ABSTRACT

Library Management system consists of list of records about the management of the details of the students and the issues going on and also about some books and all. This is a window-based application. The project has three modules namely- book details, student detail, and issue details. According to the modules the distributor and sub distributors can manage and do their activities in easy manner. As the modern organizations are automated and computers are working as per the instructions, it becomes essential for the coordination of human begins, commodity and computers in a modern organization. This information helps the distributors to purchase or sale the products very efficiently. The administrators and all the others can use the library with the system through this projects, thus facilitating effective implementation and monitoring of various activities of the distributor of a supermarket.

INTRODUCTION

The project Library Management System is Library management software for monitoring and controlling the transactions in a library .The project Library Management System is developed in .net, which mainly focuses on basic operations in a library like adding new member, new books, and updating new information, searching books and members and facility to borrow and return books. Library Management System is a windows application written for 32-bit Windows operating systems, designed to help users maintain and organize library. Our software is easy to use for both beginners and advanced users. It features a familiar and well thought-out, an attractive user interface, combined with strong searching Insertion and reporting capabilities. The report generation facility of library system helps to get a good idea of which are the books borrowed by the members.

PROJECT:
LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM is a software application to maintain the records related to Book Purchase, Stock Maintenance, Book Search, Catalog, Book Issue, Book Returns, Fine Collection, and all necessary requirements for the Library to manage day to day operations.

OBJECTIVE:
The main objective of the application is to automate the existing system of manually maintain the records of the Book Issue, Book Return from the student, Stock Maintenance, Catalog and Book Search to be computerized. So the Book Issue, Return, Searching will be faster.

SCOPE:
This application can be used by any Library to automate the process of manually maintaining the records related to the subject of maintaining the stock and Book Issues.

PROBLEM DEFINITION
Existing System:
Various problems of physical system are described below : If one is not very careful then there is a possibility of issuing more than one book to a user. There is a possibility of issuing a book to a user, whose membership is not there. When a user requests for the a book, one has to physically check for the presence of a book in the library Answering management query is a time consuming process. Daily keeping a manual record of changes taking place in the library such as book being issued, book being returned etc can become cumbersome if the Library size is bigger.

Proposed System:
The LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM is a software application which avoids more manual hours in taking the book, that need to spend in record keeping and generating reports. Maintaining of user details is complex in manual system in terms of agreements, royalty and activities. This all have to be maintained in ledgers or books. Co-coordinators needs to verify each record for small information also. Easy search of book in the library. Avoid the manual work.

Book Details:
This module entering data about newly purchased books into the books database. The data entered in cludes books author, ISBN no, title, publisher, cost and various other fields provided in the form. The data must be accurate and must be entered in the correct format as indicated in the forms. This will enter a null value for the book whose accession number is entered in the field provided in the respected form. This operation is done when a book is disposed of the library.

To search for a particular book, to know whether it is currently available in library or not. This can be done by entering value in any one or more fields in the form to perform the search such as title or author name.

Student Details:
This module is used to enter new record for a student in students database. This option is chosen when a student is enrolled in the college. This will update the data of student like address, course, etc. by entering students roll number. It is used to clear the record for the particular student whose record needs to be deleted by entering her roll number in the required field. This option is chosen when a student leaves college. This will find out the particular student who possesses the particular book.

Book Issue:
This operation is used for issuing a book to a member of the library. For this operation to be successful the member must meet some criteria like she should not have issued books to her maximum limit previously. All these checks are done by software. If the operation is successful, then the system automatically stores the date of issue and the due date by which the book must be returned.

Student: When a student loans a book, the entry of the book is stored automatically in the students database with the due date of that book. Professor: In case a member of teaching staff loans a book the entry is stored in teachers database with the due date of the book.
