It is all very jolly with bright costumes and amusing songs but really life for Joseph was

not all fun and games by any stretch of the imagination. He went through some seriously bad times; his brothers wanted him dead, he got sold into slavery, he was sexually harassed he was imprisoned for a crime he didnt commit and finally left to rot for many years before he found fulfilment and happiness, and was eventually reunited with his family.

For the next few weeks we are going to look at the different situations Joseph found himself in and use these to pray for the work of the Besom in York.

17-23rd February
Way, way back many centuries ago, not long after the Bible began. Jacob lived in the land of Canaan a fine example of a family man Jacob certainly had many children 12 boys! However, they really did not get on! Joseph, his fathers obvious favourite, made his brothers so jealous and annoyed that they decided to kill him. Eventually thinking this may be a step too far they sold him into slavery in a far off country and told their father he had been killed by an angry goat! Sunday
Please pray for all families in York, whatever their make-up, that God would bind them together in love at the start of this week. Pray for those who find themselves suffering with conflict in their family between brother and sister, parent and child. Pray for Gods peace to surround them. Pray for those recipients who feel less loved or worthless in their family. Pray that the work of the Besom would show them Gods overwhelming love and care.

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday Pray for the Besom Team and all the givers that we would be able to work together well as the family of Christ and be a good model to those we meet. Thursday
Pray for those who have been outcast and left alone that they would know that they are never really alone and God is always with them. Pray for all the families we meet, whether giver or recipient, that have suffered the loss of a loved one pray that theyd have the strength to cope and space to mourn and that through the support of the Besom their load might be lightened a little. Pray for the several decorating projects going on around York today a group from The Belfrey and the G2 students that there would be opportunities to talk & show God's love and it would be a day of transformation for all involved.

Joseph was an unimportant slave who found he liked his master, consequently worked much harder, even with devotion I cant imagine being a slave is ever really great but for a while Joseph liked his work and succeeded. But he was continually harassed by his bosss wife and when caught the blame was firmly placed on him despite doing no wrong. In life often things dont quite work out the way we hope or plan but no matter what God can help and so to Him we turn in prayer.

Sunday

Pray for all those who struggle to find their place in the world that they would have fresh wisdom this week. We all often find ourselves in difficult circumstances. Please pray for perseverance and hope for all those that the Besom meets. Thank God that He make all things work together for our good. Praise Him for every opportunity that has arisen out of hardship; and that despite everything He is always there.

Pray that Christians in York would be inspired to give, no matter what they may be facing, in whatever way they can through the Besom; trusting in God to provide. Pray for Langwith and Halifax College students carrying out decorating projects today. Pray that God's presence will be really evident as they serve Him and their light will shine hope into the homes they decorate.

'Joseph's luck was really out - His spirit and his fortune low. Alone he sat, alone he thought of happy times he used to know' Joseph found himself in a physical prison, dejected. I can hardly imagine what it must be like to face or experience it but there are many times in life when one can feel trapped in a prison of one kind or another whether due to mental or physical issues, circumstances, finances and so forth.
Sunday
Pray for all those who feel trapped with no hope; that through the work of the Besom light will shine into their lives and Gods love will set them free. Pray for all those who face or have experienced prison life for whatever reason. Pray that any whom the Besom meet will find hope through the love they are shown. Pray for all who feel trapped in their home due to their mental health; pray for strength to get through each day and for people to come alongside and support them.

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday Pray for the Besom Core team, trustees and others involved in organising the Besom Conference - that they would have time to carry out all that is needed. Thursday
Pray for those who have physical difficulties that prevent them from getting involved in everything they would like to; that they would have opportunities to find fulfilment. Pray for all those who feel their financial situation limits the life they live that they would find hope in the gifts that the Besom givers pass on - that there is one less thing they need to save to buy themselves. A week to go to the Besom Training Conference held in York. Pray that all the final preparations go smoothly this week and that God is firmly held in the centre as the one in control.

