Performance
Shock-absorption
A shock-absorbing floor minimises the
risk of injuries. Test results display the
percentage of shock energy absorbed by
the floor when e.g. landing after a jump.
Vertical deformation
The floor’s ability to absorb shock de-
pends on its ability to flex when exposed
to a dynamic load. The test results
display the floor’s vertical deformation in
mm when exposed to a dynamic impact
equivalent to that of light jogging.
Ball-bounce
Correct ball-bounce increases the ball-
control and the speed of the game. The
test results display the rebound achieved
by the floor as a percentage of the re-
bound measured on a concrete floor.
Friction
Correct friction is important when e.g.
ball-players move rapidly on the floor,
and the ideal friction coefficient should
be between 0.4 and 0.6. A friction coef-
ficient less than 0.4 makes the floor too
smooth, while coefficients above 0.6
make the floor too rough.
Rolling load
The floor’s ability to withstand rolling
loads is important in circumstances
where carts and the like will be utilised.
The test results display whether or not
the floor can withstand a rolling load of
1,5 kN (≈ 150 kg).
Choosing a solid hardwood Junckers Sports floor is
c­ hoosing top performance and the pleasure of playing.
Shock-absorbing qualities, ball-bounce, resilience and
­friction are the key factors which determine the per­
formance. If the floor is too soft, the ball rebound will be
too slow. If it is too hard, however, players and athletes
using the floor will be exposed to an increased risk of injury
due to fatigue. A large quantity of all sports injuries relate
to poor flooring. The key properties are measured by inter-
national standards, which set the rules for the performance
of sports floors.
Junckers sets – and follows the standards
With the new EN 14904 standard the European Commit-
tee for Standardization has harmonised a number of the
most important and relevant demands from recognised
­European standards; e.g. BS and DIN. Junckers High
Performance sports floors conform to DIN 18032, Part 2
­standards and also to the new EN standards. All Junckers
sports floors conform to the standards of BS 7044, Part 4.
Due to our extensive know-how and knowledge, Junckers
is represented in the European Committee for Standardiza-
tion in connection with the development and establishment
of a set of European standards.
Fatigue tests
Junckers has chosen to integrate a fatigue test in the
­developing of new sports constructions, and this test is
­carried out according to the ENV tests.
The floor is exposed to a series of controlled, dynamic point
impacts of 3 kN (≈ 300 kg) no less than 100,000 times,
which efficiently simulates the equivalent of 25 years of
normal use.
High strength
The demands to the floor’s ability to withstand rolling loads
are stepped up with the increased, diverse use of sports
floors for exhibitions and fairs, concerts, and major sports
events where e.g. bleacher seating is moved across the
floors. Here the demands of the DIN standards simply are
not sufficiently extensive. Therefore, Junckers Sports Floors
undergo rigorous tests in order to ensure durable and
­versatile floors, both for now and for the future.
Why wood?
A solid hardwood Junckers sports floor offers area ­elasticity
as opposed to the point elasticity, which is an ­inherent
characteristic of PU, PVC, and linoleum floors. Area
­elasticity allows for optimum freedom of movement while
point elasticity impedes rapid movement and to some
­extent locks the feet to the floor. Junckers is one of the
floors of choice among athletes.

 Junckers floors – made for sports
A heavy, solid hardwood board manufactured from two
rows of staves with a thickness of 22 mm comprises the
basis of any Junckers sports floor. The wood has been
carefully selected and has undergone thorough quality
control, thus ensuring that only the best wood is being
used for sports floors. The beech boards then undergo a
carefully balanced press-drying process, which increases
the strength and stability of the wood and gives an out-
standing rigidity. A solid hardwood floor also rules out the
risk of delamination.

The boards are 3.7 metres in length (each board covers

A healthy indoor climate

A Junckers sports floor contributes to a healthy indoor
climate without static electricity. The Junckers solid hard-
wood floors have been certified according to the Danish
Indoor Climate Certification Rules from the Danish Insti-
tute of Technology. The floors from Junckers are also the
only solid hardwood floors to conform to the strict specifi-
cations of the British Allergy Foundation – Allergy UK.

