments of the Resource management process to a broad based organisation that worked with sectors identified as winners and assist them with growth. Achievements: We have had significant success under my Chairmanship in developing an Aquaculture cluster which Government has identified as being a market leader. We have also developed food and beverage and equestrian clusters, innovation hubs as well as job creation, business mentoring and business training. Spent two days a week for 18 months repositioning the Archdiocesan Charitable trust. This required an organizational audit, professionalising of the organisation, putting in place donor management programs and hiring and training of new staff. An audit of the distribution processes to donees' was also undertaken. The role also required the design and implementation of a nationwide Catholic charity to be known as ActioNZ Achievements: Took the investment fund from $1.2 to $3 million and set direction. Fund is now around $6 million Re-organised office, fund raising strategies and hired permanent staff Took donor list from 250 to circa 3,000 ALAY BUHAY FOUNDATION, New Zealand and Manila, Philippines

Once again a change management role to reposition a Tindall Foundation financed Micro-finance and Community development trust working among the urban and rural poor in Manila in the Philippines. This required me to spend nearly four months in the Philippines over a two year period.

Both change management roles have been highly praised and well received by the clients. Accountability: Undertake an internal audit Redirect the thrust of the organisation Recruit new staff. These included running training academies, assisting in restructure of real estate operations and managing franchisee relationships. The former operation was then sold to Ray White so the latter did not happen.