For the famine has caught us unprepared, we are thin, we are ill, we are getting scared! Its enough to make anyone weep and were down to our very last sheep For Joseph things were looking up having successfully interpreted Pharaohs dream he was free from prison and elevated to the second highest position in the land. However, although he ensured Egypt had stored enough in the seven years of plenty there were many place suffering; including Canaan where his father and brothers still lived. Although famine in this case took a physical form there are many ways in which we can be starved in life.
Sunday
Pray for all those suffering for a lack of something; be in physical, emotional, or importantly spiritual that these gaps would be filled by Gods life-giving spirit. Pray for all those recipients the Besom team meet who feel starved of attention; pray that when givers go out on the van they would be able to show them care and the gifts they deliver would be a reminder of this. Pray for all of those who struggle to afford food; give thanks for those who give food hampers through the Besom for the real immediate help this provides.

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday Thank God for all those who give money through the Besom and the real difference it makes to the lives of Besom recipients; whether it buys electricity for a week or a cooker for a lifetime its all vitally important! Thursday
Pray for all those recipients who do hunger for something more of God. Praise Him for all those who have accepted or asked for Bibles and pray that as they read it day by day God will fill their hearts and minds with something more. Pray for the Besom National Training Conference tomorrow that everyone who feels called will be able to attend and that all the last minute details will fall into place! Pray for the Besom National Training Conference held today in York. Pray that it will be a day of fellowship and learning where well get a real experience of God at work in our hearts; encouraging and inspiring all who attend.

Go, Go, Go Joseph! You know what they say! Go, Go, Go, Go Joseph Youll make it someday! It had taken years and years for Josephs full potential to be unleashed but finally his gifts were being used to help the whole of Egypt and the surrounding areas. Not everyone has the gift of dream interpretation but we are all given gifts from God; Thank you to all who use these gifts to serve the poor and suffering around York. Sunday
Pray that as all who attended the Besom Training Conference reflect on what they have heard and learnt they will feel inspired to use the gifts they have been given to serve the poor and suffering in their local area. Pray for those with the gift of strength or communication; that as they help others carrying heavy furniture to just the right spot; they will themselves feel blessed by a God who cares so deeply. Pray for those who are blessed financially and use it to support others; that in sharing with those in need they will feel Gods love pouring out on them.

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday Pray for those with different skills to offer through the Besom; that recipients would be found who would benefit from their help and Gods love shared. Thursday
Pray for those who have items they can pass on to others with love; that they will see Gods hand in the perfect provision in offers to someone else in need. Pray for all those making Easter Hampers that they would feel Gods love surround them as the put them together; and also pour this love out to create something special for a family or individual in need this Easter. Pray for us all that we would have time to listen to God and ask him about the gifts he might want us to share with others for His glory.

And Jacob came to Egypt, no longer feeling old, and Joseph came to meet him in his chariot of gold, OF GOLD! After years of feeling alone, unloved, unwanted, Joseph finally was reunited with his family; and did he choose to punish them for the awful way they had treated him? No he welcomed them with open arms to share in his fortune. He asked Pharaoh for land so they could settle with him in Egypt and for many years they enjoyed prosperity. Sunday
Pray for reconciliation between families, immediate and extended, across York; that love would help mend broken bridges. Praise God that he can turn every hardship into an opportunity; and can make all things work for the good of those who love him. Pray for more people to find their sacrificial heart, which gives even out of the depths of sorrow, and feel Gods blessing in this.

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday Pray that as van drivers go out and meet vulnerable people in this city who may have also felt alone, unloved and unwanted; that in giving the gifts people have donated they will be able to share Gods overwhelming, unconditional love. Thursday
Pray for all keyworkers who work so hard to help support families and individuals in building up their lives; that they would have some rest over this Easter holiday On this Good Friday, let us remember what Jesus has done for us in our lives and thank Him that He does not hold all our past sin against us but instead opened His arms wide and took all the blame on the cross. Wait on Jesus today. Rest, listen, and prepare for His glorious resurrection! After yesterday thinking about all He did for you; today pray about what He might be asking you to do for Him?
