 One out of four adultsan average of 58 million Americans are victims of mental disorders in a certain year. One out of 17 lives with severe mental illness like schizophrenia, depression or bipolar disorder and about one out of 10 children survive with stern mental disorders. About 2.4 million Americans, that results to 1.1 percent of adult population suffer from schizophrenia.

Almost 90 percent of those who suicide have a curable mental disorder. A report from July 2007 indicated that male veterans are twice as likely to die by suicide as compared with others in the general United States population.

 24 percent of state prisoners and 21 percent of local jail prisoners are victims of mental illness. 70 percent of youth in juvenile justice systems have at least one mental disorder and at least 20 percent have experienced functional disorders due to serious mental illness. Over 50 percent of students with a mental disorder drop out of high school making it the highest dropout rate due to any disability.