More than a floor: A total solution
A sports floor and its performance are the results of a sys-
tem comprising three interacting elements: The undercar-
riage construction, the solid hardwood floor, and the sur-
face treatment. These factors determine the here-and-now
characteristics of the floor. However, in order to ensure
optimum life span and performance, periodical checks,
maintenance, additional surface treatment, and sand-
ing may be required. Junckers offers a complete solution
which comprises all of our expertise in the design, working
closely with installation companies, and giving advice on
the periodical control, and the required maintenance.
From basketball to dancing
Junckers offers five advanced sports floor systems which
cover the full spectrum from Standard Performance to
High Performance. Standard Performance is particularly

suited for dance studios, aerobics, and health studios,
while High Performance floors meet the demands and the
high impact from the giants in sports events such as the
NBA basketball tournament.
No matter whether you choose Standard Performance
or High Performance, Junckers is by far the most flexible
solution when the floor must accommodate a number of
different uses and users. Junckers floors stand up to any
event from heavy metal concerts to building exhibitions
and fairs of any kind.
High Performance
The High Performance floors are installed over an under-
carriage system of battens and shock absorbers; e.g. the
patented J-Locks utilised in DuoBAT 110+ and UnoBAT 62+,
or the patented elastic rubber pads used in UnoBAT 50.
Standard Performance
The Standard Performance floors are floating, i.e. they are
installed over existing floors, which means that the per-
formance of the Junckers floor depends very much on the
underlying floor. Standard Performance floors are installed
over a 5 or 10 mm resilient foam underlay.
A Junckers sports floor is a complete solution
This makes the choice much easier and at the same time it
provides a solution where everything has been taken into
consideration. The solutions have been thoroughly tested,
not only at the Junckers factories, but also in sports halls
and stadia all over the world. This is your guarantee for a
completely carefree and problem-free operation.
The technical advisors at Junckers are at your disposal,
providing advice and expertise when special considera-
tions need to be taken into account, or whenever solutions
beyond the ordinary are required.
Sports floors with underfloor heating
Junckers floors were tested with underfloor heating long
before underfloor heating became common, and floors
with underfloor heating are now installed in thousands of
offices and houses. Floors with underfloor heating are also
the obvious choice in sports halls, and multi-purpose halls
which can be used for a range of purposes even during
the winter period. A number of factors must be taken into
consideration, and the solution must be adapted to suit
e.g. the size and the insulation of the hall.

Choosing the right floor
When choosing a sports floor it is important to think
ahead and avoid compromising your expectations. Most
savings on the floor will eventually be visible – on the floor.
This is where play and performance will take place, and
here you depend on the players. Have them approve the
floor, and success will inevitably follow.
Pay attention to usage and geometry
Before deciding, you must determine the possible ­future
uses of the floor. If you require a stationary solution
capable of handling anything from professional sports to
various other events, you’ll want the High Performance
systems.
Other factors that may affect your choice of floor system
are the total height of the floor system and the evenness
of the sub-floor. Junckers sports floors are available in
standard installation heights from 27 mm upwards, and all
systems can be installed over a level and even sub-floor. If
you require installation over an uneven sub-floor, various
packing systems are available to ensure a level sports floor.

The cheaper solution may not be the
cheapest in the long term
Many solutions may appear cheap on a short-term basis,
but when it comes to sports floors, the perspective will
have to be stretched beyond the first few years. When you
do that, even the most expensive solution may turn out
to be cheap in the long run, and vice versa. Given proper
care and attention, a Junckers sport floor will easily have
a life span of more than 25 years while requiring only a
minimum of maintenance. Over the same period both PU
and PVC floors will require substantially more maintenance,
thus adding considerably to the total cost of the floor solu-
tion. A Junckers solid hardwood sports floor also offers
the option of sanding and repair, restoring the floor to its
original condition.

