Motivation for Curriculum: Many of students frequently have a negative view of poetry which does not serve them well on high stakes tests such as the PSSA and the SATs (College Board). With the Robot Diaries as the culminating activity for this a poetry unit which is larger in scope than these instructions denote, the students have something exciting to anticipate. While supporting the Language Arts skills related to poetry analysis, the Robot Diaries will provide the students with an opportunity to be more than a consumer of technology.
5. Calendar thoughts: With the PSSAs in March, February is an ideal time for the figurative language and poetry unit.
