1. INTRODUCTION
1 Pet 1:17-19 17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each ones work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. The blood of Jesus can quite literally save your life. This message is an introduction to the Blood of Jesus and therefore will be a basic comparison to natural blood

2. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF NATURAL BLOOD

Definition of blood

Blood is a vehicle for transporting nutrients, cellular wastes and other substances throughout the body.

1. Exchange through the blood

You breathe in air through your nose which goes into your lungs. A blood cell travels through the lungs until it reaches a very thin membrane which separates the blood from the air moving through the lung. This membrane is so thin that the red blood cell can absorb oxygen from the air through it. At this same time this blood cell is releasing its load of carbon dioxide through the membrane out into the lung to be exhaled. The exchange is the poisonous carbon dioxide for the all important oxygen which is needed for the body.

2. Blood cleanses each cell

To clean means get rid of dirt, rubbish or impurities The blood cleans each cell by removing the poisonous carbon dioxide and other toxins from the cells

3. Life is in the blood Human blood never rests. If the life of the body is to be maintained, the blood has to be kept moving through it at all times. The minute the heart stops pumping blood, death occurs, because unless the blood reaches the cells, they die and when that happens, the entire body dies. When the blood supply fails to feed any area of the body, that area immediately undergoes cell death. The chemical substance that we call blood carries life. If a person loses his blood, he loses his life. This is clearly evident in the case of someone who bleeds to death

4. Nourishment through the blood

When we eat food, the food then gets broken down in our stomachs. The nutrients are absorbed into the blood stream which takes them to every cell in your body, making sure that each cell has its needs met at all times. The plasma of the blood carries the proteins, hormones, vitamins, enzymes and salts throughout the body.

5. Protection through the blood One more very important function of the blood is to provide immunity against infections. The blood carries in its life giving stream many specialized proteins and other substances that provide a protection against infection for all other cells in the body. This is a defensive function that is designed to keep infection from gaining a foothold in any of the tissues or systems of the body. Anywhere the blood goes it carries with it this protective feature.

6. Health is in the blood

Your ability to resist disease depends mainly upon the health of your blood. If your blood isnt healthy, then you will have no lasting health. If your white blood corpuscle is low, then you do not have any resistance whatsoever to a fatal disease. Any time that you have a sickness; it is only through the blood flowing through your veins, that you are able to get well. If you get a cut in your skin, the body begins to heal that cut by placing very complex clotting around the cut to stop the bleeding. There are approximately 12 different clotting agents that help rebuild this wall of flesh to stop the bleeding. The blood rushes to that wound and brings oxygen to the injured cells so they will get strong. It brings food and nutrition to fortify your body against attack. The iron compound in the red blood cells is medically termed "hemoglobin." When this is low, the body becomes weary and fatigued. The blood carries this compound to all parts of the body to bring strength.

3. SPIRITUAL PROPERTIES OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS

1. Exchange through the Blood of Jesus
It is very important to know that had Jesus died any other way apart from the shedding of blood, there would have been no forgiveness of sins. As a result of Jesus death on the cross and the shedding of his blood, a divine exchange took place; we received the air of life and had the toxin of the curse / spiritual death removed. Some of the exchanges which took place are:

1. He was punished so that we might be forgiven - Isaiah 53:5 2. He was wounded so that we might be healed - 1 Peter 2:24 3. He was made sin with our sinfulness so that we might be made righteous with His righteousness - 2
Corinthians 5:21

4. He died our death We might receive his life - James 1:15, 1 Corinthians 15:3 Romans 6:23 5. He endured our poverty; Hunger, Thirst, Nakedness and in Need of everything so that we might share
his abundance - 2 Corinthians 8:9, Deuteronomy 28:48, John 19:28, John 19:23, Luke 23:53

6. He bore our shame so that we might share in His glory - Hebrews 12:2, Hebrews 2:10 7. He endured our rejection so that we might have His acceptance with the Father - Matthew 27:46
Ephesians 1:5-6 9. He was made a curse so that we might enter into the blessing - Galatians 3:13-14 Source: Derek Prince, The Divine Exchange 8.