The DuoBAT 110+ system is particularly suited for multi-sports halls

The UnoBAT 62+ system is a high performance system particularly

Junckers UnoBAT 50
The UnoBAT 50 system is a fully sprung batten system, which is
particularly suited for multi-sports halls, providing all the necessary
characteristics for rapid moving ball games. The laminated battens
feature a specially developed rubber material with differentiated
hardness on the underside. One hard inner strip and two soft outer
rubber strips combine to provide a two-step shock-absorbing effect
with built-in deformation limitation. The result is optimum shock-
­absorption and ball-bounce across the entire surface of the floor.

Junckers Clip System

The Junckers Clip system provides medium shock-­absorption
and elasticity and is perfectly suited for minor renovation
projects which traditionally require low installation height
when the floor system is installed over an existing sports floor.
The clip system is a floating floor which is easy to install.
Simply roll out the foam underlay and join together the floor-
boards using Junckers’ unique Clip System.
The construction height is either 27 mm when the floor is
installed over a sprung sports floor, or 32 mm when installed
over a concrete sub-floor or a hard sports floor. This is due to

Junckers Portable System

The Junckers Portable System provides optimum flexibility
for stadia and sports halls hosting a variety of activities. Also
when special line markings are required, e.g. for TV transmis-
sions, the Junckers Portable System is the perfect solution.
The floor is quickly and easily installed. An intermediate layer is
required both in order to protect existing floors and to provide
shock absorption and resilience. When the intermediate layer
is in place, the floor system is installed, and the elements are
held in place by simple metal fittings. The installation height
of the Junckers Portable System is either 27 or 32 mm, depen-
ding on the sub-floor.

 Lining up before the game

If required, Junckers can provide line marking paints as a part of

the total floor solution. Junckers offer two different types of paint
systems for line marking and sealing. One is a water-based solution;
Junckers Strong Line Paint and Junckers HP Commercial. The other
is a solvent based solution; Junckers Isolak Line Paint and Junckers
Isolak; a two-component Polyurethane lacquer. Both types of paint
are available in a range of standard colours, which comprises white,
yellow, red, blue, green, and black. Both types of paint should be
sealed to maximise the life span of the lines.

Skirtings
To ensure a long and healthy life for sports floors installed over bat-
tens, ventilated skirtings are necessary to provide ventilation for the
sub-construction. Under normal circumstances natural ventilation
will suffice when a moisture barrier is established. Natural ventila-
tion is defined as the air flow caused by floor vibrations when the
floor is being used. The moisture barrier should be a PE membrane
with a thickness of min. 0.20 mm, and the barrier should be laid
with an overlap of min. 200 mm at all joints. All joints must be
sealed with tape.

Junckers Sports Skirtings are designed to accommodate the natural

movements of the floor all year round, and the skirtings are avail-
able in wood types to match the floors, thus catering for an elegant
overall impression of the complete floor solution.

Bushings
To ensure optimum flexibility and versatility Junckers provides a
wide range of bushings, which allow rapid and efficient changes
from e.g. handball to badminton or volleyball. The bushings are
available in a range of wood types, which match the floors and
skirtings.

Junckers care for the floor

All Junckers floor solutions are supplied with detailed direc-
tions for daily care and maintenance. Junckers also provides
an extensive range of cleaning and care products, from
Junckers Sylva Cleaner to Junckers Sylva Dissolver H2O.

Simple and easy daily care

A Junckers floor is very resistant to dirt and dust, and the
range of care and maintenance products from Junckers
make daily care both simple and easy. Sweeping or vacu-
uming will suffice under normal circumstances, and wiping
the floor with a well wrung out floor cloth on a regular
basis will easily remove stains and dirt. Resin residue may
be removed with Junckers Sylva Dissolver H2O.

New floor – yet again

Natural materials such as wood tend to age well, but even
the best floors may dull and start to wear with time. How-
ever, Junckers floors can be sanded over and over again,
and after sanding, sealing, and line marking, the floor is
yet again ready for years of exciting sports events.

Keep an eye on the floor

Checking the floor on a regular basis often proves to be
wise, and Junckers offers periodical visits where we check
and test the overall condition of your floor. These visits
make it easy for you to keep your floor in perfect condi-
tion for years to come.
