Relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and RA. Inhibits
prostaglandin synthesis, probably by inhibiting the enzyme
cyclooxygenase. Decreased pain and inflammation associated with
osteoarthritis, also decreases fever.
Contraindications/warnings/interactions
Hypersensitivity, concurrent use of aspirin. Use cautiously in pt
over 65, concurrent ACE inhibitor therapy. Increased risk of
bleeding.
Common side effects
GI Bleeding, exfoliative dermatitis, stevens-johnson syndrome.
Toxic epidermal necrolysis

Interactions with other patient drugs, OTC or herbal medicines (ask
patient specifically)
ACE inhibiters, such as Lisinopril
Nursing Process- Assessment
(Pre-administration assessment)
Pain and ROM, Pt who have asthma, assess for rhinitis,
asthma, and uritcaria.
Lab value alterations caused by medicine
Eval BUN serum creatinine, CBC, and liver function periodically.
Be sure to teach the patient the following about this medication
Take with full glass of water and remain in an upright position for
15-30 min. No double doses. Avoid concurrent ose of alcohol,
aspirin, Tylenol or other OTC meds without consulting health care
professional. Call Dr. if rash, itching, visual disturbances, wt. Gain,
edema, black stools or hepatotoxicity(nausea, fatigue, lethargy,
jaundice, upper right quadrant tenderness, flu-like symptoms)
occur.
