Property owner said this nest is in
same tree that had a nest five years
ago, but the eagles abandoned it two
years ago. During that two years a pair
of BE had a nest in sycamore tree in
the same area (Nest # 1), but that tree
washed downstream in spring 2007.
This is a new nest in the “old” tree

Time: Bald eagle Sandy Hevener, Carol East side VA 654 north of McDowell Farmer reported adult BE on ground in
Adult (small, male?) Bandy, Larry Bandy, two 2.8 miles near Bullpasture River same spot for two days appeared
local farmers injured, couldn’t fly but a short
distance. The farmer took it a
groundhog which it didn’t approach at
first, but later ate vigorously. The
rescue group formed a wide circle
around it on both sides of river and
slowly moved toward it. It flew from the
east to west side of river, but landed
on a small island when seeing a
person on the west bank. It attempted
to fly, landed in river and floated. Carol
jumped into the river with a blanket
and threw it over the bird.
