Exercise: BEx Query Designer and Analytical Engine

At the conclusion of this exercise you will be able to: Create BEx queries using various key design features of the BEx Query Designer which are new for NetWeaver 2004s BI. 1. In the BW system, start the BEx Query Designer and prepare to create a new query. Start > Programs > Business Explorer > Analyzer

Logon to the system

Choose the following InfoProvider 0D_DX_M01.

Info Area SAP Demo SAP Demo: ITeLO Sales Data SAP Demo: ITeLO Reporting Cube Scenario Or Use Find ( 0D_DX_M01 )

2. On the Filter tab page, create at first a characteristic restriction for the characteristic Distribution Channel. This characteristic restriction will be used as a filter for your query. 3. Restrict the Distribution Channel to provide a meaningful filter. Restrict the characteristic to the values Internet, Fax and Phone.

4. Create default restriction of Region Code ( Customer Dimension ) to the value Central

5. Go to the Rows/Columns tab page to complete your query definition. You will see your restricted Region Code characteristic from the default values area in the Free Characteristics area. Make it available in the start view of your query in the rows. 6. Include the characteristics Product Group and Product in the rows area, but do this using the multi-object support (i.e. drag them both together). Make sure Product Group appears above Product in the rows.

7. Create a restricted key figure that shows the Net Sales for Calendar Year 2006.

8. Now create a formula for the Variance% between Net Sales 2006 and Net Sales 2007.
Create the missing restricted key figure for Net Sales 2007 directly in the formula editor. Name this formula as Variance to 2006, but enter this description from the main query design screen using the properties direct entry field (not in the formula editor dialog box)

9. In the columns area, see the newly created key figure. This will be required only for the formula, so hide this entry.

10. Change the position of the new formula so that it appears below the key figure Net Sales
2006. 11. Change the properties of 2 characteristics at once: For the characteristics Product Group and Product you want to display the result lines only when there is more than one single value.

12. Save your query in the Favorites using the name GR## Bex Query Designer
(GRXX_EX001), Use your Group Number in Place of ##

13. Display the query result in the BEx Analyzer. Check the start view of the query: it should show you only the Region Code Central as defined in the default values area of the query.
