Grammar and structure

Demonstrative adjectives and pronouns aquele, aquela, aqueles, aquelas (that one, those ones). Singular Plural Masculine aquele aqueles Singular Plural Feminine aquela aquelas

The words aquele, aqueles, aquela, aquelas indicate someone/something away from both you and the person/people you are talking about or someone/something already mentioned or on the speakers mind. They are used both as adjectives and pronouns. When used as adjectives, they are placed before the noun, and their form depends on the gender and number of the noun they precede. As pronouns, they agree in gender and number with the nouns they stand for.

For example:
Quem aquele (adj.) rapaz? Este lpis meu, mas aquele (pron.) ali teu. Quem so aquelas (adj.) pessoas? Estas calas so minhas, mas aquelas (pron.) ali so tuas. De quem aquele (adj.) livro? De quem aquela (adj.) casa)? Whos that boy? This pencil is mine, but that one there is yours. Who are those people? These trousers are mine, but those there are yours. Whose book is that? Whose house is that?

Note:

The word ali (there, over there) usually goes together with aquele, aqueles, aquela, aquelas to emphasize distance from both the speaker and the person/people/thing you are talking about or which is on your mind. The interrogative quem is used for people only. Examples: Quem ele? Quem so eles? Quem aquele homem? Quem so aquelas mulheres? Who is he? Who are they? Who is that man? Who are those women?

1. To give an adjectival function to a noun or verb, that is, to add meaning to the noun or verb:

de combined with the article o, os (de + o/s = do/s) or a , as (de + a/s = da/s) translates
