Sphere
Use this command to create basic spherical solid bodies. Spheres are associative to their positioning objects.

You can use one of two methods (types) to create a sphere. Where do I find it? Toolbar FeatureDesign Feature Drop-downSphere Menu InsertDesign FeatureSphere Prerequisite Available with the Advanced with full menus and Essentials with full menus roles.

[NX8-HELP] DESIGN FEATURE

Create a sphere using a center point and a diameter

1. Choose InsertDesign FeatureSphere. 2. In the Type group, select Center Point and Diameter from the Type list. 3. Select an object to infer a center point for the sphere or create a center point using the Specify Point options in the Center Point group.

4. In the Dimension group, in the Diameter box, type a value for the diameter of the sphere. 5. (Optional) If the sphere intersects another solid, select a Boolean option from the Boolean list. Select Body becomes available to let you specify a target for the Boolean operation.

6. Click OK or Apply to create the sphere.

7. Sphere created using the Subtract Boolean

Create a sphere by selecting an arc

1. Choose InsertDesign FeatureSphere. 2. In the Type group, select Arc from the Type list. Select Arc is active in the Arc group.

3. Select an arc for the sphere. The arc can be a curve or an edge.

4. (Optional) If the sphere intersects another solid, select a Boolean option from the Boolean list. Select Body becomes available to let you specify a target for the Boolean operation.

5. Click OK or Apply to create the sphere.

Sphere options
Type Center Point and Diameter Creates a sphere using a specified center point and a diameter. Creates a sphere using a selected arc. Arc The arc does not have to be a complete circle. The software creates a complete sphere based on any arc object. The selected arc defines the sphere's center and diameter. Center Point Appears only when Type is set to Arc and Height. Lets you define an origination (center) point for the sphere. Snap Point options are available to define the point. Inferred Point A point type. Click to see the point type list. Select a point type from the list and then select objects supported by that type. Point Constructor Displays the Point dialog box. Click this if you need to define points. See the Point Constructor in the Getting Started help for details on point types. Arc Lets you select an arc or circle. The software derives the orientation of the sphere from the selected arc. The axis of the sphere is normal to the plane of the arc and passes through the arc center. A vector indicates this orientation. Select Arc Note The arc you select does not have to be a complete circle. The software creates a sphere based on any arc objects. Dimension Appears when Type is set to Center Point and Diameter. Diameter Specifies the diameter of the cylinder. Boolean Specifies the Boolean operation. None Unite Creates a new sphere that is independent of any existing solid body. Combines the volume of the new sphere with an intersecting target body. drive24ward (meslab.org/mes)

[NX8-HELP] DESIGN FEATURE

Subtract Subtracts the volume of the new sphere from an intersecting target body. Intersect Creates the new sphere from the volume shared by it and an intersecting target body. Note

If there is no solid in the part, only the None option is available. If one solid exists in the part, all options are available. If you choose an option other than None, the lone solid is automatically selected. If more than one solid exists in the part, all options are available. If you choose an option other than None, you must select a target solid before OK or Apply become available.

Appears when the Boolean option is set to Unite, Subtract, or Intersect. Select Body Settings Appears when Type is set to Center Point and Diameter. Associative Center Point Enables associativity of the sphere center point with the positioning geometry. Clearing the check box during an edit removes the associativity. To make the center point associative again you must redefine it with this option selected. Preview Lets you select a target body.

Show Result

Show Result computes the feature and displays the result. When you click OK or Apply to create the feature, the software reuses the computation, making the creation process faster. Undo Result exits the result display and returns you to the dialog box.
