WhenapumpoperatestoofaroffBEP,forcesinsidethepumpbecomeimbalanced,whichcan causepartstodeflectandwearexcessively.OperatingtotherightofBEP,aconditionknownas runout,meansthattheflowrateishigherthanthepumpwasdesignedtomaintain.Thehighflow increasestheexitvelocityoffluidleavingthepump,whichinturncreatesalowpressureareainside thepump.OperatingtotheleftofBEPoccurswhenthedischargeflowisrestricted,causingfluidtore circulatewithinthepumpalsocreatingalowpressureareawhichcanleadtoincreasedradialloading andlowflowcavitation. Pumpmonitoringandmaintenance Intheidealworld,allpumpswouldbeproperlysizedtorunconstantlyattheirbestefficiency points.Intherealworldofanindustrialplant,thisisimpracticalbecauseprocessesarefluidboth literallyandfiguratively. Anaccuratepowermeasurement,incombinationwithsuctionanddischargepressurereadings, canbeapowerfultoolinassessingpumpperformance.Whilecurrenttransducersofferthemostbasic andcosteffectivepowermonitoringsolution,applytheirreadingscautiously.Motorampsarenot directlyproportiontoload.Factorssuchasinputvoltage,powerfactorandmotorefficiencyshouldbe consideredtoaccuratelydeterminetheactualshafthorsepowerbeingtransmittedtothepump.