2. Blood of Jesus cleanses us

I John 1:7

7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. Heb 9:14 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God; cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 1. It cleanses us from all sin

2. It cleanses our conscience from dead works. The emphasis is more on being than on doing. 3. Life is in the Blood of Jesus
Leviticus 17:11 11 'For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.' John 6:53-54 53 Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 "Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

1. Natural life is in natural blood

2. Spiritual life is in the Blood of Jesus

4. Nourishment through the Blood of Jesus

John 6:53-56 53 Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 "Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 "For My flesh is food indeed and My blood is drink indeed. 56 "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. Our natural life is nourished by natural food and drink Our spiritual life is nourished by spiritual food and drink. The Word of God is our spiritual food which nourishes us by providing us with spiritual nutrients by the power of the spirit. The blood of Jesus is our spiritual drink which we take in by faith. In John 6:53-56 Jesus is making it very clear that natural bread and water cannot feed your spirit, only Jesus flesh (Word of God) and his blood (Blood of Jesus) when taken in faith Being nourished by the flesh and blood of Jesus can best be understood when we take communion. The purpose of communion is to partake in the body and blood of Jesus, not just the body. We wish to become nourished by Jesus. The blood of Jesus carries every nutrient we need to be healthy and strong. It is connected to obedience, love, peace, forgiveness and salvation itself. All of these nourish our spirits and make us healthy and strong. As an example, take forgiveness if people were quicker to forgive and not carry the bitterness around with them, half the people in the hospitals would not need to be there. Communion represents this spiritual food and drink

5. Protection through the Blood of Jesus

Exodus 12:13

13 'Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. Exodus 12:23 23 "For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you. Rev 9:11 11 And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon. Looking at the above two verses; we see that there are two different beings that passed through the land. One who protects; the other who destroys The Destroyer appears again in Revelation 9:11. Abaddon means destroying angel. Apollyon means destroyer. The Hebrew word for Passover is Pesach and one of its meanings is to ward off a blow The Lord guards over the blood-sprinkled door and does not permit the destroyer to come in the house to smite the oldest child. The Lord was the Being who protected the firstborn of (Hebrew) man and beast. The other being is the destroying angel from Rev 9:11 who would seek to take the life of the Israelites. The devil could not touch that which was covered by the blood. The blood sheltered the firstborn from certain death. Covered by the blood, protection was guaranteed. The same is true today. Our testimony of the blood overcomes the devil! Rev 12:11 11 "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

6. Health is in the Blood of Jesus

1 Pet 2:24 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-- by whose stripes you were healed.

The blood of Jesus spiritually does the same for the body of Christ as natural blood does for the natural body. When sickness tries to invade, by speaking what Jesus did on the Cross will bring the needed healing because of the provision provided by the blood of Jesus

4. OUR BLOOD LINE Acts 17:26 26 "And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, Gen 2:7 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Everyone derives their blood line from one common source: Adam When Adam was first created, he had no life. He was merely dust formed into a body, just an inert object until God breathed life into him. The breath of life (Ruach) inflated his lungs and charged his

blood with the very life and nature of God. His heart began to pick up the heavenly divine breath from God; it went right into his blood and was pumped into all parts of his body. In a matter of seconds Adam became alive, alive with Gods life! Adam became a living soul; the life is in the blood. Adam then sinned and his blood became polluted, there was sin in his blood. Sin was passed on to the whole human race, even to those who had not sinned in the same way as Adam. The whole human race was, and is polluted with sin. The virgin birth is significant because there was no way the foetus in Marys womb could have had a drop of human blood if she had not known a man. The human foetus develops its own blood, but blood does not develop unless there is fertilisation from a male. The mother does not give her blood to the baby. In reality, Mary had no blood to give Jesus.

When a baby begins to grow in the womb, it is separated from the mother by the placenta. The mothers blood comes to the placenta, but stops there. Through the process of osmosis, the necessary nutrients and oxygen go into the babys bloodstream. But the blood itself does not go past the placenta. It circulates back into the mothers body. Larry Huggins How did God deal with this with regard to Jesus? Heb 10:5 5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me. Luke 1:31 31 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. God prepared a body for Jesus which was conceived in the womb of Mary. The life of that body came down from heaven. The life is in the blood and Jesus blood had to come from heaven. If Adams blood had been coursing through Jesus veins, He would have known sin, but Jesus never knew sin. Jesus blood had the life of God in it. He willingly submitted his body to be scourged and the blood came out, the life of God poured out from His body and went into the dust. A full cycle has taken place. God had taken Adam and formed him out of the dust of the ground and breathed life into him. Now that life is back in this earth. It is available to all who believe.

