Barangay Accounting System of Barangay Halayhayin, Siniloan, Laguna

I.

Introduction

Barangay Halayhayin is one of the largest barangays of Siniloan, Laguna. It is bounded in the north by Brgy. Mendiola, in the south by brgy. Salubungan, in the west by Romelo river and in the east by Brgy. Macatad, and by the municipality of Pangil, Laguna. It has a population of more 4000 inhabitants. Being one of the largest, it is also one of the barangays of Siniloan which has the biggest budget allocation. Hence, the transactions involving barangay funds have slowly becoming complex because of the increasing number of projects and programs of the barangay. The Accounting system of the barangay therefore, must be aided by computer software to equip the barangay treasurer the tools for a more effective and efficient way of recording transactions involving barangay funds. Accounting is the art of recording, classifying and summarizing in a significant manner and in terms of money, transactions and events which are in part at least of financial character and interpreting the results thereof. It is an information system that measures transactions or activities involving money, processes informationinto reports and communicates the reports to those who needs it. In the case of barangays, the chairman and the councilman who will be using the reports generated by the accounting system in ordere to help them in

their decision making on what preoject and expenditures that can be undertaken by the funds available. The accounting system software will make the production of reports more easier thereby making the submission to higher authority more promptly accomplished. The program if found to be acceptable and user-friendly may be shared to other barangays of Siniloan.

II.

Methodology

The students will seek the approval of the Brgy. Cahirman of Brgy. Halayhayin for the conduct of the project. An interview will be undertaken with the Brgy. Cahirman and the Brgy. Treasurer on the different monetary transcations and the reports to be generated. Once the transaction and the reports to be generated are identified and established, the group will prepare the software that will record the different transcations and that will produce the needed reports. It will be pre-tested and validated through the help of their instructor and their classmates. After it passed the pre-testing stage, it will be put to use in the barangay for the actual test. The reports generated will be validated by the reports generated manually using the manual recording system of the barangay. Once established that it produces the same result, it will be presented to the barangay chairman and treasurer for verification and acceptance.