5. SHEDDING OF BLOOD FOR REMISSION OF SINS Under the Old Testament law, the penalty for mens sins (that were not punishable by death) was the sacrifice of an animals life. The shedding of blood was required to atone for their sin. Why was such a terrible thing required by God. When one must kill an innocent animal because of his sin, it illustrates the awfulness of sin. God wanted man to understand that when he sinned, it meant death for something or someone. The Lord wanted us to realize that the penalty of sin would cause a life to be taken. When people had to take a little dove and bring it to be slain upon an altar as an offering for their sins, the impact of sin became real to them. Sin always requires a sacrifice.

Importance of Shedding of Blood

1. By the shedding of blood death was certain. When the blood was drained from the animal, the life
left it. There could be no mistake; there could be no remedy. If you have seen the Passion of the Christ you will see that Jesus shed an enormous amount of blood.

2. By the shedding of blood the death was untimely and violent. This was not an ordinary death; it was
an early death, when the animal was in its prime. And it was not a natural death; the life was taken from it. Jesus was in the prime of his life when he was killed at the age of 33 years.

3. By the shedding of blood the death was visible. It was not secretive or private--not with the dashing
of the blood against the altar. It was a public display, a declaration that atonement was made by the shedding of blood. Some of the blood would be sprinkled in the holy of holies, some daubed on the horns of the altar, and some poured out, depending on the ritual. But the important point to remember is that the blood was to be a visible sign. There had to be a sign of the atonement, and that was blood, because a life had been taken, and the life of the flesh is the blood. All the eye witnesses around the cross could see that Jesus was dead Remission means a wiping out as though it had never been. The sinner receiver remission of sins establishes relationship with God The believer receives forgiveness of sins breaks fellowship with God but not relationship.

6. PLEADING THE BLOOD OF JESUS Ps 35:1 1 Plead my cause, O LORD, with those who strive with me; fight against those who fight against me. Prov 31:9 9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy. Plead means To appeal earnestly, to put forward a plea of a specific nature in a court of law. Websters Dictionary When you plead the blood of Jesus, you are exercising your legal rights. You are setting forth your case that Jesus has shed His blood and died for you. Satan has no right to rule you, accuse you, condemn you or do anything else to you or to anything that belongs to you. Revelation 12:11 11 "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Each time you say I plead the blood in prayer, you are actually saying, I recognise and appropriate the power represented in the blood and I remind the enemy of his defeat because of that blood The blood of Jesus is the weapon we use against the accusations of the enemy. Pleading the blood is the manner in which we wield the weapon.

Psalm 107:2 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, We must say that we are redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb. Following are some statements which others have successfully used. In the Name of Jesus: I plead the Blood of Jesus for my healing. I apply the Blood of Jesus to this sickness. I sprinkle the Blood of Jesus on me.

I resist you evil with the Blood of the Lamb. I draw a Blood line around this place that the devil cannot cross. I draw a Blood line of protection around my property and possessions. I plead the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ against this problem. I cover my home with the Blood of Jesus to protect all occupants and possessions from all evil. I apply the Blood of Jesus to this problem and bind its power to remain. There is power in Jesus' Blood to set everything right, Satan. Jesus' Blood works now to remove every evil work. I hold the Blood of Jesus against you Satan, and declare on God's Word that it overcomes you, and that you flee. I will continue to believe and to repeat what I said until every trace of this trouble is gone. 7. CONCLUSION Ezek 16:6 6 "And when I passed by you and saw you struggling in your own blood, I said to you in your blood, 'Live!' Yes, I said to you in your blood, 'Live!' Ezekiel 16:6 is specifically for those with blood disorders. A Prayer for yourself Father I come to you in Jesus name, and I put the blood of Jesus on my life and all that belongs to me, on all that over which You have made me a steward. I put the blood of Jesus on my mind, my body, my emotions and my will. I believe I am protected by that blood. Joyce Meyer
